A short and sweet story about an unwanted transformation. The writing is evocative, but it felt too much like an outline rather than a story for my tastes. I would have liked to see the dialogue and character actions expanded.

Yeah, I actually started with something much bigger and more complicated (similar story and themes). When I realized I wasn’t going to finish, I started over, aiming for the simplicity of a folk tale. I agree that the submitted draft doesn’t quite nail it! I almost think this draft is too much, doesn’t quite nail the simplicity aspect.

Thanks for reading!

This was a very cute story, nicely written, thank you!

I would wish it had a bit more things to have fun around with, but that says more about my expectations from interactive fiction rather than I see a necessity here.

Developer

Yeah. I was hoping for a chance to add more choices and variability, but I ran out of time! Thanks for the review!

I’m a huge fan of fairy stories and haven’t read many about sea fairies, much less salt fairies! Also a big fan of changeling stories. It was short, but I enjoyed the two endings I got (willingly trading places with the human and escaping with the human). Well done!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! There were four endings, so you got 50% of them!

it's so important that this story starts out mentioning that the child is loved. it really makes every decision after meaningful. evocative, unfluffy writing makes it float by with a marked chilliness, which a good folk tale often inspires. curious that you think it's unfinished. you already wrote the only possible ending!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. My feeling of it being "unfinished" is mostly about wanting to do an editing pass (what's there is more-or-less a first draft) and layering in some additional text variation, plus typography and illustration. But it makes me so happy to hear that you got it!
