Very creative entry. I love the inclusion of modern societal/political themes in the form of a Plague Inc. style simulation/idle game and the way you pulled it off.

I wish I could've played for longer but after a couple mintues of playing I was starting to experience lag spikes at regular intervals. I'm guessing this was due to the math involved with all the simulation going on in the background as increasing the time-scale would increase the lag.

Also the gameplay loop might need a little tweaking as it seems to currently rely on me constantly buying cores in order to scam as many people as possible in rich countries in order to bribe politicians in poorer countries to boost my infection counter. And having to go into the menu to buy a new core every time gets a little tedious after a while. But maybe there were other gameplay elements I haven't considered yet, not sure.

Nevertheless a really solid entry!

Wow, this is one of the most creative and unique games I've played so far -- it's awesome to be immersed in the creepy atmosphere, and watch the misinformation spread. At first I had a bit of trouble knowing what to click on (a short tutorial could be great) but after I figured out the upgrades I had a ton of fun progressing!

Also I really appreciated the art, I was very impressed on how much you built in such a short time. Great job!

This was a very unique take on the theme.  I feel like I was a little too close to the subject matter to wholly enjoy it, but as a game it's very fleshed out and mechanically feature rich.  The premise works really well!

A few critiques:

  1. The menus don't pause when a dialog is raised.  While this is useful later, early on alot of these dialogs have alot of text to read, so an option to automatically pause or slow the timescale when a dialog is open would be useful.
  2. The Upgrade menu closes every time one is chosen, but later in the game where you're trying to spend 1000s of skillpoints it can be a hindrance.  It would also be nice to be able to buy some of the skills in bulk.
  3. The timescale can really tax the computer when turned up to the point it made the game unresponsive.  Perhaps using a form of stochastic approximation might help with optimization (ie. based on certain values, certain countries exhibit a certain amount of events within a time step, evaluate those events in bulk and then apply them)
  4. In the screen where you can see each country's progression, it would be nice to be able to sort by name or progress.  It would also help to be able to click on a name to select the country and move the camera to center on it.
  5. For countries within other countries, it's sometimes hard to select them without selecting the containing country (ie. San Marino inside Italy)

I didn't realize that the stream was dropping frames once the game started, so the VOD is mostly me talking through the game. The start of the VOD and the restart of the VOD are linked below, and will be available for 60 days

Thank you for the elaborate review :)

First off, I'm sry  you weren't ably to fully enjoy it cause of some of the subjects. Come to think of it should have put a warning somewhere, about the topics this mentions in some texts. That was  a bit inconsiderate of me :(

Also the Performance  seems to be a  major problem, I'll fix in the next update! I had a pretty strong PC (Also not running a Stream in the Background), so I kinda became careless about the performance and never optimized some aspects of it.

About 3/4 I  like the Ideas I'll try to implement them in future updates!

5.) Yeah have to think about sth for those tiny littles guy. I knew it was a problem,  but  thought the autoclicker upgrade would take care of it, so you never would have to actually take  a  look at  them individually!#

Thanks for playing &  streaming it. Testing like  this always  is an immense help :)

This is one of the most distinctive entries I’ve seen. The premise is brilliantly twisted and the atmosphere you’ve created is weirdly captivating from the start. I love how committed the game is to its tone. The language, the soundtrack, the visuals, even the UI layout all feel like they belong to the same slightly off kilter world.

The hand drawn icons and stark UI give it a strong visual identity and really sell the idea of some obscure software running in a shady backroom. I especially liked the global map integration and how every country has its own stats and quirks. The way you present progression through mechanics like politicians and scammers is full of dark humour and works well with the theme.

Seriously cool concept and an impressive amount of systems to pull together in a jam format. Would love to see this refined further. Great work.

Thank you for the review! Glad you liked it :)

I really like the concept of this. It's an interesting take on the theme, and I enjoyed it a lot.

One of the most unique games ive played! for a jam making the whole map interactable and the whole system itself is top notch. I also love the visuals and audio direction for this. I couldnt progress normally after a point because a bug infinitely started increasing my skill points (pretty on theme for this game ngl )

Developer

Thanks for the review  :)

Could you explain  the  bug a  bit more maybe , since I think I'm unaware of the one you described?

Submitted(+1)

i think i was buying something from the skill shop and in the bg the game was still progressing. The skill point sound effect happened a few times then just started happenig continuously and my skill points started increasing as well. i did take a video of when it was happening (not when it started unfortunately). should i send it somewhere?

What a wild amount of features you've put in there. Even using geo data for the countries! I think there might be some balancing missing - e.g. limiting the amount of cpu, or using accumulated upgrades (e.g. for clicking). I did not even make it past day 1, since I've reduced speed to 0.1 and then pushed so many upgrades that going over 0.1 introduced heavy lags. Such a cool game, good job!

Developer

Thanks for the Review!

Interesting tactic you did by setting the Time Modifier to 0.1 and pushing many upgrades! I thought everyone would just put it to 20x or so and then let the Auto-Clicker do it thing with a few Characters and a few bribes.

But its probably true, I spent way to little time actually balancing out all the Characters/Modifiers and doing other meaningless stuff instead :)

For the performance, that was something I feared, I have a spmewhat string PC and never  had any issues. Could you maybe tell me on what kind of system you played, for a future performance patch?

Submitted(+1)

well, I didn't know how good the upgrades would work, so I assumed I need a lot of workers - that led me to try to optimize upgrades. I've got a 8+ years old win10 desktop with 16gb ram, maybe a bit outdated but fine for most stuff

Realistic in a unique way, my favourite so far.

Thank you very much! :)

Very thematically cohesive (its all suitably creepy haha) and I loved the premise! I found it quite hard to figure out though so I wasn't very successful in my spread of misinformation :)

Developer

Thanks, hope you still had fun though! Was there any specific part that was a bit overwhelming on the first introduction?

Anyways thx for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

I think an introduction where you step through how to convert a country would be great, there was a lot of information available once I got in there and I wasn't sure how to approach it and if what I was doing was on the right track or not. Maybe having like a 'beginner' country with only some of the options available would be good? And some immediate feedback based on the initial player actions?

Developer

Yeah, throw you into the situation without much direction and MUCH information and I see that it could be a bit overwhelming.

Thx for the feedback :)

Unfortunately I can't play due to not being available on a Mac or browser :( I'll see if I can play on another machine I have lying around

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Ahh man thats unfortunate :(

Maybe you find sth to play on, but anyways still thx for the spirit :)
