Cool game reminds me of Skidmarks on old computer amiga and on 16bit consoles (megadrive/genesis) :)

I really like the idea but the execution was unpolished and the controls should have been more mouse based

I made 19 laps in the time. Chasing 5:00 laps I think is impossible.
Well designed game. The grass was suitably punishing compared to the track and the car handled mostly consistently. At times I felt I was hitting invisible walls, initially, until I learned the expected path. Trying to reverse into the pit was prevented for example, and I recall trying to follow the little yellow lines in the other way because they were acting as an invisible wall. But on my next playthrough I could drive right over them.
I never get round to requiring the player to refuel, maybe this was a last minute addition here? Anyway, you made it not feel like the chore that makes me not want to implement it.
Reversing into the pit should've been the only "invisible wall". I did run into a similar issue though, where sometimes the player would suddenly slow when it shouldn't, but I wasn't able to reproduce it.
With the pit, you're supposed to drive in from the left side (where the sign is pointing), and it should assist in steering if you're pressing A or D. The fuel used to be so much more punishing, but my younger brother despised it so I made the penalty much less severe.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback!
Best lap time: 5.50. Anyone else? I think if someone could control two cars at the same time with both their hands that would beat my time, but anything else: I don't think so hombre.
Hay another 2 player game, cool :D The tire tracks on the grass was a nice touch! I'd maybe shrink the cars just a bit, they felt a little big compared to the track.
Thanks! I drew over the map with a tilemap using 8x8 pixel tiles, then hid the tilemap. I referenced a custom property/index of the tile below the player inside the function to apply friction. It was pretty easy to setup, but tedious to paint over the map. I had hoped to add an auto-tiling method to place the tiles for me, but it ended up being faster to do it manually. I also had it setup for ice, but didn't get around to making the winter map that I had originally planned to make as a third map.
The most missing feature is audio, sad you didn’t get the time to add engine sound. The driving controls felt really smooth
Cool racing game.
I like how you made driving physics effect, especially drifting. Did you use any specific feature of godot?
Local co-op is cool idea for this kind of the game, although I think collision between players could add some spicy to the game.
Lack of music and sound effects is something to improve, would love to hear some nice engine sound in this kind of game.
Congratulations on your submission!
Thanks for the comment! Most of the player physics is manually coded. I based some of the physics on a youtube tutorial I saw, and some of it was just adjusted until it felt right. Player collisions were initially planned, but were removed since the players were getting stuck together. And yeah, I ran out of time to add sounds, which I was pretty bummed about.
A fun top down racing game, reminds me of some of the flash games I would play in school.
