Nice work! I’m so thankful for gamepad, I was miserable on keyboard! Definitely challenging and I had to fight wanting to direct the ball and think to point were I want to go but once I got it, the flow was great!
thank you!! i'm really glad you were able to play the game, especially with so little time before the rating period, haha! now that the jam's over, i'm gonna get to work on making sure you won't have to fight to direct the ball anymore :)
very much appreciate the rating! :D
Yeah, I was really rushing at the end to make sure I rated it! One thing I forgot, and I’m not 100% what it was but I tried clicking to speed past the splash screen and I think it opened your website and then the game again (I might have double clicked) so initially the game ran really poorly and I thought the audio was screwed up but it was just because there was a second one running.
And, for clarity, I do think the controls work, I just had to get used to them (though maybe my thoughts would change if I played it for a few hours instead of a few minutes).
This was really hard! The ramp from the tutorial to the first level was very steep. I was able to kind of get the hang of the bounce and launch mechanic and I really think there is something cool there but at times the launch seemed inconsistent. I'm guessing that was me missing something about how it works. I think the main things here are tuning the levels and challenges and providing a slower ramp up. Great job over all!
thank you for playing! i'll absolutely try to tune the difficulty curve a lot more after the jam, haha. appreciate the rating regardless :3
gave me more trouble than silksong, love it :D hope you get around to giving it some polish to make it slightly more accessible!
what is the game you mention in the description that you were inspired by? Don't think I'm familiar but would love to check it out :)
thank you so much for playing! and yes, going back to make the game more accessible is one of the first things i plan to do after the jam, haha :)
my main inspiration was Super Mario 63, but I was also loosely inspired by games like Fancy Pants and the Last Legacy series! ^^ i'm a big fan of all of those games
The controls feel very "unique", I really like the bouncing!
The music looks great, the art is nice and the controls seem simple enough.
I got a little stuck right at the beginning because i didn't know that i was supposed to press W to keep bouncing
Also, the instructions seem "bugged" because i had to keep jumping to see the characters behind something that looked like "a mask" (?) maybe a shader issue ? I got some shader issues with my 4.5 godot build as well.
Anyways, this game looks great!
Congrats on the submission!
aw, sorry to hear you've been having issues! the positioning on the tutorial text needs some work, but the masks should be working fine, might be something i need to look into :P
still, thank you so much for playing, and for the kind words as well! i'll definitely work on improving the tutorial later on :)
This is one of my favorites, what a cool way to control a character! It took me some time to wrap around my head around how it plays, but after some practice I can say it works really well, it's really fun to bounce around and its great to see an entire movement system thats built for momentum. I also adore the Yoshi's Island look and the music has that free spirit vibe that suits the game so well. Very cool!
it makes me very happy to hear you were able to have so much fun with it! i really enjoy bouncing around, and more than anything i want everyone to be able to feel the fun i did. i'll try to flatten the learning curve a bit later on, either way thank you so much for playing ^^
and thank you for the compliments on the art and music! i'm really proud of them both :3
Fun gam jam gam
peak review
I am actually gonna write a review just cause, I think this game is a blast when you understand how it works, even if the physics aren’t ideal. Bouncing around is just super satisfying. I will say, the controls definitely need work though, I found myself occasionally doing the wrong thing even once I had somewhat gotten the game down.
The music is amazing. I don’t even have anything else to say about that it’s just amazing.
Graphics look really nice, was cool to learn about some of the things done to make the graphics better.
Anyway yea like I said fun gam jam gam I would love to see this as a full gam
I really like y2k aesthetic, mechanics are also fire, but it is really complex for me. I did studied them, grabbed like 8 clovers or so, but some more tutorial levels would not hurt. Actually got stuck on like 1st minute of the game for 10 minutes because I haven't understand that you have to press UP key to bounce...
