Description
Town by the Pier is a top down action RPG that takes place in a mysterious coastal town where NPCs vanish each night and are forgotten by morning. The player explores, fights and restores memory fragments through overworld and dungeon progression. All while searching for someone.
I went with very minimal sound selection. A string quartet (2 violins, 2 cellos) accompanied by a double bass, a single percussion and some pads (in 2 of the tracks).
I find it fits nicely with the supposed games aesthetics and style.
Track 1: Intro (Where Are You?) is meant to serve as an intro. right after you hit "new game"
Track 2 - Time Stands Still for You (Overworld theme) is the music that plays during the day when exploring the map.
Track 3 - Echoes Beneath (Cave Theme) plays when you find and enter a secret cave or underground area, that's usually small with a very simple puzzle or "treasure"
Track 4 - A Valiant Effort (Miniboss Theme). Its the music that plays when you encounter a tough enemy for the first time. My personal favorite of these 4.
Made in FL Studio.
Message from the artist
Had very little time, started late. So I kept the instrument selection minimal. I think it turned out pretty decent (more than a couple of things I would have done differently but anyways..). Had fun making this. Hope you enjoy!
If you are curious about my other work feel free to check out my new single: https://soundcloud.com/moladoen/evelyn. Part of my my upcoming experimental neoclassical concept album.
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
The longing vibe I got from the image led to the music. And that led to the concept.

Just really really lovely neoclassical, some ambient, some more energetic but all very tasty.
Heartily applaud this submission.
Gave you an itch follow, if you like the thing(s) on my page(s), consider doing the same.
Cheers!

Thanks Doug! Appreciate you taking the time. Yeah I'm a sucker for neoclassical and been writing a lot of it lately for an upcoming project, a lot darker and more experimental than what I submitted here.
I don't really go on itch much but I followed you back here and soundcloud.
Thanks again!
Awesome submission! Wow the Miniboss Theme went hard, I loved it! Great soundtrack!
Excellent job! I love the themes and the instrumentation. The mix is balanced, but it's dry and leaving my ears parched. A healthy dose of reverb would really elevate the music.
Thank you so much! I did wanna keep it dry and close, but looking back now perhaps a little tad more reverb would have been healthier for the music.
While I don't entirely get the 'summer' feel from this particular project, I was a fan of Time Stands Still For You and Echoes Beneath all the same, very classy stuff!
That's totally fair. and thank you so much!
The string work is quite good and textured.
I think sometimes the tracks felt a little empty. Just the strings and percussion meant it felt like there was more room for a middle instrument to fill in space.
Thanks dude!
Yeah completely agree on the little emptiness at times. Probably should have had a viola in there. I also consider adding pipe organ, but also did kinda wanna keep it minimal. Next time!
Great work on these songs, I loved them! Echoes Beneath had me captured immediately lol, it was so pretty!
Thank you so much!

Very solid instrumentation all around. Here's your real time strategy soundtrack right here. Good mix too, very consistent.
Thank you! yes track 2 did give me RTS vibes.
Nice submission. My favorite track was the final track as I felt it had the most amount of depth. But all of the tracks transitioned into each other nicely, and flowed really well. Overall, good work!
Pretty good submission ! I really like the 2nd and 3rd track, and would have added the 4th if the drums were a bit more punchy. Besides that, it's a really good project !
I could definitely see these being used in an RPG game, they sound amazing! I really like how the strings sound throughout each track, the consistency really ties it all together. I enjoyed the effects in the cave theme, I thought it was really creative and good contrast from the other tracks. However, I don't really feel like this exactly fits the theme of the composing jam. Other than that, great job!
I love the constant use of the violin, really make everything feel connected. The miniboss theme is the best IMO, quite tense and beautifull !
