Really fun platformer! Simple yet effective, I liked all levels and the black and white graphics was nice to look at.
My only tip is on the audio side, you said in a comment you preferred to have no music and that's a choice that can work, but without music I'd have liked some more character or variation in the SFX, as someone else mentioned!
Thank you Luveid! Really appreciate your comment.
Hmm, fair. Maybe I will look into randomise the SFX variation. I originally planned to do that but cut it due to limitation.
Nice game for platformer fans. Not really my kind of thing, but I can appreciate what has been done here. Good interpretation of the theme.
Thank you Cymbalis!
I appreciate you giving it a chance even though it's not really your type of game. It means a lot to me!
Solid platformer, I admittedly gave up on the "timing" level as I'm really not into these types of games and can find them frustrating, but that's more of a me thing. Graphics were nice, game felt really well polished. Really nice entry!
Thank you! It looks like people really didn't like the timing level haha
And you know what, I am not sure if I like it either. lol
Thank you for playing and thank you for a great feedback, though!
many things were said already in previous comments, and all of them are true!
you did a really clever level desing overall (except that infamous "timing is everything" level, that one got me anxiety hahaha).
just to try to give a "constructive feedback" that is not already said I would go for the sound effects, they are really pleasant, but I would suggest a little randomization on the pitch, at least for the popping sound(maybe you tried and it didn't work, which is totally fine). but it's just a minor suggestion.
ah! and some chill music woulnd't hurt, it's nice with just the sounds, but being a musician I always look for that :)
great game, congrats on doing it everything by your own!!
Thank you, Jet Pistacho! Really appreciate your feedbakc!
I'm lowkey happy that I have "that level everyone hates". I feel like every good game has one of those things everyone hates or dreads. lol
And yes, I agree with you about the sound. I actually did think about randomizing the sound, at least for those decaying blocks but unfortunately, time limit, priority, and my skill level got in the way... haha
The music is actually intentional. I actually had a light, simple beat going in the back but I preferred it to be silent. I thought it gives more focus on the message in each level.
about randomizing the sounds, take a look at https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/classes/class_audiostreamrandomizer.html man, when I discovered this I was so happy xD
all right then, I respect the non-music decission :)
Ohhhh I didn't know this function exists! Thank you so much for sharing, this is awesome!
(I love Godot! haha)
Awesome game! The platforming is tight and you managed to make interesting challenges with the decay mechanic. And I like the positive message spread throughout the levels, it's a really nice touch! Well done!
I'm very happy that you were able to enjoy it. I do see some points I can improve, too. Coyote time, level design, overall polish... thanks to feedback from you guys!
I'm also happy that you found the message nice and positive. It means my game did succeed in some extent :)
Nice platformer! Pretty hard though, but it was enjoyable to play overall
Thank you so much! Really appreciate you giving it a shot :)
very sweet little game, i think it did indeed warm my heart ^^
controls feel nice! hitboxes could use a little adjustment but i think they were good enough, the sound effects were chosen well, and the mechanic is pretty fun
i didn't really enjoy the "timing is everything" level, it was very obtuse to figure out what to do... i was expecting that when i figured it out, everything would make sense, but it was just very precise timing which felt unsatisfying. other than that, the levels are quite short, sweet, and enjoyable to play through. i especially really liked the story of the game, its encouraging and gives me a warm feeling inside... :3
was a fun experience overall, good job!
Thank you, aloelucidity!
By now it's pretty clear that the most infamous level is the timing one. haha... And your experience is totally valid. It could have been better. I mean, it could have been already better probably if I could have managed to make the control a bit more responsive. Well, live and learn, I guess. Thank you very much for sticking around and still giving it a try!
I'm very happy to hear that it did indeed warmed your heart :D
I really enjoyed this and I normally can’t stand platformers. I agree with other folks about it would be nice to include input buffering and coyote time to make the jumps feel a bit more responsive. I actually enjoyed the level design and had fun trying to find the hidden words. It caused me to die a couple of more times when I would go back to try to uncover the words and end up hitting a spike by mistake. I was confused the first time I got squished when a block respawned. Not sure if that was intentional but I would have appreciated it being broadcast a little more. Partly because of the particles and partly because of the color palate I was losing the character a bit if I destroyed lots of blocks at once and never saw myself die till the level reloaded. Overall really nice entry!
I really appreciate this type of practical comment. Thank you so much.
Coyote time for sure but you are also right about the "squish". I think I should have maybe added an outline to the character player or something so it reads better. Hmm, maybe I'll find a way to update it after the rating period is done.
I'm also very happy that you enjoyed the game! I'm not much of a platformer kinda guy but it means a lot that you enjoyed it :) Thank you!
Nice little platformer with clean and pleasant artwork.
The level progression was good and the controls felt responsive.
Really like the hidden message.
Thanks for submitting!
Anonymyst, thank you so much! I was not confident about the level progression but am really happy that the game clicked with you :D
Fun little platformer, it did the theme very well. The design was great, everything from the art to the sound to the gameplay felt very cohesive.
