Description
A soundtrack for One Summer Night, an imaginary 32-bit isometric graphic adventure game (think Disco Elysium on PS1, with tank controls) about Marty, a woman returning to her home town - a formerly thriving harbor town that rests in the shadow of a long abandoned industrial complex. As she investigates a series of recent missing children reports on behalf a family friend, she discovers the dark secrets hidden in the town's past.
This was all sequenced with a Arturia Keystep Pro and Beatstep Pro, and performed live via eurorack synthesizers... Recorded with OBS and polished with Audacity.
#1. Onward (I Guess) [Intro - The Ferry]
Marty begrudgingly agrees to take the case, and she travels to her hometown, eventually arriving at the docks via ferry.
#2. What Remains (After They Left) [Near the Docks - Factory]

#3. For Work, I Sware [Roger's House - Pause Menu]
In search of additional information, Marty awkwardly visits the home of an old friend from her childhood.

After receiving a tip from Roger, Marty walks through town on her way to community's only school. It's the middle of summer, so the building sits empty, Marty finds an unlocked door and slips inside.

As Marty rummages through the principal's filing cabinet, she realizes that she isn't alone in the building.
#6. What's this Button Do? [Big Reveal - Full plot discovered]

#7. No Reason to Stay [Story Conclusion - Main Theme - End Credits]
Marty leaves the town via ferry, fading into the end credits.

this mustve so fun to make doing it all live! I've actually been trying to dive into the world of analog synthesis. I'd love to chat with you sometime about them!! i recently got a moog mavis and its always so fun making all these unique sounds and loops from them!
although this has been said by other i think i have to bring it up, being one of the main flaws i had with your project. the volume was wayy to quiet. even just boosting the output by like 10-15db wouldve made the listening experience far better. a few track couldve used some additional post-processing as well like some eqs. i found some high end sections a little jarring, but that may just be a preference thing.
overall, again im so down with this project! the idea of doing it fully live with the eurorack is awesome! i also didn't really feel the correlation to the theme. the whole listen i was more ataken back by the sick sounds you were able to make live! great work again, i hope to talk and hear more from you in the future!
this feels like a PS1 game that sold like 5,000 copies, and changed 5,000 lives.
very cool and moody, fits the vibe you talk about really well. as others have mentioned, it would be great to hear it louder and get more of the details. I like it a lot!
Very unique submission and props for using live synths! I'd love to hear a bit of a louder mix in this project, but even so, you did a great job setting the atmosphere and tone of your game. Well done!
This was so unique! So far nothing I've heard across the submissions sounds like yours, and to see your process with creating it as well was really cool! Awesome work!
The whole OST was incredibly quiet. I thought my speakers were turned off somehow but I literally had to max them and it was still really quiet.
There were some interesting soundscapes from what I could hear, but it was still pretty hard to hear. It sounded very crunchy and I like that style.
Thanks for listening, and sorry for the low volume! This was all recorded live, directly from my mixer into my computer and recorded as a single track via OBS... I discovered that all of my audio had a pretty bad ground loop hum, so I had to mess with the EQ and apply some noise reduction to make it go away, and I totally should have gone back and increased the volume (by a significant amount in some cases). They may be a little louder on my youtube videos of these tracks, but they'll also still have that hum... I'm eventually going to start working on splitting up tracks as I record - that's just really cumbersome with my current setup.
Apparently my SoundCloud was private until Sunday evening... so sorry about that! Should be good to go now, though! Also, sorry for the low volume levels (especially track 1)... I generally just make something and post it to Youtube without too much consideration regarding the mix... This time around, I discovered that my setup is producing a nasty ground loop hum that I had to filter out, and I'm realizing now that the overall volume needed a boost. :/
Yo this was such an interesting listen! So many cool textures throughout each song. Definitely one of the most experimental submissions I've thus far. Great work!
Thanks! This is my first time submitting an entry and I really wasn't sure how it would compare to everyone else's (especially considering that I'm not working in a DAW), but I'm glad to hear that it's at least unique!
