Hiya! Troisnyx writing. (I also did all the art by hand in case you're curious.) Snuggly and I went with what we did upon one look at both the text and the image prompt, We hope y'all enjoy it, because we certainly do -- every moment of making it, every moment of seeing it come together!
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
The critical moments of our theoretical visual novel, the make-or-break moments of the relationship between the protag and her love interest, happen on the jetty on that one summer night. To that end, I did borrow xin.cere's subject and composition when drawing the final screenshot you see (which is, in fact, not only the cover artwork, but will also be the visualiser image for our credits theme)

That was a great listen... Very cohesive, close to the themes, and close to the story draft you've written/illustrated, but all of the tracks still convey a collection of many different feelings! Exactly what you'd want for a visual novel, so, well done you two!!
Great work this was very well put together! Start to finish, I really enjoyed listening and going on this little journey. The contrast of the comforting nostalgic vibes like in City Girl/Dear Diary and the deep emotional vibes in Love Lost/That One Summer Night really hit hard. You both did an amazing job!
Me likey the overall VN-like vibes and I think you've managed to achieve that aspect! It feels like I'm playing an old-school VN, almost like a retro feel like the other comments have said.
One criticism though, which admittedly is very subjective and heavily based on preference, is I think the mix feels a bit too washed out, could be because of the reverb and overall instruments levelling. Based on the story context, it's supposed to be an intimate and emotional story which usually needs an element of intimacy and nearness. To create those feelings, in my personal opinion I think it's better to focus on just a few instruments and let them really shine. Take for instance in "Come With Me", the drums, pad, and piano to me all feel like they're trying to overtake each other therefore it feels a bit "washed out", I think it would be much better if say you pick the piano as the main focus and really play with the melody to maximize the emotional impact.
A trick to make instruments feel "closer" to your ears is by playing around with its transient. Generally louder transient will make a sound feel closer and vice versa. Although this method works better with instruments with little-to-no sustain and fast attack, like plucks or drums/percs.
However again, it's all subjective matter and really dependent on the vision itself. If the core feeling that you want to achieve is an ephemeral feeling instead of nearness, then never mind what I've just said because I think this "washed out" type of mix would work really well!

Truthfully I feel like there could be space for both with that sound because summer and the passing of the seasons is an ephemeral thing, but also it's the thought of "finding the possibly long-term / eternal in things that are necessarily ephemeral;" summer ain't gonna last forever basically. I can't speak to what the Frutiger-core sound is meant to represent (that, I would leave to @snugglybunne and those who have done music like this to speak to) -- all I know is that there is a strong amount of nostalgia and social reimagining associated with the bringing back of old aesthetics in digifu circles. Basically to say that the 2000s had their own kind of optimism and beauty and brightness and hope, but they were also proper toxic -- and it's worth we revisit and reimagine those years, and especially through the aesthetics used by that period.
Yeah, the VN feeling in my solo tracks was intentional since I really like stuff like the music from a lot of KEY visual novels like Clannad, AIR and Kanon.

Uncontrollable Friction: I like this take on a battle theme. Nice bassline that reminds me of SNES JRPGs.
Love Lost: Very pretty. Great composition. I love this take on a bad ending with the slight melancholy feel.

Congratulations! What a great job! Your music feels very well polished and supports the story you want to tell beautifully. In fact, I think the music tells the story very well on its own, which I guess it's the idea. I can easily imagine it working perfectly in this type of game. The arrangements are very well done overall, your artwork is beautiful as well. You can tell a lot of effort went into this, great work!
Awesome to see you in one of these jams, Troisnyx! It's a beautiful, feel-good OST, too. Your piano work and vocals on the latter half of the album are all lovely, and SnugglyBun's tracks all have a really rich retro sound that is right at home with the era of PSX jRPGs ("city girl" was instantly reminiscent of Breath of Fire III for me.) I loved the whole album, but "come with me" is clearly the star of the show - a perfect fusion of your piano melodies and SnugglyBuns retro arrangements. The artwork adds some nice flair, too, and really drives home the wholesome feel of the album.
A+ OST here, amazing job from the both of you!
Great submission, my favourite aspect is that there's some really satisfying and interesting harmony throughout! Also really enjoyed the range of production from the dreamy nostalgic synth driven start to the beautiful intimate jazz piano. And the fit for the Visual novel / JRPG genre you went for is perfect.
One of my favorites entries, dear diary is insanely good, probably my favorite of the OST, That one summer night was also really nice it reminded me of Made in abyss ost (well done to the singer, its sounds really angelic), Really really nice work !

"Dear Diary" is such an invitation to listen. It's calm and I love it. The shift from that to the next few tracks being more upbeat is a bit jarring from a purely listening standpoint. Imagining it in the context of the game and the story, the shift makes sense. I do really like the gradual change from upbeat back to heartfelt over the course of the OST. The lyrics at the end were not expected - it was a nice surprise!
Overall, this is a strong submission. Great work!
Really great stuff! Loved the roland-ish rompler sounds snugglybun had on their tracks, and the piano work was great too.
The vocals were maybe a tad too loud, or just somehow a bit too in front so that the piano got a bit buried under (not a production expert so abstract wording it is 😅), singing was great though! Much better than what I hastily made for my last track :D (which also I had put the vocals much too loud...).

i also been voting on some of the other entries and a few have really impressed me
I have a huge soft spot for those rompler sounds since they are in a lot of ps1 etc. games.
The nice groove combined with the slightly dark harmony and those sounds in Uncontrollable Friction gave me a great symphony of the night feel as soon as the track started, really liked the whole vibe on that.
Dear Diary - Very uplifting first track, Would love to know how you did the bass!
City girl - Great funky tune, sounds like a gen 4 pokemon city theme!

Come with me - Modulations were very exciting! Particularly like the G# minor chords!
Uncontrollable friction - Some friction between the synth pad and violins, a chord really stood out and was very exciting but i think some of the notes should be looked over again as i think it could be dissonant in a more correct way perhaps? It's subtle so might just be me. Think it's a minor 9th between an E and F that's too grating for my ears (with the Eb in the bass too)
Love lost - Some beautiful chords, I like the 7/1 slash chords. The second chord is really beautiful! C13#11? Great tension and resolution work.

For my part, I can respond re: piano since I played that stuff live: I find the insertion of chord extensions as being incidental to whatever the basic chord is, so I don't think twice about it until someone points it out. I'll be sure to give yours a good listen on my return home, especially from a pianist's lens.

The tracks usually don't overstay their welcome and they are varied and always catchy!
Come with me was the highlight of the OST for sure. Very energetic and fun! Love Lost isn't as much my cup of tea since I prefer the more exciting songs but it has it's place in the OST.
Including vocals is a really cool addition. I think they might have been a little too echoey and it was a bit distracting to the vocals because of that.

I think you and I share a favourite track in this OST, which is super cool.
With regards to the final track, I did try a drier mix for something else that used just piano and voice but it didn't have the impact desired, which led me to go with what I did both there and here. However! If I were to modify something, I still feel it's too mid heavy and piercing in parts, so I imagine I'd have to tame those.
So beautiful! All of these have a very warming feel to it, very fitting for the game you imagined!
"dear diary" was great, it immediately set the mood and gave a very relaxing vibe!

I really liked the improvised feel of "love lost" and just how beautiful everything was!
My favorite was "that one summer night" which was amazing! Really reminded me of Yoko Kanno and and Ryuichi Sakamoto! And the vocals were lovely, they added a lot of heart to the track!
