Wow! What a complete and fun game! I love the audio design, the sprites, and the UI is slick!
Really fun little game, the boss was really fun and had a nice difficulty and fun patterns of attacks and mechanics for the blue and green waves which needed to be shielded with the right colour shield. Top tier UI for a game jam and nice music!
The waves of basic enemies could be improved with having some weaker versions of the bosses blue/green attacks or some elite enemies which have a cut-down subset of the bosses attacks to teach the player as they play before getting to the boss, also the basic enemies occasionally seemed to get stuck / stop moving. I beat the boss and got a high score of 15,950, however there wasn't an option to add my name to the leaderboard of high scores, and my score wasn't represented in the high scores list.
Overall a really great game. Sound, art, visuals all really well done. Player control was smooth. I personally would have liked it to be a bit harder, basic enemies were little to no threat at all. The boss fight was REALLY good. Can you give some of that juice into the basic enemies? All that said, this is one of the best games i got to play and rate so far this Jam, i really liked everything about it!!
Phenomenal execution, with top-tier music! It also feels super smooth, not exactly sure why.
Great game! Sound design and UI were outstanding and the controls are smooth and respond really well. It all felt very impressive and professional.
Although I think the color coded shields are a pretty interesting mechanic, it ended up no working so much for me AT FIRST, because I couldnt remember quickly which mouse button activated the green shield and which activated the blue one, but I could beat the game without them since movement is so good in this game.
I then was able to beat the game using the shields and I didnt realize that I was building up this super blast thing and it was SO cool that that blast happened to be the one that killed the boss! I think a short tutorial explaining all of those little mechanics would make the whole experience even more enjoyable. Amazing entry!
that was great! loved the sound design. gameplay was interesting, the different shields is nice addition to the mental stack
The gameplay system turned out to be fun; you really pulled the game together nicely—congrats. I had fun, the music was good and set the vibe, and the boss fight was good too.
Anyway, congrats on completing the game on time.
Holy moly, this was awesome! The size of the dev team was absolutely put to good use :)
I would absolutely pay for and play the full version of this sometime, especially so that I could try some more challenging levels. As a Level 1, the current difficulty of the game makes sense- though for a jam release, it could probably have been tuned up a fair bit. Zero criticism about the game being short though, I understand that's just a jam time limit thing- what's there now is fantastic!
The UI and art was great, I loved the portrait artwork in the dialogue parts as well, and the 3D perspective after beating the boss was awesome (I couldn't tell if that was being rendered or was just an artwork, but I really liked it either way)! I did notice that the score screen at the end of the level was filled quite slowly for how many "Enemy destroyed" entries there were, but given it's the end of the game for now that's a pretty insignificant issue to have.
The whole game reminded me a lot of Picayune Dreams, but the shield/wave mechanic was definitely its own thing and a really cool interpretation of the jam theme. The music was very reminiscent of that game as well, in a really good way! I actually dug through your repo to find the music so I could listen to it again lol
Overall loved it :))) Would love to keep track of this game if it keeps growing. As everyone else has said, super polished, extremely impressive for a jam like this- I wish it had more eyes on it, but the curse of the downloadable entry is eternal and infuriating :(
The amount of polish is staggering, and the music connects so well with art that it's unbelievable for a jam entry!
Special grats to the guy who did the UI
Things that need improvement are the AI and programming (e.g., around wave 10 of endless mode, the enemies are off-screen, I think, and unkillable, but they die after some time? IDK what happened)
I felt the waves to be far too short and didn't feel challenged; only the boss provided the actual fun of the very nice gameplay.
Ponder on these and then, if u want, I can see it on steam for sure!
the boss battle, chefs kiss man! took me a second to get used to the movement but this is a well polished game, great job! loved the music and the lore too
I did notice the enemies kind of got stuck to each other sometimes, but thats way over shadowed by just how awesome the game felt!
again great job!
Very polished entry. I liked the attention to detail in all the components. Sounds felt very visceral, cinematic transitions, menu screen etc.
One thing is that I was thrown immediately into the action, and thus didn’t even realise i had multi colored shields until the boss started throwing different colored lazers at me.
Overall I think this is a very solid entry with lots of potential as a full release game should the team decide to put the hard yards in and expand and polish this idea further.
Great work all!
Wow! Super polished, great overall but the UI is superb. It's super snappy, responsive, satisfying. Even the main menu has a super satisfying sound when hovering. It really sets the impression of high quality for the whole game.
It looks fantastic, the UI is like a work of art.
The combat feels good to play, although the waves before the boss are very easy and short. I loved the boss fight! Needing to change between green shield and blue shield was really cool and the nice cutscene before it. I wish the whole game was like the boss fight, it was honestly great!
Wow that was a beautiful game. The main character 3d model was cool and the menu was fantastic reminds me of something out of like persona. Also whoever did the music nailed it I can see why you kept saying turn up the music. Boss specific music is super cool. The gameplay was a fun idea kind of a unique take on the galaga/bullethell thing with the movement. The enemy Ai kind of glitched which in it's own way was pretty amusing watching it like stare at a wall. But enemy AI in a game jam is always a crazy lift. The boss worked pretty well and has clean AI and multiple attack patterns and was pretty brutal. Absorbing my shots was an interesting shift as usually player weapons do that. I feel the controls were a tad bit over designed. Holding space was a bit tiring and the colored shields didn't matter much but I could see the vision and how they could matter if the game got a lot more chaotic. The upgrade system is a cool idea, a little of the roguelite blood coming in and I always appreciate when upgrades are tracked at the side. The whole thing had a bunch of super polished and professional elements and overall this is a huge amount of really solid work and it made for a really enjoyable run. Great job!
PS: I never got a super wave I'm not sure how to load that bar up, maybe it was blocking?
Thank you for the kind words and the feedback!
You're correct getting the super wave requires blocking the blue and green attacks with the correct shield. It gives you one use of the Boss's big red attack. It definitely needed to be tutorialized!
I like the concept and graphics
I don't know what to say. The only criticism I have is that all the UI and everything coming at you may be a bit too hectic, and there could be a tutorial or something to ease into the chaos, but apart from that I love everything about it. The graphics, and especially the UI are amazing. The audio is phenomenal. It's super fun to play. Cool story, dialogue, cool concept, pretty much everything has been executed immensely well. Great atmosphere as well which is in my opinion the most important part. Easy 5 stars.