Also In water levels I feel uncomfortable, because it's like too out of control for me (maybe my bad) :p Yeah I wrote down a lot of criticism, but this game is actually banger, it's like 2 hours of gameplay for 18/18 clovers (I played for like 1 hour to get 8 clovers). Then wandered to your web-page portfolio or so, and it's also so beautiful y2k style, love this!
yeah, we didn't spend enough time on the tutorial, haha :P will definitely work on that more after the jam rating period is over!
very happy you recognize the style, i'm a huge fan of it myself! :) and yeah, im surprised at how much content we managed to pack into this game. thank you so much for playing!
this is such a cute game! i took a couple moments to figure out how the bounce mechanic work but once i got it it felt pretty good! you have a great eye for platformers
thank you so much!! im very happy you enjoyed, and yes, i love making platformers :3
Very unique platformer
The graphics and the music were quite good (although I am curious what is being sung in that song... I was hearing something that is problem not quite right)
The bouncing mechanics took some getting used but it was interesting way to incorporating momentum.
Thanks for submitting
it's vocal chops, so the lyrics don't really mean anything, haha ^^
if you take it literally, they're singing "For- I- (S)ay- I- From- (S)ay"
im glad you found the idea unique, i'll definitely try to refine the mechanics more after the jam, thanks for playing! :3
Actually peak, aside from feeling like my shoes are made of banana peels, and my double jump depending on vertical speed. And the fact that 2 clovers don't load properly. Great job!
thank you for playing! i was unfortunately asleep when you played, so i couldn't watch your stream, but i'm very glad you enjoyed it.
i'm planning to do a bunch of updates to the physics after the review period is over, so hopefully i'll be able to fix all of the issues you mentioned ^^
Arghh i played it day 1 but forgot to leave a review!
Anyway i absolutely love everything about this : music, movement, the art ! Haven't fully completed it yet but it feels like there's something hidden around every corner !
I feel the need to come-back to 100% it, this is amazingly well made ^^ great job!!
thank you so much for playing!! i'm really happy you enjoyed it :)
sadly, the game can't be 100%'d yet due to bugs, but i'm glad you enjoy the game enough to go for full completion! i'll try to get an update out after the review period ends :3
Really cool mechanics at play here, and it's nice someone other than me made a platformer where you bounce around ;)
If you're gonna work on it past the game jam, I think the tutorial needs to ease the player in more. The ball mechanics are hard to wrap your head around and I got stuck in a few places until I understood what it's trying to tell me.
The camera also whips back and forth too quickly, and the parallax background also moves around too quickly which is a bit distracting. The part near the end of the tutorial where you can fall back in the water is evil, because I fell in it like 4 times trying to bounce to the top left.
I also had some issues with the bounce mechanic, sometimes when you let go it launches you backward, but sometimes I let go and nothing happens. It wasn't super clear why or when that happens. This game can be awesome with a bit of polish!
thank you for such in-depth feedback! i'm absolutely going to work on this game after the jam ^^
the tutorial was one of the last things to be added, as well as its text, so its high up on the list for things to tackle. i'm thinking of adding an extra section specifically to let the player get familiar with how the ball works before throwing them into platforming, and the camera is also planned to be tweaked as a friend of mine had issues with it too. good catch on the parallax! i'll make sure to give that part some attention.
the bounce mechanic is the main thing to be tweaked, i'm going to try and make it way more predictable, i think the ambiguity is one of the biggest problems with the game right now. once again, really appreciate all the feedback and thanks so much for taking the time to play!
Uh this is a hidden gem. I worry the very first obstacle is making players quit the game. For me the press x text is out of screen unless I jump up and also I managed to jump over the first tree without the ball, which made me think I was not missing any mechanic (the ball) only to be stuck in the next section then.
The bouncing is really fun, even if difficult. Good job on this game!
yeah!! i really should have been more careful with the positioning of the tutorial text... thank you for pointing that out :)
i'm really happy you enjoyed the game, i put a lot of work into it ^^
Hard to figure out the controls even with the instructions :( but super fun and challenging once I understood you need to point the stick the way you want to go while holding the ball...
Very challenging though, momentum maybe doesn't quite work reliably enough?
I got 1 clover!
understandable! i'll make sure to put a lot of work into the controls in particular, they seem to be a common sticking point with people playing this game. greatly appreciate the feedback :3
probably could put a hint in the jam page for now to help ppl out ;)
A bit of polish on the controls and you could have something really special here. Underwater movement especially felt great, which is a hard ask in a platformer.
tysm!! watching you play the game was a huge help, i will definitely try to iterate on the physics a lot more once i'm able :)
I took some more time with it last night and was able to get a few more of the collectibles. I hope you keep working at this one, I really love quirky platformers like this.
