Description
In the smash-hit imaginary underwater metroidvania-style game WATER LILY, play as a woman with the strange ability to breathe underwater and a knack for exploring the deep sea.
For this submission I wanted to mix the light and playful aesthetic of Springtime with the openness and mystery of the ocean. In terms of instrumentation, this meant blending woodwinds and soft strings with lush synth pads and modulated pianos.
I imagine the game having a good mix of exploration and tough platforming segments akin to games like Celeste!
I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making it 🐦⬛
NEW WORLD - Introduction sequence, delving into the deep.
WATER LILY - Main menu music, your character’s main motif.
MARCH MARCH - Treacherous exploration theme.
END OF SPRING - Your final challenge, an arduous platforming gauntlet.
Lessons Learned
I learned the power of granular synths, and got better at automating strings!
Where did you source your cover art?
Piece from Claude Monet's "Water Lillies".

Solid sub, first 3 tracks could be a bit longer ngl imo. Especially on contrast with the 4th one which is a total jammer. Mix on all 4 of the tracks is great as well. verygj
This is one of the best submissions I've heard in this jam — especially the atmosphere you created in the first track, and also the drum part in the last one. This is wonderful!
Wow, blown away. Really good orchestration and story telling. I can tell the bigness or ocean like spring feeling here. Really good work. Only thing, the cymbals sounded a bit to far away (I know from experience) in the third song. Other than that, it was really good!
Really good. New world reminds of Tunic.
I'll have to check it out!
This was great to listen through from start to finish! You really had a vision and it is shines through in your work. Every song is good but I have to say END OF SPRING is my favorite, especially when the drums come in, amazing
Really nicely done, great story telling through music. The arrangement is super cool, there is no "boring" moment or too long moments, you switch everything perfectly when it needed to be switch. Good job !
You faked me out so hard at the beginning with those retro-SNES pads that immediately morphed into a lovely orchestra!! Such a cool moment. The way you're blending synths with traditional orchestral elements works really well. These pieces have a strong harmonic backbone supported by soft arpeggiated synths. You are creating lovely chord progressions and are relishing in their beauty, and it's refreshing.
The End of Spring is my favorite, the drums sound really well mixed, and the effervescent arpeggiated synths, and the lead synth organ both blend well with the sombre orchestra.
That surprise in the beginning was unintentional but I’m glad it happened! Thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate you 🐦⬛
Big Celeste vibes with the piano and synths, really nice vibe on everything.
Good stuff!
Great entry! I loved it. It sounds very professional
