The premise is excellent, simple, and effective. I can see this being a lot of fun (puzzle + platforming).
However, the execution... not so much.

The game is super easy so have fun!

It is not easy at all because the controls/physics(?) are very, very clunky.

As a platformer, the controls are very disappointing. They are slow yet slippery, the jump is floaty, it's not possible to control jump height, and wall-jumping often fails due to lack of coyote time (when it works, it usually goes in the opposite direction without clear reasons). The hitboxes are unfair. I wish there were a quick "reset" button to avoid dying and waiting for the animation.

You should look into GMTK's Platformer Toolkit (not to copy, but to understand better what makes good platformer controls)

(please understand that my intention is to provide constructive feedback to help you improve as a game developer. :))

Hey thanks for the criticism! Helps me grow as a developer so don't worry about my feelings.

As for the quote. No. I'm just evil...  muehahaha.

Lovely game, loved the art and the music and the concept! It reminded me of Void Stranger (it's a game of a different genre for sure, but there's an similar shadow enemy). The difficulty is higher than expected, so I didn't finish your game yet, but I will. Respect for the retro style.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Void Strangers seems interesting :0
Retro style lives on!

I love the mechanic where your jump trails become enemies - it's a fascinating twist that ties perfectly into the theme! The retro art style is beautifully executed, though the wall jump feels slightly challenging for me. Still, it's an excellent design idea. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the experience. and I apologize for the whimsical wall jump c_c

The idea is really great! I love the fact that you're your own enemy, literally. It's kind of disappointing that the movement is not that fun, sometimes you build up too much speed and sometimes you don't get any without reason, walljumping needs very percise inputs to be able to get any speed or to jump from the wall at all. Also the trails sometimes seem to spawn somewhat randomly, very commonly killing you where you stand. While the execution isn't that great, I really love the idea and i think the art is pretty good.

Developer

Hey sorry your experience wasn't grand. Appreciate the feedback too! I'll keep that this critism in mind next time I make a game

The little nooks you put in to mess up the player is crazy, after a hard trick as well!. What a hard puzzle platformer with the oddest wall jump I've ever used, sometimes when hitting the roof and trying to wall jump in one direction when you hit the roof your velocity switches and its so annoying.

Loved the art and music.

Gameplay is rage inducing but playable. The precision needed for some of these tricks is insane. Once you get the hang of the wall jump the game feels like it opens up a bit.

The one level where you wall jump past a falling pumpkin thing and have to get back is crazy.

I loved the level where you have to start by triggering the screaming pumpkin then taking the round about way so you don't block your own path. (second to last)

The more I play the more I realize the amount of effort.

I liked it. My finger hurt. Good game. This is who the slime is.

Thanks for taking the time to write this!
My main goal wasn't to make a rage-game, that's just my fault for being a bad game designer T^T
Level Design was inspired by Celeste, and Dust: An Elysian Tail. Although I feel that the puzzles felt similar to a "rollercoaster" experience. I've added Coins/Gems to suggest players to try a different, and more harsher path.

In technical design. Trying to create my own physics engine is a challenge, hence the wacky platformer mechanics, Wasn't aware of a roof problem, thank you for that info. I'll keep that in mind for my next platformer. Originally planning to remove the wall jump, due to me feeling like it'll feel clunky to play. I decided to keep it, just to gain some code experience. Sorry you had to be my test-subject...

Art was done by SaltyDev. aka ME! Not used too creating animations more then 3 frames, since most of my art inspirations come from old nintendo titles. This time, taking inspiration from old PC games. Such as Lemmings, and even pitfall. But also paying homage to my key inspiration--- classic celeste. That is a lot of inspiration.

Music was done by my friend. enderg4be. I'm thankful to work along side him. Reason why, because he is a genius at music. And I'm glad that my games have professionally done music. If you liked to hear music from me, and have wounded ears. Check out CVE, my previous game. Else check out enderg4be page- /profile/enderg4be And contact him! He may love to help you on your next projects.

I'll pay for finger surgery. Thank you for playing! Bye-bye.

Cool idea. I could not get past level 2 though. how are you supposed to wall jump?

Developer

Thanks for playing- You hold the arrow key to extend farther in-air!

Ah. Ok. It's hard to master I see. I like the difficulty

Developer

The difficulty is due to my limitations.

Nice idea, but very very hard to master. I couldn't figure out how to jump off the wall in the second level.

Developer

Thank you for playing- You hold the arrow key to extend farther in-air!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! It's suppose to be a really hard , the wall jump may be a bit hard due to my limitations.

couldn't figure out how to wall jump
art is really nice
is it on purpose sfx volume is higher than music volume?

Developer

Thanks for trying the game! Sorry you couldn't figure out the wall-jumping, and yes. The SFX is higher than the music.
