Fun and very unique mechanic! After playing quite many games in this jam, your really separates with its uniqueness.
Would be interesting to see where a game like this could expand if scaled up a little bit but this was overall a very good Jam Game Experience
This was a really enjoyable experience! Pretty simple mechanic and game overall that works pretty well, especially for a game jam! Controls were also simple and easy to get used to and the gameloop is also really simple and so good. I really liked the way you implemented a "tutorial" window explaining the whole game with videos on the side to illustrate the mechanics, really well done (I wish we did the same in our game but we didn't have time, unfortunately)! The only complaint I have here is that I think the game may be a little bit unbalanced and too easy with the revenge part at least. I think I had too much time to kill the fish and I was too powerful for them to run away. In fact, I only noticed there was an actual game over when you explained that in the tutorial part when I pressed the "?" button near the end and tried to lose on purpose xD. However, I understand you probably made this easier than expected to be more accessible for the game jam! So it's just a thing I wanted to point out as probably an improvement for later versions.
The game has also a really creative premise that fits perfectly with the jam's theme! You nailed this part completely but I wish there was just a little story behind the game (this is me just nitpicking but I like when games explain things with a narrative!).
Visually the game is pretty simple and great! I enjoyed the graphics and the feedback overall works really well! The VFX are good, the colors are well combined, the animations are really good as well and even the environment and the little background you have here adds up to an ejoyable experience! Though I would like for the dash mechanic to be more visually represented. It just took me a few seconds to notice how it works and it's a really intuitive mechanic but I wish there was like an animated circle or any indication along with your cursor pointing towards the place you would land with the dash, if you get what I mean. I think that would make the experience even more intuitive! Nevertheless, the UI is very well done and visually the game is enjoyable!
Overall I think this was a very much enjoyable experience! A really simple mechanic with an also really simple gameloop that plays well and blends in really well with the jam's theme! Really great animations and art and SFX that adds up perfectly to a greatly enjoyable experience! Congratulations on your submission!
Yes, your assumptions are correct that I made it a lot easier with considerations for the jam. The controls were meant to feel a bit awkward in revenge mode, which ended up making it a bit too difficult. I did some subtle trickery to make it easier by increasing the hitboxes and adding a little aim assist as well, without compromising the weird, jet-pack-like controls. The difficulty does slowly scale as you play, but it's very gradual that it would be hard to realise. So I think entering revenge mode becomes a riskier strategy as you advance. But because of the lack of enemy types and maybe special boss-like phases, it lacks any feeling of progression which would help players realise the game is getting harder.
I really wanted to add a story that plays once at the start of the game about why the character is cursed. The death curse mechanic is a really good base for a little story that could work across different settings. The issue was I didn't want it to be just a paragraph of text, I would want to show image or animate it a bit, which is not something I can currently do very easily or quickly.
I agree about needing some more little indicators. I kept it in the back of my mind during the entire development, but never came up with a solution that I could implement quickly. I think the best method for this problem would be to just try different solutions, like the one you suggested, and just tweak and iterate until finding something that works. Which wasn't going to be feasible within the time constraints.
I really appreciate people like you who show genuine interest in other people's projects and give good suggestions. Thank you so much for your detailed feedback!
I like this idea a lot! I've seen a lot of games where creatures just spawn on screen, and you kill them, but this one makes it so that you have to exact your revenge on the ones that actually hit you! Rather than health, you have a timer for vengeance -- it really makes me actually want to perform my wrath on these puffer fish! Here was my high score, it honestly is probably not too hard to beat, I just wasn't super good at this game, haha.
Great work, I hope to see more from you in the future! <3
It's a nice little game! I think with more time and polish this could be something we'd see on steam. Good job :)
This was such a satisfying game! Took a bit to figure out exactly how the movement worked as I thought you just had to keep on clicking to move. Would love to see a full game based off of this concept with more enemies and possibly even boss fights! Very satisfying movement! (I got 3900 as my highscore, no one is beating that 😤)
I think I hid the tutorial a bit too well on the bottom left, but honestly, I don't think it helps that much. It's a lot better to just figure it out by trying, since the controls are relatively simple. The revenge / blood jet mode is supposed to be a bit harder to control, although there is a trick to it, so you can get pretty good at it.
Of course the original plan was to add more enemy types and hopefully a boss. I left it for last just in case I ran out of time, which I did, so I'm glad I planned it that way. But it's a real shame it didn't reach it's full potential.
Thank you so much, that's a pretty good High Score as well!
Probably just be my old laptop but the game was lagging for me. Looks cool, love the music and aquatic ambience
Did you try windows version? The web version runs poorly on old laptops.
If you did try the windows version and the performance is still bad, I think I might have to try an optimise a bit more.
I tested it on my 10 year old laptop (intel i7-5500U dual core 2.4GHz) and I was getting over 120fps on windows. But maybe that wasn't too bad for the time.
great I didn’t see that I’ll try again
I really enjoyed this game thanks for making it and looking at my project! :D
great visuals and the music is really good. Gameplay is simple but fun, it could be cool to have more than one type of enemy.
Nice game! Brings back memories of playing flash games in 2009 instead of doing my homework.
this was really fun!! i liked the simplicity of it and the overall design!!! i liked zipping around and stabbing everything i could
Such a cool idea for the theme, and the sound design was great!
Suuuper fun game, the movement and dashing mechanic feel really smooth. Congrats! So good! It would mean a lot if you could rate my game too!

Great idea and game loop super fitting to the theme. Took me a second to figure out the timer was me bleeding out but on my next run I had alot of fun taking my time to take out enemies then switching it up when I got hit and having to speedrun taking out the remaining enemies. Very fun, Great work
A fun game with a clear game loop and reference to the theme. I enjoyed the music change while going into vengeful mode and the overall idea. I just wish there were more enemy variants!
Same 😭
Wish I had extra time to implement all my enemy ideas. I purposefully left them last so that I would have a complete game first.
The game jam theme is tricky with a lot of interpretations. I'm happy I figured out an interpretation which fits with my original understanding of the theme.
I've played a lot of games which are wildly different to how I first interpreted the theme (this includes your game). It's really cool, I'm glad people are so different and creative!
I had some performance issues but judging from the other comments maybe it was just me. I like the fast paced movements and the music,
Did you try the windows version? The browser version doesn't run nearly as well, probably because I went heavy on the shaders and particle effects.
If it was the windows version that's more concerning .
I tested it on my 10 year old laptop (intel i7-5500U dual core 2.4GHz) and I was getting over 120fps without any issues, but it was laggy on the browser. I did put a warning under the web version, but I included it anyway since I think most people should be able to run it even with the performance loss.
Please let me know! Would be really helpful feedback
The movements are unique, but they’re not bad. The idea is clear, and the gameplay—if you obsess over the score—makes you want to keep going and not stop. Good.
Solid game. I enjoyed dashing around, it felt very responsive.
A lot of fun, the visuals are great, gameplay is addictive, and the music is a bop.
Really liked this game! it reminds me of dojo of death in an awesome game.
can definetly see me sink some time into this when i'm supposed to be watching a lecture lmao.
Great job!
Omg, I just tried dojo of death and it's amazing! I've must have played it before because my dash animation is almost identical. The dash mechanic was actually inspired by watching this Deynum Studio dev vlog. What's also funny is that I wanted to add a projectile enemy, like in dojo of death, but shooting starfish of course. I'll link dojo of death on my game's page so more people can check it out.
Thank you for your kind comments, really appreciate it!
