A loooot of work for the time span and very nice visuals!! I didnt notice too many obvious bugs. Overall a cute and well rounded project! Great job!

Honestly that was really nice :) It surprised me with how much effort was put into it, and it kind of reminded of A Hate in Time with the art style. Well done :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing. Glad you liked it!

No worries :) Good luck with it if you continue developing it

You've got a really ambitious project here! I like the idea and the game illustrates that really well. However I feel like the scope might have been too much for a 4 day game jam which led to certain systems and mechanics to be unfinished in my opinion. I feel like the game is not really clear on telling you where to go or what to do. You could work on that by adding more visual cues, a missions log or even giving hints in game. Right now, at the start you kinda have to guess what you have to do and I was kinda lost for a few minutes. I would suggest to add enemies that match the attack you unlock (for example, unlocking fire from a fire enemy instead of a skeleton). I think those relations you make would really help identifying what you have to kill to gain certain moves.
I would also love to use the mouse normally instead of having to press Q and E to rotate the camera or having to "drag" with the mouse. The battle can sometimes be a little bit clunky. The lighting ball, for example was kinda hard to get used to as it apparently has a timer that destroys it midway if you don't shoot it right away. I wasn't understanding this at first and I couldn't hit my enemies because the ball would destroy itself. I suggest you also use some visual cues to let the player know what enemy he has selected, for example, as it can also be quite hard to see which enemy you are currently aiming at. Also, the mushroom minigame is a bit too difficult to avoid sometimes since the cat's movement is too slow for certain mushrooms that come your way making it almost impossible to avoid some of them. However, the rest seems to by great in my opinion and it's incredible how you still managed to build something of this scale in this time frame! Good work on making this idea a reality despite the huge challenge it is!

I can clearly see an inspiration from pokemon games here. Not only the fact that it's a turnbased game but also the whole "learn a new move to proceed for the next zone" mechanic which I really appreciate! However, the game could use a little bit more story behind this whole theme as most of it seems like it's just there. That would greatly improve the games personality in my opinion. I love some characters design as well, mainly the cat! I can also see some inspirations from pokemon here in some of them.

I also feel like the theme of death lacks some "justification" here with also a little background. Forgive me if I missed it because I couldn't finish the game :( but a narrative here would explain what's going on a little bit better. Right now, it feels like the death mechanic was kinda forced into the game. But it still works! Just kinda adding some ideas to make it look better :)

Visually the game looks good, I kinda like the cartoony graphics and it reminds me of some PlayStation 2 games (Ratchet and Clank, for example) which is really great and nostalgic! The animations are cool and UI works as intended, however, as I mentioned before, I feel like the game kinda lacks some visual feedback sometimes.

Overall, you've got a really ambitious project here! As I usually say with a lot of games here, don't see these above things as negative things but as improvements and ideas for the future of this amazing project you got here! I just feel like the scope might have been a little bit too big for just a few days but you could still manage to make something interesting which is awesome and impressive! Congratulations on your submission and I hope you keep developing this!

Developer

Thank you for playing! And thank you for taking the time to write such a long comment! I'll use your feedback to improve the game. You're right in every aspect, I just ran out of time.

Awesome game! Amazing how much was implemented in such a short time! One small bug I noticed is that the bat and bug sometimes teleport to the edge of the map and outside the playable area, but overall, super fun!

Developer

Thank you for playing! No one had seen that bug, thanks for letting me know!

Perspective comes from game-tester and user-experience designer.

Really cool to see a turn-based RPG in a game jam game. Really impressive to see so many systems implemented in a short-turnaround, I only played for 30 minutes but I wanna return to it and see more. Loved the character design of Mr. Purplebottom. Didn't encounter any bugs except when I tried to go full-screen, it started blinking black until I went back to windowed mode.

It was hard to tell where to go, what I could do, and I struggled a bit with seemingly the main battle command of Thunderball? Now I know the struggles with Thunderball came from a timer that I didn't know existed and couldn't see, only other issue was not knowing the timing of when to use the guard button. Otherwise, this seems really cool and really promising, and I'll love to see it fleshed out.

Really fun and interesting interpretation of the theme, along with cute artwork and music to go with it! I love the gameplay and it reminds me of games I played as a kid, especially with the Pokemon-like battles. Good work!!!

