Theme interpretation and application
We used the theme in our main portion, the "game" Fantasia is atari styled, using how those games were originally made, along with very simple controls!

very clever, after a few minutes playing I was wishing I could remove the crt effect though as I found it painful after the first few minutes,  but a really inventive great entry

Developer(+1)

thank you! yeah the effect is alot I've noticed, unity was odd cause in our playtesting it was fine, but then once we built the game it looked like that and we ran out of time to fix ;-;

def something we wanna fix first!!! thanks for the lovely feedback <3

When I loaded the game, I almost immediately stood up and was unable to continue using the TV.  I explored the room a bit but it was far to dark to see in a couple places.  Then I went to the door and I got the credits?  Vibes are immaculate and I appreciate the unique controls for the "point-and-click" type gameplay you were going for.

thanks for the feedback! that's a bit odd though, you should be able to go back into the game, also yeah the ending door was kinda unlocked (oops) ;-;

def wanna patch some things to make things more readable, also gonna look into that to see what's going on there!

Wow, congrats I was really not expecting that. Very cool concept and realization. Also the shader is AMAZING, truly well done :)

This is a very cool idea that I enjoyed playing and has hidden depths. That first time stepping out of the game into the real world was a 'wow' moment as I hadn't looked at your page or any of screenshots beforehand - ideally it would be a surprise for everyone!

There are some bugs with interactions in the real world - I didn't seem to be able to click on some things that looked like interactables and others seemed to have their hitboxes misaligned. I really wish I could have used the mouse to move the cursor to be honest.

The CRT effect maybe needs to be toned down a little as I found it a bit overwhelming after a while and it's sometimes difficult to parse text and icons in the video game because of it. I liked the puzzles in the video game (sokoban metroidvania!) and they felt like they were balanced pretty well. There was at least one time though where it felt like a block should be able to fit somewhere it couldn't and sometimes there was a delay in moving a block like it was getting momentarily stuck.

I think with some polish this has a lot of potential.

omg thank you so much! yeah I totally get the issues, we had alot of plans and with the holidays and all coming we just ran out of dev time for some plans, so its def a bit buggy aha, thanks for the amazing feedback, I noticed that crt is a big issue so def a fix we wanna patch in after the holidays <3

also yeah, I noticed some issues with movement, we def gonna try to patch some stuff up, I really wanna dive into this fully, we have alot of plans and from the feedback alot of people like this, and im so glad!!

thanks for the amazing feedback and kind words! if we do go make a full version I hope you follow along and may enjoy it once it comes out ^^

Hey guys: as of now I am not able to play the game, since I don't get any graphics shown in firefox and in Chrome the game wont stop loading. Is there any fix or hint to it?

Submitted(+1)

I'm encountering this same issue, too.

Developer

hello! hmm that's odd? I know on chrome it takes a bit to load, at least from my testing? also with firefox i looked through unity forums and I saw this:

"Type this in the firefox searchbar about:config and search for
security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy It is true by default, you can set it to false.

“If you do development with local files and need to be able to retrieve other local files, you may need to set this preference to false. Otherwise, leaving it set to true offers the most security”

Maybe this helps. at least it helped me."

idk why if its just a unity thing or if its something on our end but its something we'll look into for sure, if this doesnt work let me know ill see what I can do, super sorry ;-;

Really good job at guiding the player the right way, after I got the pull power-up, I thought I just swapped it out, but the next room explaining it was smart. Also in the flashing room when it tells you to pause and it zooms out, I was like OMG!! What a reveal! It was some Grade-A showmanship! It was a little cumbersome to walk around the room with the point-and-click style and I did sequence break a little with being able to grab the mirror and pages sooner than expected, but including the diary and trying to understand why Delilah made the puzzles more personal than just "go up, down, than left" which a whole new layer of enjoyment from the game.

