It's incredible how much content you got in to this in such a short time! The general gameplay loop really reminded me of Slay The Spire, getting this much in to a gamejam is absolutely insane, great work. Sadly I'm just not very good at games like these so I didn't get too far, but that's purely a skill issue, this is so great

Developer

Nah don't worry it's not a skill issue, I think there's a lot of room for improvement with teaching players how to play / being less vague about what things do. Thanks for the kind words and for playing!!

Incredible work to have made this in just over a week wow. I love the art style, it all looks so good and cohesive. The gameplay is fun, it's a solid deck builder, tho I do agree with others that something differentiating it from slay the spire would've been nice. I think it was all really well executed, it was fun building my deck and becoming OP to annihilate the boss. I do think it could've used a bit more description for what keywords meant, like for instance I don't know what the 3 mana card that gives you growth at the start of the next turn did. Overall fantastic job, very highly polished and well executed game!

Developer

Aw, thank you so much for the kind words! I agree with you about the keyword descriptions and changing it to make it less of a Slay the Spire clone. I think those two things could improve the game a lot and are definitely things to keep in mind for the post-jam update.

Appreciate you taking the time to play and leave feedback!

Super cute art!! I love the style. The gameplay kind of reminds of Die in the Dungeon, which I love. Well done!

Developer

Thank you!! I'm glad you liked the art, and wow - being compared to Die in the Dungeon is such a huge compliment. Thanks for playing and also for the kind words!

As others have said, the art is gorgeous! And there are so many features you got in which is super impressive! One thing I felt I missed was feedback on where to click. Either with SFX or a little shake to tell my brain I am over something that I can interact with. I also wished there were tooltips or some kind of help with what the icons meant or what the features were. It felt like you relied on an understanding of slay the spire to teach how to play. I am excited to see what you come up with next! Minor, but I couldn’t load this game in the duck duck go browser on mac. I switched to chrome and I could. In duck duck go it was stuck on the loading screen.

Developer (1 edit)

You make a lot of valid points on the UI! I meant to have something for the active button states (like a hover effect of some sort), but ran out of time and didn't add anything which does feel a bit weird I think! Same with tooltips. I also wanted to include a tutorial but ran out of time. But those are all things that I think would greatly improve the experience if they were implemented!

Also thank you for the feedback about it not working in Duck Duck Go! I had no idea it wasn't working in there - might need to test it in other browsers too, and figure out how to fix it after the jam.

Thank you for your kind words and detailed feedback, I appreciate it!

As so many others already mentioned, the art is incredible!!!

I just wish your art would be animated to make it even more alive (they already have faces etc.) but I know that would be insane amount of work for a jam and as far I see this was even an solo entry hence no time for that for sure.

I am not a card game player so I cannot give feedback for improving the gameplay, but I enjoyed playing it. I guess my main motivation to proceed was seeing more art from you.

Maybe as a tip for future, look out for a 2d developer with some experience in jams and team up with him. I guess you could unleash more potential in a jam if you spent the whole week on art. I can imagine that would end up being insane.

Great job on this and looking forward to see more from you!

Developer

I love your idea of teaming up! Being able to focus on just the art for these jams sounds dreamy, because art is my favorite thing to do! Right now I'm trying to learn Godot (hence why I work solo) but in the future I would love to team up with others.

I also really wanted to animate everything, and hoped I'd be able to have stuff like idle / attack animations, but sadly ran out of time. What trips me up the most during jams is usually the code and trying to figure out how to make stuff work! But I agree, animation would bring everything to life and be so nice to have.

Really happy to hear you enjoyed it even as someone who doesn't play these types of games - thanks for taking the time to play and leave such a nice comment!

Such great artwork just like last time. You've got a really strong sense for visuals, really inspiring stuff.
Enjoyed the game! Reminded me of a game called Card Crawl! Very well done!