Submitted

I'm sorry I didn't really manage to win the fights as the controls were a bit confusing to me, but I was extremely impressed by the amount done in a jam, the fight mechanics were so cool and i loved that there's sort of a "mini game" for every ability and timing guards.

I just think it's extremely well done.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeah, you're not the only one having issues. I've been recommending to choose the middle UI at the beginning.

Had a blast playing! Enjoyed the aesthetics, loved the cat as the main character! also all the jacksepticeye references that were made! Highly recommend giving this one a shot :D

Submitted

Odd brought me here!

I didn't get as far as I would have liked because the powers were a little confusing to me and I ended up dying to the second enemy I encountered D:

Love the cat and love your take on the theme <3

Incredible amount of work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, even if you didnt get far, I'm happy you enjoyed it! I should have explained how it works better

I liked the aesthetic of the game. Very in the spirit of Halloween. Making a Paper Mario like RPG in five days is pretty ambitious.

Maybe with a bit more time, it could've had more clear visual indicators for things like block timing? Maybe also more NPCs? Or party members? Having maybe a healer or resting points could also benefit the game. (Or some other way to restore stats besides potions.)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! I'll take it into consideration to improve the game

An absolute treat of a game with a fantastic premise! Think turn based RPG but you get to be far more involved! It was an absolute treat to play on stream ^^ The two pointers I had for ya was

1- make the camera follow player to facilitate navigation ^^

2- maybe find a way to optimize how to work the teammate aspect so you dont have to move each character individually (like ally follows player until you call upon them and when puzzle is solved you can return to PurpleBottom with the Action button)

otherwise a phenomenal game for 5 days! Congratulations and I hope to play more should you build upon it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback and your kinds works, I'll absolutely take it into consideration ^^

Of course !

one more thing I forgot I had mentionned on stream is to give the bosses the little life bars (if feasible) so you can gage how much damage you're really dealing c:

Developer

Dunno if you're around. Obbourin is about to play your game on stream

OK, THIS GAME BLEW MY MIND! HOLY SHIT ITS AMAZING, UODWHUGQDWHUQWLKBDH

I DID NTO EXPECT AN RPG GAME  THAT IS A LOT LONGER THAN MOST OF THESE GAMES ON THIS JAM, THATS CRAZYYY! Now I did realize that you used something called "Bakin." I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THAT. As someone who is primarily an RPGMaker guy, may I ask your opinion on it?

ALSO, I understand that your game engine and also assets helped with making something big in a short amount of time. BUT STILL, it blew my mind, because I never would've expected something like this.

ANWAYS LET ME TELL U WHY I LOVE THIS!

