Nice graphics! Good job on that as I see you made them yourself. I like the idea behind the game and the atmosphere is quite scary, I was preparing for some big jumpscares the entire time. I managed to get the bad ending tho. Well done!

How does your game fit the theme?
There are scary boogins in the office and they definitely shouldn't be there, but there is also one other guy, that keeps showing up uninvited.
Game Engine?
Self-made & used stuff

That's a fifth project in a row, where I try to do something I haven't tried before (this time it's a walking-simulator type horror)

Alas I got the BAD ENDING, haha! Loved it, the simple game loop is so charming and the subtle (and a few not so subtle) jump scares were great (the one which spawns near the TV made me jump). Kinda reminds me of my own game :))
A few tiny issues I found, looking backwards while approaching the dentist freezes the cam in that direction itself, maybe it could be rotated to face the dentist. Apart from that the UI could be polished, but I understand it's hard to do all of that in 20 hours of dev.
Overall, loved it!
Yeah, the cam issue became apparent after we submitted. Most players come downstairs facing forward, so that's not a huge issue.
As for the UI, yeah I agree. I was trying something new (with the direction of the subtitles indicating who's talking, but in the end, it could use a bit more polish.
As for the similarities- after I played your game I had a similar thought. Both are walking simulator horrors, where software development is at the center of the story :)
I must say this is an excellent game, and it's really cool that you're trying new things, as you mentioned in your words. I believe it's a very rewarding experience and also quite useful for developing our artistic side.
The atmosphere is very well-crafted. Even with few elements and rooms in the setting, it feels large enough to be believable. The fact that the crazy dentist keeps bothering us, constantly trying to get into our workplace, is undoubtedly bizarrely scary haha (I’d even say he’s scarier than the monsters that pop up every now and then).
The sound of rain fits perfectly with tense atmospheres, so it was a great choice to make the atmosphere more melancholic this way. The rain, combined with ambient sound effects during interactions, makes the game very immersive.
I must say, as usual, the design with a cartoonish style is very charming. It’s always nice to see that visual in a mix of 3D with 2D elements.
I honestly don't see anything to criticize here—everything works very well in a harmonious way. The only thing that could be improved without losing the essence might be using small translucent boxes behind the text to make reading easier. As it is, it's completely understandable, but I think this detail would instinctively guide the player’s eyes to where they need to focus, without missing any details of the story.
And the ending? Ah... The ending. The grand Dick shows up again to save the day! (Or rather, the night). It had been a while since I last saw him, and it's great to see him strong and hunting monstrous creatures while saving innocents. Luckily, it was the first ending I got. Then I played again to get the bad ending, and poor protagonist...
In summary, another great game! I would love to see more games from you in this style, as it is really engaging. Wishing you success and good luck in the jam!
I think it’s a really nice, short, and well-made game. It was fun to play, but the rain sound felt a bit too loud compared to the other sounds and was a little distracting.
I really liked the 2D style of the characters, it gave the game a great atmosphere, and the drawings looked fantastic!
The creature could use slightly stronger sound effects, though.
At first, I played the bad ending, then replayed to see the good one. At the beginning, I thought there was no way to “win” the game, but having the ghost hunter (and the vampire!) appear at the end was such a great surprise.
Overall, it’s a very well-made project, great job!
Thanks! The sound is something that I'm trying to improve on, and I think over all I'm going in the right direction :) Couple of days after the jam I think that the rain sound was a good idea, but looping and volume could have been done better.
2d characters in 3d space is sorta our style at this point. I'm glad you liked it!
The key to winning was a piece of vampire lore- vampires can't enter the house (or I guess workplace) uninvited :)
Loved how the characters are 2d in a 3d world gives asthetic and prolly saved time. i was always waiting for a jumpscare from the dark guy
Cartoony doctor movement is fantastic, I love this art design, but I got bad ending :(
Very good atmosphere overall with the cartoony and the mix of scary. I knew that guy couldn't be trusted. Got Good ending first time
Interesting game. I liked the silly "name scandal" emails going on in the background. Ended up letting them in despite the fact I suspected it would be a bad ending. Business card was a nice touch.
Thanks for playing! If this was a longer jam, the gameplay would be a bit more complex- something like "papers please" or "not tonight", where you accept or reject pull requests based on changing criteria. As we only had four days, it got simplified, and instead of updating us on changing rules the emails tell us about office drama :)
