If you have questions about rules anything, post them here!

Eu queria pergunta sobre o tema do jogo. Vai ser um tema sortido ou livre? Pois a maioria das game jams das qua participei tinham tema sortido.

Look under Optional Themes for some themes.

The big constraint is working with the assets I give you!

Hey! Does changing audio pitch count as too much change? Or is it fine

HostSubmitted

Well, if you play CHILL MODE, the rules are very relaxed, do whatcha want.

If you choose the other modes, you should not change the data (change pitch values), but if the engine you use supports playing things faster or pitch-shifting itself, that is probably okay. But the spirit is don't change the actual data, nor add detail to things.

Would you say this Jam is beginner friendly. Haven't made a game before and wanted to try to learn as I go

If you use Pico-8, very much so. Coding is easier in Lua, and you are given all the assets you can use, already in Pico-8 format. And the community is very helpful and kind to new folks.

Hey! if i submit in hard mode, can i colour shift or change size certain sprites. Or is that too much?

HostSubmitted

FOR HARD MODE:

You can change the color of already existing colors with PAL.

You cannot add detail.

The only way to change size is with SSPR drawing the sprite bigger. You should not be editing any pixels.  But scaling the existing sprite to look bigger onscreen with SSPR is fine. You can also  use parts of sprites with SSPR or use CLIP.

if i use godot and scale a sprite there, is that using SSPR?

HostSubmitted

Yeah, scaling a sprite is fine!  Just do those things live.

Are the MIDI files inside 2_ThingsOfNote.zip just part of the ARG or are they free for use inside a game jam game?

I'm using a descendant of ye ole SCUMM engine (version 6) and I haven't yet gotten around to adding digital audio. I guess if it can't be helped, I'll just convert the mp3/wav files into glorious 8 bit mono Creative VOC.

Are there any sound effects available for PICO-8? I found plenty of music (and have that working) but couldn't find any sounds effects.

The start carts and demo carts have sfx and music in them. If you solve the mystery, there are more sfx and music to find!  Inside one of the zips are tons of songs, and a whole sfx cart.

Hi. I just noticed there aren't full color tile in the tilset. Just red ones. So if I display tiles and sprites above a full black background is it considerate as cheating ? I don't want to make a red sky.

HostSubmitted

It’s fine to use rectangles / circles / pixels of color, but just don’t use that as the primary method of drawing. Devs need UI, particles, sky, etc.

What are the full credits for the base assets? Who should I credit for art, sound effects, and music?

HostSubmitted

Look at the bottom of the Jam Page under Credits.

Thank you!

HostSubmitted

Yep no problem!

Thanks so much for the extension. Working on the credits now. Who wrote the music for the worldrooms.p8 cart?

HostSubmitted

Likely Gruber!
