that was solid fun my man! enjoyed the solid control for a twin stick shooter, love the particle effects you used here, make it really juicy.

for feedback, i stopped after level 10, for me if you don’t add anything after a while. you will lose the interest of the player immediately. try to mix it up with some obstacle, or enemy variety. Also why did I failed the gamble 5 straight times hahahah don’t do that to your player please! is that a 50/50 chance?

Developer

Fair points. I really did want to add more enemies (4 in total) but I was out of time. As for the odds, they are truly random 50/50 which, I too feel like it shouldn’t be like that. Thank you for playing and for the feedback! I’m really glad you had fun! :D

mine I said it’s 50/50, but in reality I actually did 60/40 hahaha making the player feel lucky most of the time. so when it finally hits the bad one, its more impactful.

Wow bro, cool art and all game too! Good job :3

Developer

Thank you! :D

Hey! I won! I didn’t expect that. There’s something very satisfying about doubling down after doubling down. Cool game!

Developer

Let’s gooo! I agree with you, doubling down on a perk is super tempting. Thank you for playing!! :D

the sky is the limit with this game. i liked the way the player attacks. i seen what you said on what this games need and i agree. I found the gamble percentage was really low but that's just my take on it. fun game!

Developer

I’m glad you liked it! I might make a full post jam version of the game adding more enemies and other things that it’s missing.

The gambling odds are 50/50 and they are truly random so it’s leads to high highs of getting lucky multiple times in a row and low lows of getting unlucky. Something I might try to fix later.

Thank you for playing! :)

I liked the use of limitation a lot, really cool game! Animation and graphics are also looks amazing!

Developer

Thanks a lot!! :D

Really enjoyed your animations and graphics fx! very polished look and feel The limitation works well too with the gambling mechanics between games - I lost everything! :D

Developer

Thank you for playing, I’m glad you liked it! :) PS: Gamble is not necessary, you can take the base perk as is if you “continue”.

Go, go non-traditional viewport sizes! Really enjoyed the visual style and feel of the game. Super clean. One new enemy type would have gone a long way towards keeping the levels interesting! Missing out on the first gamble each round felt really bad, and made me not want to risk it at all. Perhaps having a high chance of getting a weak power-up, and then being able to gamble to strengthen it, with an increasing chance of you getting nothing at all?

Really great job!

Developer(+1)

I agree with you, having at least one more enemy type and some sound effects + music could’ve made the game a lot better of an experience. Sadly, I didn’t have enough time left (and was very tired too haha).

Not sure what you mean by “having a high chance of getting a weaker power-up…” – when you pick a perk, if you continue immediately without gambling, you get to keep the base perk. And the gamble odds are 50/50. But you’re right, there could be something done to the odds so they start off in favour of the player and keep decreasing as you gamble.

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for playing!!

Never time left! I had such a long "nice to have" list :)

I meant as a random idea (no pun intended), you could offer something like 1% faster movement speed (99% chance of success), and allow me to gamble for 5% (80% chance),  10% (50% chance), etc., where missing loses the whole thing. That would heavily incentivize gambling once (almost guaranteed), and, I imagine, make folks want to push their luck. And avoid a coin flip to get super punished for wanting to explore a new mechanic you built!

Also, I'm curious, is the splash fx particles or sprites?

Developer

Ah I see what you’re saying. That’s an interesting take on the mechanic. It definitely incentivizes gambling. I’ll have to tuck this idea in my notebook for if I try to make a full post jam version of the game. Thanks for explaining!

If by splash you mean the enemy death and projectile death effects, then yes, they are particles.

Submitted(+1)

You're welcome! Yes, enemy death and projectile effects. How did you get shadows on the particles?

Developer

I’ll try explaining in Godot terms since that’s the engine I’ve used. The entire game has a ColorRect as an overlay and it’s got a shader on it. That shader is a modified version of this one: https://godotshaders.com/shader/2d-drop-shadow/

Submitted

Ah, nice! Makes sense to do indiscriminate shadows of everything when you're going minimal! I didn't think you could apply a shadermaterial to a gpuparticle.

Fun game! Enjoyable to play. Just needs some progression - faster spawning enemies maybe. Nice work!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much! :D

I really like the power-ups and the art style. With a little enemy variety and difficulty progression, I bet this could be really addicting.

Developer

Thank you very much!! I have pushed a minor update, upping the difficulty.

Interesting concept, but gets a little boring in a few minutes because there's nothing new to do. It could use a few more enemies, maybe ones that shoot projectiles, and it needs to get harder with every turn. As it was as soon as I got chain projectiles I became basically indestructible, with a lot of health to tank his and destroying every pack in a few shots.

I don't know if it was my setup, but I had no sound at all, which really diminished the experience.

Developer (3 edits)

I really did want to put more enemies - I had 4 different types in mind but I didn’t have the time to make them all. Same for the sound effects and music :(

I did, however, push out a small update to balance the game a bit and upped the difficulty. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!
