Absolutely love the writing in this! Really enjoyed the progression!
PEAK, I love the concept, and the fish got hella cool shoes at the end! The overall gameplay, art style, concept and mechanic was all incredibly polished and endearing, and I would say this is my favourite take on the theme so far! The arrows were super helpful in guiding me to where I needed to go, and the feeling of being able to reach new areas once abilities were unlocked was very satisfying! And the dialogue was great hahaha. My only slight problem was I feel like some of the swinging mechanics could have more momentum, as I felt that instead of swinging around I was mostly trying to swing high and then float to where I needed to be (maybe that was the intention haha)
The final evolution of fishkind: Nikes.
Fun game, interesting take on a metroidvania. Beat it on keyboard. Almost became a rage game at the end though, some of those falls were rough...
They don't call it peak fishy form for no reason :)
Thank you for playing the game! I did watch someone live on trying to get at those hooks, and yeah it definitely felt rage-inducing for sure haha. I raged at it myself when playtesting, but I kinda "got it" after a bit haha. I do agree the game could use a better tutorials system still though. Thanks again for your comment!
Fish gets jordans, cinema. Voice acting is so funny, such a fun and enjoyable way to interpret the theme! playing on keyboard, couldnt use the tongue or super jump for some reason? (at least I cant crease my new fresh jordans...) I had so much fun playing this, nice job ❤︎
Thank you for enjoying the game.
It's weird to hear about the controls didn't work for you, because it looks to work fine for other players. Although I agree that the grapple and the Jordan mechanics are kinda hard to control, so I definitely want to look into making it easier for players to play.
Thanks for trying the game out!
What a creative game ! i loved this one. The script is really cool, made me think of Stanley Parable.
It is an interesting way of thinking a metroivania by reseting position at start when finding an upgrade ! It shifts the way you explore as you find new stuff.
I just had some issues using the tongue and the super jump (I played on keyboard, so i guess it didn't help)
Otherwise, the game was a blast, GGs !
Thank you for playing!
I think the script writer did indeed took inspirations from Stanley Parable XD.
On top of taking a long time to get used to the controls myself, I admit I sucked on the keyboard controls too, haha. So I added the remappable controller support, I'd love to hear your feedback if you get to try it out at some point.
Thanks for the comment again!
very well done,i loved everything you did with this, i couldn't finish because i'm so bad at platformers. the additions you had with the evolution made it a lot easier for me. control scheme could be improved, played with a controller and the key bindings worked :)
the one thing i think needs to be better is the tongue swing build up, that felt way too slow.
-Lizabet
Thank you for playing the game!
Could you elaborate on how you would like the control scheme to be improved? Controller rebinding was also supported but maybe I didn't make it clear in the game or on the game page, so I changed the wordings a bit. I know it's not the perfect solution since the preset bindings doesn't jive well on the web build, but at least you could rebind them to your liking.
And yeah, the grapple mechanics was commented on a lot so we will look into how to improve it for sure!
Writing this for Lizabet since she didn't know how to word the controls feedback properly, and I both watched her play this game and I also gave it a try! She ended up rebinding the grapple to Right Trigger as it was more convenient for her. Rebindings weren't too clear since they were the default Godot naming (Instead of Circle it just says Joypad Button 1, as an example).
Also we noticed that for the console buttons on the game's main page the Super Jump Button (Circle) and Grapple Button (Square) were actually switched around in-game (Circle was Grapple, Square was Super Jump).
UPDATE: Just beat it with controller (moose_2 in leaderboards), no issues found. Probably just user error/misunderstanding.
As for my playthrough I played via keyboard and didn't have any real issues with the controls. I managed to beat it (My score is named as "moose"). I thought the game was a great entry and it was a really cool twist on the theme with evolution, I didn't see that much from the games I tried in the jam.

