Description
THE LORE:

August Forever is set in a time loop wherein the player endlessly repeats the last night of summer. Each subsequent iteration of the time loop allows the player to unlock new dialogue and find hidden secrets based on knowledge gained from the previous loop, but doing so causes permanent damage to the cozy neighborhood of the game world via generation loss. To reflect the time loop mechanic, I made every track sample the track that came before it (that wasn't part of the jam theme, i just thought it would be cool).

Part 1: Daybreaker

It's the last night of summer before you leave for college. The popular kids are throwing a block party and you're invited, but you could also hang out with your friends or spend time with your parents. Or start packing, if you want to be boring.

Part 2: Try Again?

The first few iterations of the time loop. Unlimited exploration with no consequences. Jumped off the roof and got concussed on the edge of the pool? When the sun comes up, it'll be like it never happened.

Part 3: August Forever

At this point, several loops have passed. You start to learn the secrets of the world and people around you. From an outsider's perspective, you start to seem like some sort of omniscient deity.

Part 4: Everything Rots

The loops start to take their toll on the fabric of the universe. It's gradual at first. A street sign losing its color, or the pages of a book appearing in the wrong order. Then people start to disappear. Then buildings. Every reset gives diminishing returns. It be like that sometimes.

Man these are all absolute bangers but my favorites are definitely August Forever and Try Again!! Everyone else already said this but the concept is super creative and the way you applied it to the tracks is AWESOME. My favorites are definitely August Forever and Try Again!! Amazing stuff!!!

also this might be a huge reach but I swear I heard a little bit of Polychrome Wyvern in August Forever (at 2:35) but maybe I'm just going crazy idk

It's really fun to hear how sampling and resampling the tracks alters the theme; it's simultaneously developing and decaying. I keep thinking about how the process, the music, and the time loop theme all reinforce each other. It's like the story was being told in every step of the process. Just incredible stuff

IT SOUNDS SO WELL MIXED IT SOUNDS SO BEAUTIFUL! Amazing way to portray time loop through glitching/automating sounds. Also ,can’t help but feel, like the character in the story wanted the summer to never end and college to never start, amazing story telling!

that looping time-warp vibe is so haunting and beautiful holy shit

each track feels like a warm, glitchy echo and it gets better and heavier. what an awesome submission.

Sampling previous song loops I think is a fantastic way to tie the songs into the themes of the Jam. Give yourself more credit!

I loved how each song got more and more distorted sounding to represent what was happening to the world.

One of the coolest storytelling entries IMO

YES I love these cool approaches to connect a story and music, every track sampling the track before it is SUCH a cool idea. I was writing something about how great Daybreaker is but then the sax hit in Try Again and I got stunlocked for around 2 minutes listening to that incredibly catchy tune that just kept evolving. Holy peak what. Someone's gotta bring the beat back in the next song. Love how huge August Forever feels, the choppy sampled feel work so well for the "ascending to godhood but also things are very clearly gonna go wrong with how perfect everything is" vibe. Of course, Everything Rots is a great way to close it all out. From the title I was expecting something a bit more chaotic and apocalyptic and downtrodden, but the choice to keep going even farther into the one incredibly happy final day works so, so well.

Great soundtrack and concept! Technically, it doesn't seem like August is going to be forever at the rate we are going.Regardless, there's some absolute bangers in here. Excellent work!

and thank god somebody finally brought the beat back

Oh man "August Forever" is a bop. Really fun concept; could see this being a sick indie game.

Wow dude I love the concept you were imagining for these songs. It fit in really well with what you described. The composition is fantastic on all of these songs. Daybreaker was my favorite track of all of them. The guitar blends in with the piano so well! Great work I'd love to hear some more of your stuff.

Oooh !! Super cool idea to play with 🫨 musically and gameplay wise.

Already the opening of Try Again puts you in the loophole. And then again, it increases in August forever with the pace !

Each track could play with the one before and still develop its ideas for the next step, so cool.

Also great work on the guitars ! Might take inspiration :D works wonders with the synths 👌

My fav is definitely Try again 🔥

Awesome soundtrack, really high quality for the time we had. I like the first two tracks the most, before Everything Rots. The music really helps tell the story. Great work!

I really loved the whole soundtrack. I can't chose which of these 2 I liekd more Try Again? and  August Forever. I totally see it in game like Mixtape
