Very solid, it was on the limit of my comfortable level of difficulty, but it was an interesting concept. The visuals are charming and the music fits in well. Good entry overall! Personally I think you have a few more things than needed, but I get the point, like a bite sized metroid but I wonder if all of it is really needed. I think the timer, while it makes sense with your adherence to the theme, it drastically changes the way I played the game and I'm not sure if it helps the overall focus. like you have all the ingredients for a metriodvania, if time is the major factor why bother having ammo to the arrows for example? especially since the bombs don't have ammo, it just sorta dilutes the pool of what COULD be health dropping from enemies. I felt like the time forced me to rush and there was a lot of time i just fell instead of jumped and it made it feel like the game wanted to be a lot more fluid but it wasn't quite there yet. Or I'm just bad idk. TY for making a game tho!

First of all, Allo is clearly the best protagonist I've seen in the gamejam so far (and I'm 100% not biased saying that)! The pixel art for the characters and biomes is gorgeous, with Allo’s crouching and crawling animations being my personal favorite - he's just so adorable! I also liked the music and the sound effects, especially the feeling of impact from shooting and hitting enemies.

The idea of using multiple smaller missions is clever for a minimalist Metroidvania and does a great job creating a sense of exploration while preventing you from getting too lost. The levels, enemies and powerups are certainly very much inspired by the classics, and overall I feel like there weren’t many big surprises there. However, the controls are nice and snappy and everything feels like it’s implemented very well.

My one and biggest issue with the game is the timer. I was able to barely beat most of the levels on time, but ended up giving up right at the end of the third mission due to running out during the final boss. I just feel like it creates unnecessary stress, and considering the high health and tight placement of some enemies, the timer kinda encourages just running or damage boosting through some sections.

That said, I actually went back and played Super Mini Jumper after this, and while both games are fun in their own right, I can definitely see the improvement in the player attacks and enemy design in this one. Looking forward to more dinosaur adventures in the future!

The pixel art for this game is incredible, something to study. The SNES vibes are immaculate, I love it.

I had a few issues with the gameplay, most notably the enemies being very difficult to avoid. Rooms are often cramped and their hitbox are super large, sometimes as big as their sprites (or maybe even bigger?). If your fireballs are not upgraded, some of them takes forever to kill (those red slimes!). And they constantly respawn...  Being  on a timer,  I've  found it often  more advantageous to just ignore them,  tank the damages and hope to heal it later.

I've also had trouble remembering which item could open which  colored doors. I would have preferred all doors to be blocks with the item's symbol in it, like some of them already are. And I felt a map was sorely missing in the later missions (though I think you started the jam late due to finishing another one first? Think of it as a suggestion for the post-jam version ;))

I liked the idea of the separate missions, it gave the game a bit of a "randomizer vibe". Like you're never sure what you will get to play with this time and in which order. That's interesting. Though it evoked to me  more of an "arcade" feeling rather than "minimalist".

Again, congrats on such a solid entry (made in very little time?) that oozes style!

Very cool and polished game.

Normally I'd want to write a couple paragraphs of feedback, but here I have a lot of things to say about a lot of different things, so here's a list instead:

  • I wish you could see your best results for each level on the level select screen. Also, on the results screen it says, "Time Left", but the time it shows seems to be the time you took to complete the level rather than the time left on the timer.
  • Cat boss fight is cute. Seeing it in the last level as a regular enemy was cool.
  • Enemies overall have a weird but cute style. It's quite nice.
  • Good variety of upgrades. I like how there were upgrades to your fire breath that were optional but useful.
  • Super jump feels a little short. Barely feels like an upgrade.
  • Normal arrows and super arrows being selected separately. Feels odd; I get that they use different amounts of ammo, but the separation made it a bit more annoying to switch between arrows and bombs. Might be a control scheme issue though, I had the weapon switch button set to select on my controller, and that wasn't a particularly comfortable.
  • You can traverse lava pretty trivially without taking damage by jumping quickly after falling in. Might be intentional?
  • Barely finished level 3 within the time limit. I had about 30 seconds left Boss went down surprisingly quick to super arrows (only 2 shots). While it did feel cool, some of that time was spent just wandering around the map hoping to stumble the only route the I had not yet taken near the end. I feel like having a map would alleviate this somewhat, particularly for larger maps where there's a lot more area to search over. It might not be necessary though, since each mission is pretty short overall.
  • Camera feels a bit zoomed in; it's especially hard to see what's going on vertically. Makes navigating downwards a bit of a hassle.
  • Would be nice if you could double check what an ability does in the pause screen. On level 4 I got the cloak, and I forgot what it did for a second since I hadn't seen it since the tutorial.
  • Music is cool and low-key. Strikes a nice balance between chill and energetic. It seems like there's a bug sometimes where it doesn't loop though. Also, it feels odd that the music always restarts after unpausing the game.
  • The levels overall were pretty fun. They provided a nice enough challenge while still feeling reasonable within the time limit.

Overall, it was very fun. Would play more.

pretty cool, especially arts , i only wished that enemies died in a room not appears again on return.

The art style is phenomanel and also respect that you coded everything "from scratch".

The only thing that bothered me was, that I could not use the keyboard, there the game would not start upon pressing enter. Also the timer doesnt really add anything to the game. The Game already is interesting enough without the timer. I dont see why limiting the time for the player is useful, since it just complicates exploring the game world.

Still: very cool game!

Really solid game! The concept of a collection of mini-metroidvanias is really creative and each of the missions were pretty well designed and fun to complete.

My main gripe is with the camera behavior when moving downwards - it was really bad and would in some cases end up several tiles above the platform I was supposed to be jumping towards forcing a completely blind jump. A way to manually look down would've been much appreciated!