  • ENJOYMENT: IM NOT SOMEONE WHO EVEN LIKES A LOT OF RPG's. SO THE FACT I LIKE THIS GAME SAYS A LOT! MOST RPG JUST HAVE SOME STUPID ASS CUTSCENE AND THEN A YOU GET DAMAGE NUMBERS. But nah, THIS GAME DOES IT WITH ACTAUL INTERACTION. I FORGOT THE NAME OF THIS POWER BUT MY FAVORITE IS THE ONE THAT FEELS LIKE AN ARCADE SHOOTER! ALSO I LOVE GAMES THAT DO STUFF LIKE Undertale OR Mario&Luigi Franchise BECAUSE I LOVE DODGING ENEMIES ATTACKS (Or at least guarding my self), NOT JUST TAKING IT LIKE IM A PU**Y. Also Exploring with the septic eye's was cool, even if it was pretty underdeveloped. I don't blame ya that you couldn't do much with them, again 5 days... ALSO EXPLORING WAS... WELL ACTUALLY KIND OF FUN???? AGAIN I WASNT EXPECTING MUCH, ITS NOT LIKE THE EXPLORATION IS PEAK, BUT GOING THROUGH A MAZE AND SEEING COOL LITTLE DETAILS, IN GAME THAT TOOK 5 DAYS IS AWSOME!!!
  • CREATIVITY: Ok ill stop with the all caps lmao. I like the idea of having to balance out your lives in order to progress. What a cool idea. Also this goes back to the fighting, but you had really cool ideas for attacks and enemy attacks, theres a lot of variety. and also I like the visuals the enemies and Purplebottom have. I guess what im trying to say is I like that this game has variety which contributes to its creativity.
  • THEME: WOOOOOO. Not much I can say than I like the idea that dying doesnt just give you one thing (like most of these jam games), but instead multiple. Not only do you die to get combat ready, but also to get stronger, and get different characters to play as. The only problem is that they feel so cool yet so underdeveloped. I don't blame you though, it was 5 days to complete this. While it was cool to play as different characters, it felt like they weren't used a lot, they felt...rushed. Again I don't blame you since it was 5 days, but i felt the need to mention it since it makes someone feel like "aww that's it?" BUT WHATEVS, ITS GREATTT, AND GETTING A NEW POWER FILLS U WITH EXCITEMENT!!!! (sorry I lied about the all caps thing)
  • VISUALS: Maybe its just me, but does this game give off like late 1990's to early 2000's vibe, with its graphics? I love how they arent overly detailed and i love how the monsters look. Everything is how id imagine those old rpg's back in the day, why do I feel so gosh darn nostalgic??? I love this!!!!!
  • OVERALL: I guess overall, this is a REALLY COOL GAME! The fact that i saw a save button, I knew "Wait is this game really that long for a jam game??? COOL!" However Oddly, I feel like while it added a lot of stuff, it also suffered from polish due to there being so much. The problem with jams is you have to figure out how to balance Creation with Polish. Creating something is one thing, and making something work is another. I had problems where I was a bit confused by some of the powers, and I also wished you put the controls in the description of the game and not just the game itself, because I like to have Itch.io on my 2nd screen to see controls for games. There was a lot of trees that were floating as well. Also i found bug:

To be honest, maybe I like this game so much because my expectations were so low for jam game made in 5 days, so if it was 10 days Id probably be not as impressed, but that doesn't matter. You blew my expectations and I'm happy with that.

What's funny is that I only played this game cuz I saw it when you posted your comment on our game. Thanks so much, I'm glad you commented so I got to play your game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for... your essay of an answer! xD

Yes, I recommed using Bakin if you're familiar with RPG Maker. You dont need to write code at all, you can do almost anything you can come up with using events. If you know how to code, you can also write your own scripts. It's a very powerful tool, I made my own assets and went with a low-poly artstyle because it's less time consuming. You can go crazy with normal maps, lighting and physics if you wanted. I have over 3000hrs of experience using it and I've been growing my own library of 3d models and stuff. This is the 8th jam I've participated in. There's a demo version on steam if you want to check it out.

I'm really glad you enjoyed exploring, other people had issues getting lost or with the camera. This game really needs a map or some sort of direction. But like you said, only 5 days. I wanted to have unique areas for the septiceyes but that was all I managed to complete. I didn't want to spend that long on the map.

I'm going for a n64/ps2/DS artsyle, but I havent gotten there yet. I'm stuck in an uncanny valley between n64 and gamecube. Some models are too smooth or too detailed to be from a n64 game.

The houses dont have accurate collision, i just used cubes, and forgot to add it to one of them lol

Again, thank you so much for your feedback, I'm really happy you enjoyed my game. I'll keep trying to improve to make better games in the future!

Really fun game! Super impressive what you made in such a short time! I really liked the dodging mechanics; reminds me of games like Mario & Luigi, which is awesome.

A few issues I noticed: some UI elements don’t always work if the enemy is far enough, making input tricky at times , probably just a minor bug. Also, a bit of balance issue: the second thunder attack feels way too strong compared to the new abilities you unlock, so I ended up relying on it a lot.

Either way, this is a solid game! I loved the visuals; they gave me major N64-era vibes, which is super cool!!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and for your feedback. Yeah, there are even more things I didnt have time to address or fix. Glad you liked the artstyle!

Really cool game! I thought I had to avoid all the enemies for a long time lol.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I should have made it more obvious that it's a turn based rpg

I am in love with this game!! I want this on my N64 honestly haha. Rated!

Super fun game with really cute character designs! I think some instructions or guidance would be helpful as I was a bit lost on what I should be doing at times, but overall very enjoyable and I really liked runnin around as a cat haha

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the feedback, I'll take it into consideration. I wish I could have watch you play it live