I managed to get the key on the timing level after a half dozen tries, but then died to hubris when I was trying to get over the jump pad. Couldn't get past it after another half dozen tries, it was just a little too strict, although I'm sure there's a more reliable strategy I didn't think of.
Thank you Secret Reality Studio! Really appreciate you giving it a go.
Yeah, one of big lessons for me to learn going forward is to create good, achievable levels. I admit that I just made the levels, not properly designed them. Sure, time limit was a huge factor but the jam made me realize that that in itself is a skill.
So please don't feel discouraged!!
I had to retry "Timing is everything" about 7 times, before I took 5 and the pace seemed changed when I returned.
The graphics are of a consistent theme (good even, considering you were on programmer duty), and animated very well. These make for a solid game. And I can't usually stand platformers!
I didn't really get the ending, other than there were no more trap doors. Nor did I find any of the words from each level, other than the printed text at the starts.
Hey 11bitbay, thank you for giving my game a try! A great comment, too. It really means a lot.
I'm usually not much of a platformer guy but somehow I happened to make one and boy was it hard! lol
But I'm glad to hear that it left a solid impression on you.
The gimmick with the word; One word is hidden in each level and if you connect them all in order, it will form the sentence you see at the end. It's actually a quote by a very famous musician ;)
The little ghost is super cute - probably the cutest ghost design I've ever seen. The animations were really well done and added so much charm to the character. I love your take on the theme too!
I had a pretty tough time with some of the levels. The coyote jump timing gave me a lot of trouble, but that's probably just me being bad at platformers. I wasn't able to finish tonight and I gotta sleep now, but I'm definitely revisiting this later to try and get to the end.
Overall, great work on this! I loved the messages and how they tie in to the levels, it is so clever and fun, and not something I've seen any other platformers do.
Oh wow, The Bee's Knees, thank you so much for your comment.
Coyote time is something other people pointed out and it is now well noted in my brain. I should definitely look into that more. Making a platformer is not difficult, making a good one, though... An entirely different story. Haha
I'm glad the theme and message seem to have resonated with you well. Really appreciate you giving my game a try. Good luck!
Great entry, this idea also crossed our minds (a platformer with decaying platforms), didn't go for this but I'm super glad someone did because I love platformers. Finished this game, I absolutely loved that you went the extra mile with the hidden words and the message at the end, really adds depth to the experience even though it's a brief one! As feedback, I think the gravity/speed of the jumps may be a little too fast, specially when jumping off of springs. Also, spikes hitbox seem a little too unforgiving also. Not saying that those are bad things, just hard things! hah it really made me think of 'I wanna be the guy' physics and hitboxes. Overall, a really solid entry. Congratulations!!
Hey, iDLE LUKE thank you for your feedback!
Funny you mentioned that you were going to make something similar originally because, I didn't really plan on making a platformer! lol It sort of grew into it (my original idea was more story-based). So, although I did my best of making one for the first time, I realize I have much to learn about the genre. So yeah, what you pointed out is very valuable for me.
very cute!!! Though I wish there was input buffering/ coyote time for a platformer like this 😆 Would've made this game perfect !😌
mkrd, really appreciate you playing the game!
You are totally right; I should have looked into the coyote time. Duh
Live and learn, they say. haha
cute and proper puzzle platformer. I love the jumping animation and sound, feels so good to just jump around
Thank you! The inspiration is Animal Well, my beloved. :D
Very cool idea and a fitting aesthetic :) The shader make the frames drop a bit which can be dangerous at times. But very nice game! Well done
Thank you blatalzar!
Yeah, after the submission, I examined the lag and I think it's because how I treated load/preload. Sorry about that.
Maybe I'll update it once the rating period is over!
Small, cute and well constructed game! Loved. A bit of a strange message though hahaha
Thank you vennnot for trying my game out!
I wonder if you are talking about the "hidden" message...? :D
This was hard (but im no good at platformers, so...)! But very rewarding to complete each level, great job!
Thank you, Part Fawn Ent.!
I'm not good at platformers either let alone making a puzzle platformer... What was I thinking. lol
But anyway, thank you! Glad you seem to have enjoyed it :)
Wooooo, good game and good job! I need some sleep, but tomorrow I’ll try again to beat level 4 =D
Haha, thank you mrnetwork! Glad you enjoy it. You can do it!
But yeah, got have some sleep first. lol
I loved the clean, retro art style here. And the sound of the bubble blocks respawning? Sooooo satisfying. It was a little laggy in the beginning on browser but after like the second level it was fine for me. Well done on this one, excellent entry for the jam! You should be proud :)
Thank you whataboi!
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to solve/mitigate the legginess at last. Thank you for pointing that out though. That's definitely something I'll need to work on in my future projects.
Otherwise, I'm beyond happy that you enjoyed the game with such a high praise. Thank you so much :)
