A lot of potential here, nice art and pretty good mechanics especially for a first attempt and no programming experience, after getting the wall jump I managed to (accidentally) reach a point where I could then fall through the world, so you might want to bear in mind to try and keep your world a closed loop...

Not sure if you intend to enter more of these mvm jams... but if you do really looking forward to seeing what you achieve with a bit more experience.

Developer

On the first level you can see that I covered everything, and had some more assets and music to add and dialogue, but did not have time. I think they said this is the last MVM. But yeah will try to enter more jams to get more ideas and test myself.

Congrats on your first game. It gets easier from here!

I echo the sentiments of some other commenters that it’s better to keep your scope small, and polish that scope as much as you can. But on the other hand, I also get the appeal of being a new dev and just wanting to keep adding stuff as you get ideas.

Hope this was educational, and that you find a flow that works for you!

Developer

Many thanks. I honestly tried to keep it small , but over fixated on improving the controls first. But thanks to the jam I have better understanding on better finish the game to its core and perfect everything that breaks .

I liked this game a lot. The art style is great, the map design is clear, and the saving system works nicely.

but i could not kill the enemy that throw arrows

Developer

Many thanks. I think some of the collions are not touching and have to make them bigger, I always played with a debugger that shows the collisions )))).

The game is pretty good for a beginner project! Sadly I could not get past the wall behind the wall-jump-potion. But for me the dash was also not working, so maybe that is the reason. For future projects I recommend splitting the controls in a way that you dont dash or attack with the same hand you use for moving the player.

Other than that: solid game.

Developer

Many thanks for playing, I rushed the game and did not have time to correct there, for the dash you have to unlock it at the beginning area if you have the double jump and wall slide and that wall just gives a shortcut it is not important.

Ahh I see. Thanks!

Pretty decent for a first game. Had more stuff to it than I was expecting but honestly it's probably better for you at this stage of learning game development to make scaled down projects and focus on getting what you have right. That doesn't mean you shouldn't dream big of course, just make sure you know you got the basic feel of the game how you want it before you pursue them. Good luck in the future!

Developer

Thanks man, Thanks to the jam I stopped obssesing over making perfect movement and started doing other things, the minibosses were the hardest. After playing your game I thought what a nice game and first place for you ))).

not bad for your first try. you def have a good bedrock. i do hope you wil be able to refine afterwards

there are a LOT of glitches with the enemies, the screen is too big so i cannot see where my health and potions are

wanted to go to an area but doorway is too small. the dash buttons dont seem to work.

however making use of Coyote Time i was able to get over many obstacles and such.

the end area with the wizard and i think theres a softlock after the gate with the dialogue box

keep onto it and i think you will excel

Developer

Thank you, much appreciated feedback.

Didn't have time for a longer comment earlier, but I want to acknowledge your 2d character controller is actually fairly solid. You got jump buffering and coyote time in there if I'm not mistaken. It's rare for a first game so props to you!

I also like the knight's walking animation. It's cute!

If I had to make a recommendation, it'd be to add sfx in the future. It makes a big difference for gams feel.

Good job and keep at it!

Thank you, I wanted to add the sounds and polish some things and add the dialogue of a funny story but unfortunatelly run out of time.
