Alfred's Kingdom: The orchestral textures have a chilling regal and emotional nature to them that I think represents a kingdom well, or maybe a falling kingdom. The use of solo instruments gives a sense of intimacy and diminutiveness. I think this track could be used effectively in a film for an emotional scene. There is a lot of harmonic motion, but it does have a repetitive feel that I think could be remedied with a less repetitive melody line that sails over the rest of the orchestration.
Alfred’s Sentence: What I think is interesting about this track is that the overall feel I get when listening is one of despair or hopelessness, but the harmonic progression has an upward inflection which seems a little counter to the initial feeling. Maybe this is a clever injection of hope?
Alfred's Last Words: I think this is my favorite track of the OST! The piano/mallet plucks over the strings and brass give a pensive sound perfect for a poignant end of life moment. One instrument that I think is a creative choice is the use of the saxophone in the orchestration. It has such a nasal/reedy quality that it does give the overall sound a unique color that I think creatively represents what a medieval orchestra could possibly sound like.
Overall these are nice pieces that evoke strong emotional imagery and are quite cohesive with each other. I am feeling doubtful that they were composed for this particular jam though because I am not really getting any connection with the jam’s theme. If you have any context that could help me understand better, I’d appreciate it! Good work and thank you for sharing!