I didn't know if it was easy to notice, but all the information on the card is told to the player before (because I believe plot twists need to be earned).
Great game. Dick is my hero. I replayed for it for the bad ending to purposely get eaten.
Really nice entry! It managed to freak me out and make me laugh at the same time, quite an achievement. That dentist was both hilarious and incredibly annoying in the best possible way. Just a minor thing: UI could need some polish.
The jumpscares hit hard and were perfectly timed throughout! I hate these kinds of games, which makes it an ideal pick for Halloween. The sound design, especially when that creepy creature shows up, was absolutely on point and built great tension every time. Overall of course fits the uninvited guest theme as well!
Thanks to my extensive vampire knowledge, I thought I knew exactly what to do (or avoid doing), but that ending still managed to catch me completely off guard xD A really fun, spooky, and well-executed entry!
I believe the horror-comedy to be the best mix. Ever noticed, that both basically work by building and releasing tension by suddenly showing something you didn't expect?
As for the ending- I wanted to give the player all the hints before giving the choice. And the choice itself is based on the thing that vampires can't enter the house (or I guess workplace) uninvited.
One last question- did you get the good or bad ending?
Plays well in browser for a 3d game. The concept was nice and well executed.
As far as the game play goes, I notice some other comments about the UI that I seem to agree with.
I wish I didn't have to play through the entire thing again to get the good ending (but I will).
Gameplay: 4/5
Visuals: 3/5
Sound: 3/5
Theme: 5/5
If rollbacks were as simple IRL. Just blindly accepting and enjoying some office drama.
Really loved the art of Dr. Adam.
Overall a good experience, great job!
Would've been funny if it was a git ghost 💀Nice seeing you at this jam again! I really liked the gameplay; it was fun and simple. As I said on your previous games, I like your 2D sprites in a 3D environment. Sounds and theme are also checked (even though the rain sound doesn't loop smoothly). My only complaint would be the atmosphere. Now, this is going to be my personal taste, but I think there could've been done more with lights and shadows (I didn't even notice it was night until I replayed it again just now). Keep up the good work!
I gotta say- I always enjoy comments from the repeat goeders!
I see your point about the lighting. It was mostly due to the fact, that at the start the game was supposed to be darker, and the player would have a flashlight. Then I figured it made no sense, and made the office well lit, but it killed the atmosphere. In the end I decided on this half-dark.
Ahahahahah. Poor Paul (totally not laughing at him, i mean 1.92 is TINY, isn't it :P).
The game is pretty welld-done. The rooms are made well, so i don't get confused while walking around too much. The black thingies gave me a decent chill once or twice, too. the good thing about the rollback pc is that it really leaves suspense for what happens next. even frustration when that dumbass "doctor" comes around. Man, i dont think he's married, he would've ate her already.
Jokes aside, there really isn't much to nitpick about this game. It's really that solid. If there was ONE thing i would nitpick (and it's really tiny) is that the raining sound doesn't loop very well. you can tell when it starts and ends. Still, that's just me forcing criticism.
It's a very nice game!
Keep it up!
I wondered if anyone would notice the office drama taking place in the background :) I left it a bit vague, because it gives you the chance to fill in the blanks, and also, it's not the meat of the game :)
As for the doctor, I wanted to give the players enough data to hint at the ending, but not enough to give away the twist.
And yeah, the next time I use the rain clip I'll have to edit it so it loops nicely.
Thanks for playing!
OMG i just love u game!
This sprites just cute, interact with PC using mouse great idea.
And this ending just killed me =D
This was a great experience. The pun caught me off guard in a good way. The atmosphere was really tense and my kid walked in at exactly the wrong moment and got scared by a part that also startled me.
Small visual nitpicks, but I'm really picking at nits here:
- The "Press E to sit or stand" should probably hide while the player is sitting at the computer.
- One of the dentist's particularly long lines of text extended outside the game screen.
Incredibly well done.
I hope I didn't startle your kid too much :) I design most of my games to be kid-friendly, and test them on my 11 year old :)
As for the nitpicks- I left the message on purpose, because I didn't know if the players would remember that, if they only glanced over the message :). The message though. I didn't notice it, probably because of the monitor resolution. The dentist has the new part appearing on the right, so I guess it was still possible to read it.
Thanks for playing, and glad you liked it :)
Also- good ending, or bad?
