Nightmare material, in the sense that it felt like a very realistic nightmare! I really liked the pacing. You packed a lot of distinct, escalating story beats into this short piece.
Very good. Though I felt someone would be more likely to just send a form email saying something like “Your email is very important to us, but unfortunately misdirected.” than take on all that work—but then the horror of being buried under all that work as your coworkers vanish would not be as apparent, so it works. :P
Thanks for playing! Your work experiences are clearly very different from mine, let's put it that way.
this was great - reminded me a lot of Calvin Kasulke's Several People are Typing and also Hanna Bervoets' We Had to Remove this Post
Thanks! I'm not familiar with either of those books; adding them to my to-read list now!
This is truly horror. When the first co-worker vanished I felt a creeping sense of dread that only got more intense with time.
Thanks - I'm glad you found it effective!
The sense of dread was mostly of increased workload :)
You were experiencing the game as intended, then!
I played this earlier today. It has always been enjoyable for me to write about dysfunctional workplace experiences, and it is just as much fun to read the dysfunctional/dystopic workplace based fiction of others.
I laughed when I got to the line about "letting CoPilot help reduce your workload". I work in an educational environment, inspiring students (I hope) to acquire knowledge and practice skills so they can outperform CoPilot. It makes me crazy when I attend professional workshops at the local college, and the professor is lecturing from an LLM generated slideshow.
Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed!
(As an editor I really have no idea how CoPilot is supposed to help me get more done, but here we are.)
Too real, too real, right down to the crackers and hummus by the fridge. I really appreciate that for a time at least you can create just as much email churn for your coworkers, as they create for you.
No comment on how many "crackers and hummus by the fridge" dinners I have had. And yeah, when everyone's frazzled the email churn is sort of self-perpetuating. Thanks for playing!
Emails are a bugbear. At least the player can switch off at night! I’m invested though, what happened!
I'm sure the PC's boss would prefer if they didn't switch off at night, but sometimes you've only got so much in you...
I do have some thoughts about what's going on but I felt like it might be more effective to leave it vague, at least in terms of what I could do justice within the time limit.
I dream in emails
worn-out phrases
mile after mile
of just empty pages
Very apt!
