I don't want to be presumptuous, but it seems like you're new to music composing, yeah? (Please, do correct me if I'm wrong!) I gotta say your composition is VERY ambitious and I deeply appreciate that. I think you really have the talent in music arrangement because your sense and choice of notes for the melody is VERY good (to my ears at least), and I don't say that quite often.
I'm going to give one teeny tiny criticism, but as a preface: this is purely subjective and you may or may not agree with what I'm going to say. If you do believe in your sense and vision, please keep believing that!
One small feedback that I will give you is: know and understand when to stop. I'm going to take "vs Loneliness" as an example here. This melancholic composition reminds me a lot to Omori's final boss theme "Omori" (you may check that out, but if you're interested in playing the game there might be a mega spoiler lurking around so just a heads up for you lmao), which took reference from "Hana" by Asa-chang & Junray. Now, why do I make the comparison? If you listen to the references I just sent you, you should immediately be able to feel the weight of the song despite it's simplicity. They're only repeating the same chord progression over and over yet they work and they work really well. Going back to your song and the story, I really like the early part of the song, but somewhere around the middle, the melody wanders around a bit aimlessly and that's the part where I felt the weight was lost.
I understand that it's easier said than done because "understanding when to stop" is something that one will learn through experience and I really do hope you've learned a lot from this jam!
PLEASE NEVER STOP LEARNING AND MAKING MUSIC!!!!!!!
Just a gigantic ,gargantuas even, thanks for such a detailed feedback. I have been composing for 2 years now, but I wasn’t making enough compositions to get to the level you would expect from this time of learning, but I guess it’s just my pace. About vs Loneliness tho, I was really running out of creativity closer to the end of the jam and I really needed to make a final boss theme. So I took the inspiration from hollow knight’s boss theme, sealed vessel, the song is also very similar to the omori example you gave. I now see it too, that keeping the entire song more consistent would have been a better choice and I’ll note that for my future works. Again, thank you for taking the time to write all of this, I really appreciate having such a feedback!)
ALllll right lets say with the first seconds of piano I would never guess where this adventure went, crazy tracks such a unique style. I like the arrangement you did they're all so different from each other conveying a different mood, I enjoyed :) Good job !
I’m so glad you enjoyed:D Tracks do feel a bit disjointed from one another ,so I tried tying things together with motifs, but it’s cool that you enjoyed the difference between them as well! Gigantic thanks for feedback!
Party around was so wacky I loved it. The bassline and xylophone went so well together!
I like that the battle theme still sounds like it isn't dangerous. Since it's a verbal battle, it retains some levity and that is impressive! The time signature changes add to it like people mess up your rhythm with good comebacks.
man I just want to thank you for committing to this jam so much and commenting on every submission and I’m so glad you liked mine:D
Night: Relaxing intro. Short and sweet.
Party Around: Cool upbeat groove. I really like the bass.
Vs Stranger: I like how this is simultaneously groovy and menacing. Fits how they're still at a party as per your description.
Song that plays when you've messed up: I think this is a really effective game over jingle. I could see that ambience at the end going on and on until you hit "Continue" or something like that.
By Water: This is pretty. Nice guitar.
Vs. Loneliness: I like this calmer take on a boss theme. Really fits the description you posted too.
Pier: Like the water sounds. A satisfying end.
Great work! Loved reading the story too.
Thank you! I’m really glad you took time to read the story and also to write so much feedback! Probably the most feedback I’ve gotten yet! Appreciate it)
Ah der Pier, ein Ort zum Vergnügen, verweilen oder auch zu Kämpfen?!?
Very cool mashup of genres and nicely done. The compositions are very well done but it feels like they are a bit hindered by the mixing and is something to maybe improve on. But this shouldn’t be something to overly be overly critical about. Just something that would have taken it up a notch or two.
The overarching story can be heard quite well and the ambiance in those songs are nicely crafted.
All in all I really liked it.
Yeaaaaah mixing was always an overlooked skill by me ,I feel like now I should finally get into it. Giant thanks for feedback too!
That intro riff on track 3 (vs_stranger) is soo good! Awesome job with all the songs!
giant thanks for feedback! I’ll make sure to listen to yours too when I have the time!
Listened to it even before publication. The idea itself and the music, both are PEAK.
peak recognizes peak!