Thank you for giving the game another try!
Yeah the controller input prompt icon display is a bit of an issue that I haven't solved yet since the Godot documentation on recognizing gamepads is a bit less informative compared to their other pages, so I just left it as the default name. But I do want to keep improving that system in the future and for future game jams.
Thank you for the compliments as well. It's great to hear you both have enjoy our game!
Yeah I had to figure that out for one of our games, man it was a mess and took me a whole month of on and off solving. There are lots of weird quirks with the Godot Engine I've had to solve (If you have high refresh rate you can actually see one of those quirks in both our jam game and your game)

Nice graphics, witty but educational commentary, tight platforming, fitting music and sound effects. I giggled like a 4th grader when it said "Hold H for tongue" :))
I was going to complain that the tongue is a bit iffy, but it was all me, and by the end of the game I was licking those hooks like a pro.
This is definitely among my favorite entries from the jam. Well done!
A very unique and fun platformer / puzzle experience, pretty short, but I did get lost for about 8 minutes, but that's my bad, the concept was intriguing and th visuals were pleasent! The narrato's voice was also nice and the information we got (I presume) is facts and so it's a nice little addition to have little fun facts in the background while playing a little game about a mutating fish! Nicely done!
Haha thank you for the comment.
It was indeed researched after our artist decided the fish would look like a carp. It was the first thing I implemented voice over in my games too so I'm glad to hear it landed well with the players, but I have to give credits to my teammate TP39 for providing the amazing fun voice!
Incredible work here, congratulations! Added to my list to keep playing later because I just want to see what this Karp will become in its final form lol.
I hope you keep working on this game!
Wow, definitely one of the best games — creative, beautiful, polished, and so on… Seriously, congrats! I’m really impressed to see something this good here. Congrats again!
If you have a moment, I’d love if you could check out mine too! Play it here: https://kaijota.itch.io/graverun

Super interesting idea and good executioon. The swinging felt bit awkward buy other than the very Well Done!
I really enjoyed the idea of playing as a creature that constantly evolves after every death, trying to find a convenient thorn bush to end your life is a really dumb and silly concept and I like that! I also enjoyed the narrator being a documentary on the creature you play as.
Couple things that I feel like could've been tweaked is the movement of the platformer controls. I play a decent amount of platformers and the controls in this game feel stiff in a way, the momentum you've built up from swinging doesn't transfer momentum to your other abilities (gliding or walljumping), if the platformer controls were more refined, it would've been a great speedrunning experience. but considering that this is within a tight deadline of a gamejam, I'll let it slide (it could just be me tho). Another thing is the map is confusing to navigate, sometimes I feel lost and feel like I've been in areas where I'm not supposed to access due to the scuffed movements (though it could open for some shortcut opportunities lol). Maybe the map is leaning more like a metroidvania type thing and I just don't get it
Even with those in mind, I still enjoyed the experience in some way! I really liked the environment and visuals of the game and even added some leaves around the hud to make you feel immersed into the jungle, I enjoyed the narrator dialogue where it doesn't feel annoying like other games do, and enjoyed trying to die in the game as fast as possible lol. If a little more time and refinement was added into the game, it would've been an AWESOME game! if this game is still in the works for the future, I WISH YOU THE BEST DUDE!! I really like the idea lol
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback!
Yes the momentum thing was definitely a very tricky thing to get right and in the end we still didn't nail it in a satisfying way. But we hope to keep learning and improve the mechanics in the future.
I had actually just put out an update which adds some accessibility features and easier map navigation (no changes to the map itself). It's feedback like yours that is important for us to improve on our level design skills, so thank you again for playing!
Oh man it felt so good when I finally mastered the controls. Love the art and the voice over was done in a way that added a lot to the experience
I absolutely loved your game! It’s the one I’ve played the longest on Itch. I’m really looking forward to seeing a continuation.
The platforming mechanics feel great; wall sliding, gliding, and most importantly, jumping with the Nike shoes! The level design made me feel like I was playing Hollow Knight. Everything is so well-crafted. Also, the addition of a leaderboard is brilliant. I might have carved out some spot for myself there 👉👈.
The graphics are stunningly beautiful. From the environment design to the character animations, everything looks fantastic. The voice acting is amazing too (it’s a bit sad that there is no “sound” category in the jam rating section). Some sound effects didn’t work during my second playthrough (like walking and jumping), and the character sprite jitters slightly while moving. But above everything else, it was awesome!!
Aw thank you so much for the huge support. It truly feels really good to hear feedback like yours. The other programmer and level designer on the team was a bit competitive though so he may have taken back the spot from you haha.
As a thank you for everyone who has played our game, I had just put out a huge accessibility update, which I wrote about in a devlog. Most relevant to you, I imagine, it's the remappable controller support. I would love to see it if you can beaten Cabage again with easier controls hahaha.
