How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
It is game where unluckiness behooves you in a GameBoy aesthetic.

encountered a weird bug where the police car didn't despawn on game over, so it overlaid the menu, and remained on starting again -- right over the players start position, killing you instantly on game start!
art and music is very authentic.
I also like how you staggered the controls to J+I rather than the J+K combo which a lot of us have gone for. feels a lot more natural.
nice work!
Yeah I didn't realise that bug was there until after submitting. It happens on the fail state, as you said I forgot to destroy the cop car, refreshing the game will reset it. Thanks for saying that about the button layout, it felt natural to me as well because that's exactly how the buttons were laid out on the GameBoy. Anyway I'm glad you were able to enjoy it regardless of that bug
Very strong gameboy vibes, specially the scrolling speed not being way too fast (I can see myself playing this on a DMG). Tricks are fun, and I wish more are added post-jam.
Solid entry, congrats!!
Thanks so much!
Local police encourage skater to run over every bird and cat on road. Truly an indictment of modern society!
That was fun! An authentically retro arcade experience with a competent implementation. I like the tradeoff between trying to jump over obstacles as soon as possible vs the possibility that another one might immediately spawn right after.
After having both good and bad luck runs, I only noticed a slight difference in obstacle difficulty for the vast difference in points that bad luck gives you. I also concur with most of the criticisms given by other commenters.
Great work!
Thank you
Great game. It controls well, it looks great, doing tricks is fun. I like that the cop makes snarky and sarcastic comments on your skateboarding, it's a charming addition.
I like the idea that you can trade off luckiness for better combos, and having the cop car get closer with worse luck is a clever way to create more difficulty there, since it forces you to stay closer to the right. It does seem that the powerups tend to be a little inconsistent even at high luck levels. I had a good luck run where I didn't see a single one. I think there's potential in designing something where you intentionally alternate between good and bad luck to balance healing and points.
It seems the shuv-it may be the best trick choice, since every trick gives the same amount of points as the other tricks and can be done twice in a single jump. But you can chain it into a flip and still land, so it'd be cool if combining them got you extra points. If the two flip tricks gave more points, you'd have 1 shruv-it as the least points, followed by a single flip, followed by the double shruv-it, and then the shruv-it into a flip being the best points/hardest trick. Anything along the lines of using the different tricks to get extra points would be super cool for this.
I think it'd be fun to have faster scrolling options, for some high-octane skateboarding action. Like a difficulty setting, or a survival mode where the screen gets faster every minute or so.
Overall, this was fun. There's some good depth beneath the surface, and I think there's potential for it to be an outright excellent arcade-style game.
Thanks for the in depth feedback! You can pull off double flip tricks but you have to time it just right, as soon as you Ollie perform the trick and hold the inputs down so it loops immediately after the animation. However the anim is 25% quicker for the shuv it so different point values would definitely be the right way to go. I also like the faster speed idea.
LIke the tricks and the way it plays (the button combo you used was weird but I lived).
Really cute! Had fun playing.
Thank you
Really nice game, with a strong game boy feel. Nice music, graphics and good controls. ps I'm no poser
Lol thanks
Great gameboy vibes in this! The controls feel really good. I like the sound too. Simple and relaxing to play.
Thanks!
This is a great game, it’s fun to drive around and do tricks. For further development, some power-ups or checkpoints to drive through could be a nice addition. A really solid game!
Thanks!
I love this! the art is charming especially for a pallet with this many midtones, the music is nice, the tricks do be variety too. the idea is also nice and executed perfectly. hats off!
now I don’t have significant feedback but there are a few glitches: 1- the music slider thingy doesn’t make sound like the sfx one 2- if you start the game again after losing too quickly there will be 2 cars and it’ll be an immediate loss as shown by the screenshot image.png
Ohh, I didn't catch that and I think I know why it happens, thanks for pointing it out
awesome game!!!
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this game! Everything came together nicely, the charming pixel art, the fitting soundtrack, and the simple, easy-to-understand game mechanic. It has a great Game Boy aesthetic, and I’d definitely play it again!
Thank you very much
Very good Gameboy feel to it. It does feel like it could ramp up in difficulty faster, but it introduces things well for a new player.
Thanks, I felt the same but thought I was biased because I built it. More difficulty would be easy to add
The luck/unlucky mechanic was really well done. I wish there was more moves, but I know it was a Jam game so probably not enough time to add a bunch. Very nice!
Thank you and yeah I also wanted to add more
