The art really works here to create an unsettling atmosphere. The home setting made for a more intimate experience, which adds to the unsettling aspect. The animations though minimal felt intentional and added a lot to the overall experience. Great work!

Thank you so much for playing it! :)

Stunning artworks and nice writing. I like the color scheme of the game. The atmosphere is depressing, and the SFX  adds to it.  The quick menu is a bit hard to see. Also, I'm surprised that this is a demo because the game size is big. Still, great game , and  I'd love to know the continuation of the story!

Thank you!! Oo I didn't even realize the size of the file, lol. It's probably big because I have some assets and writing for the full version in there. I was initially trying to do the whole game but realized half way through that I couldn't make it in time for the jam.

I related to this story in an odd way but I absolutely loved the visuals and creepy nature of this short story. I had goosebumps the whole time. I love the realness and relatable factor.

Aww thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it. :)

Oh wow! This is fantastic!!!! Not the predicament the protagonist finds themselves in of course. But the execution of the game?!?! Oh my god. It's so. I struggle to describe it. I am positively in LOVE with the vibes. It's all so artistically abstract and symbolic it's just so fascinating. The art is very fitting of the themes the game seems to be setting up too. So disturbingly detailed, I guess? It's hard to put into words but I mean all this with appreciation. While the thing I currently enjoy the most IS said art and the abstract nature of things like the girl in the mirror or the eye tree, I also like the just. Haunting realism of the situation when contrasted with the aforementioned abstract elements. The mother isn't cartoonishly evil. It's so hauntingly true. She's so. Depressed. And because of that she neglects her kid. Who doesn't understand. Can't understand. Shouldn't have to understand. It's so fucked up. And so real

Thank you so much!!! Your comment is so sweet and thoughtful I wish I knew how to respond to it. T-T

I was so nervous to submit it. It's a real comfort to know people have liked it. :)

The visuals are absolutely stunning here! Everything looked perfect!

One thing I would change however is that the name/name box kind of clashes with the text box and artwork due to it being a bright pink, left over from one of ren'pys default colour schemes. I'd suggest making it black and maybe moving it or making a name box to go behind it. But this is a very small detail that I don't think you need to worry about if you don't want to since it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the game, just a little thing I noticed a lot more since the text box fit so perfectly with the background.

I also thought that the text being white was a little difficult to read at some points since the text box is also a lighter colour.

I absolutely adored the artwork in this game and the story was very well written, great job :)

Thank you so much for playing it!

And thank you for your feedback! I'm def going to fix a bunch of stuff text/ui wise as that seems to be the most common complaint. I was kinda learning renpy as I went here, so it was super overwhelming. Didn't get to everything.

Man, you really knocked this out of the park! The main menu did a great job of setting the tone for the story before I even started playing it, and opening it up with the choice for whether or not to do such simple tasks felt very ominous. I loved the overall art style - how exactly did you create the sort of...I don't know how to describe it, the crinkly effect (?) with the colours?

I really liked that this didn't just stay a story about emotional neglect - that towards the end the eyeball, and especially the mirror-shard-monster, made it feel more eldritch and scary (banger designs on them, too). I'm looking forwards to seeing where it goes - whether the girl is okay with whatever happens next, or whether her limits will be met. Also, am I right in guessing that the girl's hair is so long because her mother never takes her to get it cut?

The only real complaint that I have is that some of the GUI and UI elements don't blend well with the rest of the art style, but when you're jamming, you just don't always have time to do everything that you want.

Great story overall, and I'm really glad to have played it. Fantastic job; best of luck with it all!

Developer

Thank you!!!

The crinkly effect is because I paint with a custom gouache brush. And good catch with the hair thing!

Yeah, the gui and ui stuff was a bit daunting for me, I'm new to renpy so I had to google every bit of customization and just didn't have the time there. It's the first thing on my list to fix as I continue working on it.

Thank you again for playing, I'll be checking out your game soon. :)

This was a really cool game! Loved the story and it had me intrigued from the get go. I even got jump scared a couple of times. The art style is very unique and looks almost storybook-esque. Very nice job on this!

...Wow.

That was... AMAZING! OMG, this is probably my favorite one so far!!! ^^

I absolutely ADORE the art direction, the simple, monotone colors work really well, and of course the blood serves to contrast perfectly with it!

I genuinely cried halfway through, not even gonna lie. The only thing I have however, is halfway through it shifts from being emotional, to being sort of magical, which somewhat gives the reader a bit of emotional whip-lash, but omg the game is so good! The animations are on-point, ESPECIALLY the Girl in the mirror hovering, that was genuinely FANTASTIC work!

The UI art is also super nice! The only thing I'd change is the font, sense everything else is really worn-out and flawed, the font being default kind of throws off the feeling. I'd reccommend a type-writer or handwritten one with a color that contrasts to the UI. ^^

Besides those two issues, everything else was FANTASTIC! For real, my absolute favorite submission so far, it gave me the feels, and the girl's design is so cool, with the long hair and all.

Good luck with judging, I have a lot of confidence in you! :D

OH, also, if you don't mind, do you think you could possibly play/rate my game? It's also the first time I've made a visual novel too! ^^

Anyways, sorry for writing so much, good luck with the jam!!!! ^^

Thank you so much for such a kind and thoughtful comment!!!!

I really appreciate it.  I'd be happy to read and rate your vn. :)

Thank you for the feedback as well. You probably understand well that when you work on something for a while sometimes you become blind to it's flaws. The jarring tone shift was something I hadn't noticed in the slightest, I'll be sure to revise and expand this part of the story so it doesn't lose that emotional feel to it. I kinda started rushing and got a little panicky about not having something done in time. And all your text recommendation is great, I wanted to change the font but I'm kinda terrible at picking fonts. Lol.

I was really nervous to share this but your comment alone has made all the panic worth it. :)

(I hope you'll consider leaving a rating on it. No pressure though.)

OMG I THOUGHT I DID, I'M SO SORRY!!!! D:

I fixed it, so sorry, that was completely unintentional!

And yeah, I totally get it, when you start working on something you kind of get used to things after seeing them for so many hours haha! Also, not sure if you're interested or not, but I REALLY like the story and art foundations you've got here, if you need a partner  or anything to help with the rest of the game, I'd be open to chat, 'cuz omg I just really really love this world!

(also thanks so much for playing my game, I really really appreciate ya ^^)
