Honestly they changed and over complicated the main gameplay hook. They're free to change and do things as they like, but in the current state of 0.9 which I'm sure it's super Alpha, preliminary stages, I'm not a fan of the over complication of core mechanics. It went from marginally first time annoyance to I don't want to even play anymore. The past versions definitely made the game stick out and was phenomenally fun. It was simple but complicated in all the right ways. Now I feel like it's way too tedious, when it's already tedious and quirky. Adding onto it just alienates players. I will keep checking out newer versions, but this one stopped being for me.
