Nice game! Loved the concept of this Venom like bunny. Pretty starting animation and ambience. also liked the ability to push yourself up. But the gameplay needs some improvements, sometimes it does not fell fluid and is very hard to go to a platform or pass through a gap.
I also would be very happy if you can rate my game too, i am looking for more ratings before the JAM ends.
This is a cute little Metroidvania. It’s definitely a bit rough around the edges in terms of physics and lack of UI, but I made it to the end. Props for avoiding the standard suite of powerups (i.e. double jump, wall jump) and going with something more unique. One thing that stood out to me was that the controller movement seemed to have little (or no?) deadzone, so I’d often end up slightly sliding when my stick wasn’t completely idle. The music was very catchy, although the arena music was so much louder than the overworld music, which was a bit jarring. Nice work overall!
You're too nice haha :) we obviously rushed it but wanted to be a part of the jam anyway. We had grand ideas ofc but only 2 weeks :x In the end, we put everything together and didn't have enough time for polish. Thank you for playing!
Really cool art style and and music. I feel like the abilities could use a bit more explanation but once I got the hang of it, moving around became really fun.
Thank you!
Yee we ran out of time to put nice UI and other QOL improvements to the game. Had to quickly post controls on the Itch page.
Really well done, everything comes together in a chill, but challenging world, proud to have contributed even the smallest amount!
I like the visual style, the main character is very cute and well-animated, especially getting out of the tank at the start of the game and the death animation. Some of the other pixel art is also nice, although the tiles seem misaligned at times and kinda randomly thrown together. The music is also quite cool and atmospheric, especially the main theme playing throughout the game.
It took me a very long time to figure out I could attack with Left Click, as the game page didn't say so (nor did it say that attacking was even possible at all), and the game doesn't seem to make use of the mouse at all otherwise. In general, fighting sadly wasn't very fun due to the huge enemy hitboxes and the lack of sound effects, and I ended up just walking up to the enemies and mashing most of the time.
Like mentioned before, the map feels a bit like a random bunch of platforms and tunnels, and it was a bit of a chore to navigate due to everything looking similar. It was hard to make some of the precise jumps that the game expected me to do, due to touchy air controls and lack of QoL such as jump buffering or coyote time. Grapple-able ceilings are hard to tell apart from normal ceilings, and are sometimes too far above where you're standing to see, forcing you to jump around and spam grapple to progress. The requirement to recharge the wall-breaking ability seemed a bit unnecessary, considering there was always a recharge station nearby. In the end, I walked through a door to the right of the map and ended up falling endlessly into a dark void, so I guess that means I won?
Overall not a bad prototype, it's definitely playable and has the potential for an interesting story, for example: Who cloned us and why? Who was the shadowy figure with red eyes that gave us the wall breaking power? Why is the wall breaking power a syringe? It does need a lot more polish, though!
What a long and insightful review of the game! Thank you so much for checking it out! Tho, I think you didn't play the final build cause I did fix a few things with the map, platforms and other QOL. As stated in other comments we sadly started 2 weeks in and had to rush through a lot of things. I wish we had more time to test things and really work on the movement but such is life, and game jams lol.
The narrative is quite extensive, and was there before we even started working on the game. We might revisit this idea in the future to truly do it justice!
Thank you for the kind words ^-^. Im new to animation so it mean alot!
I think this was pretty cool, the art was awesome as well as sound, but not very minimalistic, just because its pixel art doesnt secure that aspect of the game! It's more in the feel. The actual code seemed a little off, it didn't feel great to move and stuff, but it was pretty fun anyways. Awesome job!
Hey! Thanks for kind words! We started 2 weeks in and this is the result haha :p I've just uploaded the final version with some tweaks, SFX to the character and QOL bits - there's an ENDING now! If you want you can give it a shot one more time ^^
OK cool I'll do that!
All in all a really interesting submission with an amazing art style and some nice music, which unfortunately is brought down by some weird hitboxes and physics bugs, lack of feedback for damage to the player or to enemies and a style that makes it easy to get stuck without any real design language to guide you. I also find the lack of sound effects when it comes to attacks movement and jumping also contributed to the lack of feedback.
Finally in regards to the theme, i think the implementation and connection is weak, with simply stating that because it is pixel art, it is minimalist.
again though, visuals are really cool, enemy design is cool, the player animations are cool i will revisit my rating after the grace period ends in case of changes
Hey! Thanks for talking a look at our game :) We started 2 weeks in and this is the result. I've just uploaded the final version at the very end of the grace period (I THINK!) so if you want try to revisit the game and tell me what you think! When it comes to the theme we wanted to go "Limbo" style but over the course of the project we shifted by adding some color to it - maybe we lost the vision along the way but I still believe it's quite minimalistic.
Will definitely revisit and play through again and adjust my score accordingly, when i say the connection to the theme is weak, I believe that justifying it through visuals alone, and without any gameplay is what in my eyes, brings down the score about it relating to the theme, but i will definitely try the newest build
Thanks again! I will definitely get to trying, and rating, other games since the grace period is over. Can't wait to try Minimalizing!
Thank you! I tried to make the art minimal but i guess i got carried away '^o^
