I love the aesthetics of the game world which made the cutscene look lively and dramatic, especially when peeking at the fireplace.
The person breathing behind the door and door squeak sounds were a signal to me that this was going to end badly.
Anyway, the story I feel is lacking just a little bit because all this scene is about is the note flying into the fireplace as it's going to burn down.
There probably should have been a character or some creature/beast that takes the note as soon as the person walks in and throws the note into the fireplace, while potentially including some dialogue before and after they're done throwing the note at the fireplace.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting! Yes, I agree that the script decision might have given the player a better understanding of what was happening. However, this is a bigger and more complex task in the frame, so I will continue to develop my skills!
Thanks! :)
Whoa dude! The presentation is really high quality here! The models and animation are nice, and the soundscape really fits the mood, but the best part is the camera work- the camera setup creates interesting picture, but it readable all the time! Good work on that!
One thing I would change- the shader used to "burn" the paper looks more like dissolving than burning. Maybe some smoke particles would help?
The cutscene itself looks like something from a middle of the game, or a part of an ending. In that context it looks fine, but seeing it by itself leaves questions. Who is this guy? What was on the piece of paper?
Over all- definitely one of the best looking submissions!
Thank you very much for the feedback! It really motivates me to learn and develop further!
Hey, I'm gathering final feedback before the jam closes.
I really appreciated your project, especially because you used Unreal. I would only improve the model layout, but otherwise masterpiece. If you have time for a short narrative scene, your opinion would be super helpful.
Thank you for watching!
Your zip file is named FiveSecondsTooLate and the main menu also says Five Seconds Too Late. The game name is nowhere in the game ๐ !
That being said, I liked the visuals, and the audio went well too. The crackles of the fire, the footsteps and the BG music tied nicely together. The message was quite simple, but that's not to say it wasn't good!
Overall, quite a calm enjoyable experience.
The name of the game came up while designing the page on itch io. That's why there's such a small twist :)
Thank you for your feedback!
Very brave to pick the 3D engine as Unreal for this game jam, so I appreciate the effort.
Your scene is minimalistic, but you have nice visuals and understandable storytelling accompanied by solid sound design.
What I, as a viewer, do not understand is why the document is important - it's probably more than yet another electricity or utility bill from the reaction of the hero.
Nice models, nice work with the camera, I would like to see more :)
Thank you for your feedback, it means a lot to me! A piece of paper is an important document! It could be a love letter, an important contract, or just an electricity bill :))
Actually, it takes more time to tell a longer story! However, I am already writing my own story in my own projects, so I hope to see you on Steam.
First of all: Nice cutscene. The visuals look good and the audio is calm, yet fitting. It is a short scene, that definitely fits the theme! However, as others already stated: Performance....more than 1 GB for such a short scene means something is not 'good'. For future jams try to resolve this problem as web builds usually get much more views and ratings.
Still: Good job!
Thank you for your feedback!
Yes... performance is an issue with assets and there is not enough time for quality optimisation. Unfortunately, the web format is not possible. Epic Games removed web support several years ago.
Absolutely loved the sound design in this one! The squishy carpet footsteps, muffled rain, and crackling of the fire place set the scene perfectly and feel very realistic. 5/5 for audio imo. The visuals are solid, although the overall environment/props feel a bit generic. There were some cool camera angles and cinematography choices too, the zoom in on the fireplace was a really nice shot and looked super cool. As the other comment said, it could be a bit more optimized as the file size is quite large and the cutscene suffers from lag/stuttering quite a bit (I'm not familiar with Unreal Engine so not sure how feasible that would be. I'm not sure if I missed key scenes due to the shuttering, but I couldn't really understand the theme application. That being said, congrats on the submission, and amazing job with the audio! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you for watching! The optimisation process is a bit more complicated and time-consuming, unfortunately. Finding or creating the necessary assets was also a challenge for me, so they may vary.
However, thank you for your feedback!
Hi there,
Thank you for your feedback on the sound design. This is essentially my first attempt at this kind of work. I'm glad that people liked it. Could you please tell me if there are any areas that could be improved in future projects in you opinion? Thanks in advance!
The main areas of improvement I would suggest is to improve the optimization so that the scene does not lag and stutter so much, and maybe to have a more clear story progression as opposed to just shots of the scenery. Good entry though!!
theres not much story in this but i like the visuals
they where really good but at that cost it didnt really preform that well for me so most of the audio was delayed but this is unreal so im not surprised
nice job!
Thank you for watching!
