Nice game! A little short, but you can see that there was effort put into the development. =D I noticed that there are some lags when the scenes are loading… you could at least add a “loading” indicator or put a “fade out / fade in”, so as to make it clear that the game hasn’t crashed. Also it’s a shame there is no audio, it would have added a lot to the game! =)
The game is very good and congratulations for making it in godot!
A couple of notes that I think would improve the game:
- the colors of the menu: I would choose a color other than light grey, when it turns white you can’t spot the difference. You could also add an underlying effect (an underline, a bar, etc) or a movement
- it’s a little frustrating that there is no way to get out of “holes”, also I couldn’t climb diagonal surfaces (mountains, etc)
- I would also add music in the intro, because I didn’t understand if the game was without sound or not
I also wanted to report a bug: when the word “TOTALED” appears, the first time the game didn’t get to the summary screen, the second time it appeared after the car ended up “below the level” (glitch).
Keep working on it!
Okay, so it’s a game whose scope was definitely too large for a jam. But I can see the effort you put in, and I have to say that the result, even if “rough,” is definitely good, especially considering the 20 hours it took (I liked the water effect on the edge)! A good result for the first time with 3D!
I love the graphics and the concept, but unfortunately I’m testing the game on a smaller than standard monitor, and the icons are very small and the tarot card text is illegible =(
It’s a beautiful game and I think it’s very well made. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to fully appreciate it during the voting period…
Ah… the intro animations are beautiful!
Imho, one of the best games of this jam!
I love the hand-drawn graphics (very nice) and the idea of the 3 experiments: a good catch!
I the game could benefit from an indicator that marked successful experiments as “passed”…
And, for future jams: don’t use the ESC button when releasing a web game, because ESC is the default button in the browser for the fullscreen exit! =)
Congratulations on your first jam!
Thanks! All the ideas you’ve proposed are very good, but I had about a week to develop the main system (and had to program in the gaps between family and work), so the details and animations related to the emissaries remained just an idea on the to-do list. For the theme, I chose a less literal interpretation, as suggested in the theme description. It was a risk… and often my choices didn’t pay off.
I have mixed feelings about this game.
The low-poly environment, controls, and movement are truly excellent. Good work!
But the 2 parts “catch the spheres” and “guess the constellations” seem like two separate games that don’t fit together well.
Another thing that’s a bit confusing is the “start level” menu: there’s no indication that you’re progressing through the game… it feels like the game has only 1 level and there was a reset. You can see the “progress” only after the start, because the number of spheres to collect increases. Lastly, the color scheme is a bit “psychedelic” (not bad, but I’m not a fan of gradients made by contrast colors) and the white color of the plane wasn’t a good one: I understand that contrast was needed, but I would have used white only for the highlight parts; sometimes it looks like it’s a single block.
Anyway, I’m impressed: it’s the first time I’ve piloted a plane with a keyboard, and I don’t feel completely inept!
It’s a good looking game and the music is evocative, but… I cannot find the moon. And I’ve tried a lot of stars. I think two things would improve the game:
- A connecting line between the various stars, so you can better visualize the constellation
- A hint (like the first star) after a few failed attempts
Also, the sound of selecting/deselecting stars becomes annoying after a while, I would have put a system to disable it.
Thank you for your detailed review! I know I didn’t interpret the theme ‘stargazing’ literally, but the game’s idea came to me while reading the description: “The theme does not have to involve literal stars. Stargazing can also mean seeking fame, discovering talent”… =) I knew it would be a bit of a gamble to go for a more metaphorical interpretation, but in the end, what matters is the fun part! =D
It’s not really my kind of game, but the concept is nice. Imho, games like (without a clear “objective”) this rely on visuals and effects.
You could add differences between the stars (colors, sprites, etc.), effects on the connecting lines… or, as others have suggested, a database of constellations to recreate!
The game is quite fun, the atmosphere works really well, and the audio does a great job of helping with immersion.
I think there may be some UI bugs. I have the impression that the panels containing the questions are hidden, while the buttons remain clickable. After clicking them, and hearing a beep for the first time, I started seeing the prompts and the “results” overlapping each other.
The core idea is nice. I think the game could benefit a lot from focusing more on the story (maybe with some “hints to discover”) and less on “X random events”!