The collision was a little frustrating, some blocks looked like they could be pushed/pulled but wouldn't fit some times when I loaded into a room, and other times I got stuck along a smooth wall and had to redo the Naga room a lot. The game was super bright and hard to make some stuff out, but the minimal Atari graphics made it manageable, so great job tying the theme into functionality! Also the room getting changed via the game was a little paranormal element I wasn't expecting, maybe the player having to puzzle together that the room  was the same as the one you're in and having to manually move the bed in real life could have bridged that for me, but perhaps there's an element to the story I missed with that.

I'd love to see an expansion on the parallels to understanding the developer character to solve their puzzles in-game if a continuation of the project happens or a sequel!

Developer

omg yess tysm, and the feedback is great! also that's fair, it was a bit buggy near the end, as we had to scrap a few things and ideas before we could finish, def wanna do more with the puzzles that dive into Delilah :D

we got a whole plot and everything so def wanna expand on a "full version" since we wanted to do more with the game to real world interactions! (also tweak some bugs we noticed people have like the bright screen and the collision issues) thanks for the amazing feedback!! it means alot and im super glad you enjoyed alot!! also being honest too, its nice to get good feedback :)

A very unique and spooky idea that's sadly being significantly held back by bugs in the "real world" side of the game and the puzzles being "slightly" too obscure for the average player (me). I had to look at the comments to figure out what I was supposed to do, and even knowing it, it was hard to execute due to problems like:

  • the hitboxes for the various interactables being misaligned with their visual location
  • interactables overlapping with each other (trying to turn around but interacting with an object instead)
  • parts of the room being very dark (not sure if intended or not, but the whole area with Froggy was basically completely black for me and I only found him by randomly clicking around, thinking he was just an easter egg due to being hidden in pitch darkness).

I know this might be a big change to implement at this point, but honestly I think the "real world" side of the game could benefit from just letting you move freely in 3D instead of the "old school" step-by-step movement (which also had its share of bugs, like being able to stand inside the bed or the PC after moving them in the Atari game).

Like the comments mentioned, the ending was actually unlocked from the start and I stumbled upon it pretty early on, again thinking it was just an annoying easter egg that froze the game. But, I think the intention was to have the spiral room in Atari reflect through the mirror shard and onto the real world door, thus unlocking the portal to Fantasia?

Even with all these issues, I still had a lot of fun piecing together the story from the notes and the game, and I think the unintended sequence breaking might have even added to the experience (like working out the events backwards from the ending). If the implication of the ending is that we can be reunited with Delilah in some way inside Fantasia, then that's a really cool and bittersweet conclusion, too!

Also, I liked the Naga "boss fight" a lot, it was a cool twist on the "Lost Woods" trope. Overall, a very cool concept that I'm definitely excited to see polished!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Yes that's totally understandable with the bugs, completely lost track of time to fully polish, plus we only had one programmer for the whole thing, as I'm not too knowledgeable with unity ;-;

It's definitely something we wanna do after the jam for sure!! As for the darkness yea, we wanted to include some outline to help as well but uh time caught up to us aha

Hmm, we'll definitely think on that for the full deal, we originally wanted multiple rooms and make the games vibe feel like those old PC point and clicks, but we'll do more play testing with people and go from there on this or just free roam 🤔

(Also glad someone pieced the lore well, great work detective aha ;) )

Thank you so much again for the feedback, I'm super happy you enjoyed this! And the bugs are already things we wanna work on after the holidays 😎

Really liked the fresh idea of a game inside another game,  both modes were fun really fun! TV screen was sometimes too bright and some block pushing puzzles were unintuitive, but overall it was a cool experience

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much! we had alot of fun making this and really wanted to do some fun things with the concept!

Yeah i totally agree, the light on the tv is a biiiit too bright to read some things, also for the puzzles yeah we had plans but alot of bugs made us had to dumb down some of it near the end ;-;

def adjustments were gonna add when we work more on this! tysm for the feedback <3
