Hello everyone. For my first submission to the Impressions Composing Jam, I wanted to do something high-energy and dancy, but wound up with this ambient crescendo thing instead. This song is a simple ambient interpretation of life's ability to capture and dissipate sunlight, with the help of rainwater. The sun depicted in Spring's Promise, Marjorie Miller, circa 1925 appears ghastly and barely able to support a spring bloom, yet somehow life finds a way. The main "bass melody" was a little riff that got stuck in my head one day and I recorded myself humming it into my phone so I wouldn't forget it. The drum pattern was recreated from a recording of me tapping on my desk.

Certain horrific events in the US news cycle were unfortunately very present in my mind when I wrote this, and it could have "bled" through into the composition a little bit.

All sounds were created from scratch using several instances of a free physical modeling VST Synth called RipplerX. All effects used are free and non-modulatory (no distortion, saturation, phasers, pitch shifting, etc).

Lessons Learned
Need to work on arrangement/mixing, I struggle with low end and super high end sounds. Also need to work on overall song structure.

I love me some visible cloaks type beat, it sounds super nice. Mix wise it needs like a touch of polishing and is perfect. verygj, one of the best subs this time for sure.

How have I not heard of Visible Cloaks?? I'm a sucker for electronic duo acts (Boards of Canada, Autechre, Global Communication, Phoenecia etc). I'll check them out. Anyways, you're spot on about the mix, it needs some love. Missing high end and low end, too much mids. But I'm glad you still enjoyed it, and TY for the music recommendation.

I found the start to be a bit hard to listen to, but that is definitely very subjective and just because it's not what I would usually listen to. Then, however, it evolved into something I can really only describe as pleasing and generally so nice, so great job! I think the end is very creative, maybe a bit out of the blue and throughout the track, there is not much happening melodically (not that it needs to) and, as pointed out in another comment, more bass would be nice. In its entirety, I wish I was that good, keep it up!

I think the word Cool is a good descriptor for this, really has a great feel to it with all the different sounds and things coming and going + the production is absolutely immaculate on this.

I love the variety of sounds in this track; it's daring and works so well (one of the things that makes experimental so cool!). I think some low-end, like you mentioned, would've been a nice touch, but nonetheless, amazing work! I can't wait to see more of your creations. The electronic/experimental group always comes up with the most interesting interpretations!

Honestly gives me Chordata Bytes I vibes, minus the vocals.

From an article I ran across about the impact of bass in modern music. When you introduce that insanely cool bass riff in your 2nd song, it became the most memorable moment in this jam for me (so far). I will definitely explore the power of bass in the next jam.

Very nice sounds and creative production. I've read your response to a soundcloud comment where you explained how you created this MIDI snippet by automating the speed on an arpeggiator and i was really wondering how could someone come up with something like that lol. Nice work.

Yeah, I was listening to "Corc" by Autechre and heard all sorts of subtle percussive sounds that were exponentially speeding up or slowing down, creating these insanely cool little embellishments, and figured I'd try recreating them. That arpeggiator idea got me close-ish but still not as good as theirs.

Looks like you also went and did something experimental. Nice textures, mix sounds great. easy listen, I let it play in loop in the background multiple times and it was pretty smooth. Some very cool sound design towards the end. Good job !

It's hard to resist tweaking knobs and putting LFO's, envelopes and automation on literally everything. Glad you enjoyed my mix; I thought it sounded like complete sh*t after listening to everyone elses. I guess it certainly isn't harsh but doesn't stand out much either. Anyways, thank you for leaving a comment Mr. FoxHyode, and your experiment definitely stood out which is a ++++ for me.

Oof "quick statements" that's so accurate. I wasn't even consciously aware of it at the time, but you're 100% right. I guess I was imagining little critters coming out of hibernation and making goofy noises, one after another. Great comparison Dacelo, I appreciate it.

Sounds interesting and very original! For my ear it has some retro-psychedelic vibe, also a bit of progressive elements. I really like the work with panning and sound spacing. It also gave me a bit of Serious Sam OST vibe, i really don't know why :D Maybe it's because of percussion and synths.