Developer(+1)

Aww I'm glad you liked the art!! I have never heard of Card Crawl but it looks super fun so I wishlisted it-  might end up playing it later! Thanks for playing and  for the kind words :D

this was really fun to play and the art is just gorgeous! My feedback would be to think about how this game can be unique and differentiate itself. At the minute its pretty mechanically identical with slay the spire

Developer (2 edits)

I think you're onto something. I played another entry that was also a cardbattler called Inkhedoro (it's so good - would recommend playing if you haven't yet) and one interesting thing about it is how and where you place cards can affect the damage, which really got me thinking about mechanics. This jam I was more focused on how & if it would even be possible for me to create a card battler, but I think making it more unique from Slay the Spire could make it a lot more fun!

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for the kind words!

Very good line art and painting

Developer

Thank you so much!

How did you manage to get all of this done?? Looks amazing, fun to play, sounds good. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much!! I'm pretty sure most of the game was fueled by caffeine and questionable bedtime decisions, lol. Happy you enjoyed it!

This art is awesome! So smooth and polished.
Gameplay feels nice too, you did a really great job. One of the coolest submissions

Developer

Wow this feels like high praise, thank you!!

This game is awesome and it's so impressive how much you got done for this game jam. I've always wanted to do a deck builder game and would love to connect over discord or something. Excellent job!

Developer

Thanks so much! You should just go for it and make a deck builder if you want, they're really fun! My discord username is #buttercow8599, add me anytime - always happy to chat with other game devs. Thanks for playing!

Wonderful game! Everything runs smoothly, and the level of polish and the visuals are very impressive. Congratulations!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much! I'm really happy to hear that it ran well and felt polished, a lot went into it (but it was fun :)) Thanks for playing!

The graphics are so good

Developer

Thanks! I really appreciate you playing my game!

Lovely art and nice polish! Gameplay feels.. familiar...

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And yeah... I totally ripped off Slay the Spire. But they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Great game. Art and music are fantastic, and the gameplay is very fun.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it :D

Submitted(+1)

This was a very enjoyable experience to play! I think the music, SFX, and graphics work well together.  The art style is really cool and loved the feel. Given how much work it took, take this next comment with a grain of salt, but my one suggestion might be to have the music looping in the case of longer battles as I encountered a couple battles where it ended mid-battle. As someone who struggles with getting music to loop correctly, I know it's a tall ask! But I really LOVED the music, it would be something I would enjoy listening to on loop.

Developer

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! The music looping is great feedback -  I was actually on the fence about it! I decided not to loop it because I was worried it'd be repetitive and annoying, but reading your comment makes me think I should have just gone for it.

I tried really hard to pick music and sound effect that wouldn't be too grating to have to hear over and over, so hearing that they work well together is a delight!

Submitted(+1)

Wow, the graphics and audio are on point, and make it a more immersive experience. I think the difficulty curve is a bit too punishing, but others might enjoy that more than me haha. Great work overall!

Developer

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the graphics and audio :D

And yeah, the difficulty can be tough. Even I struggle with unlucky map generation / making it through a run, and I made the game! Probably could have balanced that a bit better. Appreciate you giving it a shot!

Submitted(+1)

Great artstyle with a bit Slay The Spire like game play... Of course I liked it!

All those characters are so cute but my favourite is the shopkeeper. The pose... lol

Developer (2 edits)

Okay, you have no idea how happy your comment makes me because the shop keeper was my biggest character design struggle. I kept thinking he looked so odd and felt like I couldn't get him right. Here is the original versus the updated design (lol). I probably would have spent even more time on his design but couldn't because of the time constraint.  And haha, the pose. Now that you mention it, I can't unsee it. He looks like a little kid that needs to go to the bathroom 💀

Anyways, thanks for playing and for your comment!

Awesome art and audio. Drawing the splash screen shows how much you care.
Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I may have spent a questionable amount of time on that splash screen, so I'm glad someone noticed it! Appreciate you taking the time to play
