Description
The genre is some kind of synth orchestral combination... (i'm not really sure how to label it)

The imaginary game is a puzzle RPG with the following premise: A trio of scientists wander out to sea following a strange treasure map, however what they actually find at the marked location is an ancient structure located somewhere in the middle of the ocean, with a staircase right at the center. This staircase leads into a space seemingly separated off from the rest of the world. On a pillar at the entrance reads the words "TAKE THE CHALLENGE AND YOU MAY DISCOVER INFINITE POWER". Before they get a chance to contemplate these words, a whirlpool engulfs them and they are washed down the staircase. The game would follow their escape and quest to discover more about these words, as well as the way they fend off bad actors that wish to do bad with this power.

The first track (Title) is a bit self explanatory, maybe it can be played on the title screen as some sort of opening sequence plays in the background.

The second track (Encounter) gives off a more sinister feeling, so it can be played during the main villain's interactions with the protagonist trio.

I used REAPER for composition, and two effects I made use of quite a lot was Native Instruments' Raum and Replika. They were super easy to work with, and were on many instruments to make a lot of instruments sound even larger.

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
To give off a feeling of a large, vast ocean, lots of delay/reverb/echo effects were used. In addition, the second song used some odd time signatures, which was an attempt to make the song just a bit more unpredictable, kind of like waves on the sea.

I was not expecting this many comments 😭; Seeing as I'm between semesters of school right now and have more time to revisit previous projects, I'll try to answer any questions. Thank you for listening!

These were quite good! I liked all the instruments you used and it was quite catchy. The percussion was my favorite part it was very well done.

I like the mysterious, dark vibe. The melodic line in Encounter is memorable, and the transitions between sections are smooth. The mix could be a little less hot, but overall it’s great work!

Opener has some great progression to it, feels like a journey for sure. I love the creativity in some of the piano melody throughout.

Track 2 is awesome. Really feels like a prog rock track, but without the need for any guitars. It did evoke the ocean for me a bit too, which is cool. I especially love the sound of the drums on it...that snare goes hard and the drums stay interesting throughout.

I guess my criticisms would be that it's only the two tracks so it's a bit hard to fully get a story across, but each track does go places so, it's not like it's totally lacking in that area or anything. There are also a couple of transitions that were slightly too abrasive for me, but I'm really nitpicking.

Enjoyed it a lot! Especially track 2.

Thanks! I get what you're talking about with the transitions, it is definitely a weak point of mine. In that regard, I gotta disagree with you ever so slightly when you say the "drums stay interesting throughout" since I definitely feel like I reused the same drum fill a bit too many times in Track 2 😅

this feels super spacey and mystical. i don't hear this sort of rock/electronic crossover pulled off as well as this very often. can think of a million contexts where this would make sense for pieces of an OST. thanks for sharing!

OH that soundtrack hit. My favorite one of the two is the title track personally, that mallet sound you have is so so so nice! Amazing work!

"Encounter" got me swaying like a blade of grass.

Very nice groove, juiciest bass especially in Encounter, what did you use for that I'm curious !?

Developer

Thank you!

The bass is a patch from SampleTank 4 (to be specific it's contained in the libraries from SampleTank 3, which were loaded into SampleTank 4) called "Classic chorus bass".

Feels like something right up my alley! Great mastering and I loved all the piano usage! What did you use to have these juicy bass keys?

Developer

Thanks!

In the first track, the pluck sound in the beginning is just an instance of Vital ran through a bitcrusher. The main piano used throughout the song is Addictive Keys (Studio Grand)! Later in the song, the same piano is being used, just ran through a buncha effects, plus another bitcrush.

In the second track, the piano being used there is also Addictive Keys, and the main 2 instruments are the "Tremelo Organ" from the Roland SC-8820, and a patch from SampleTank 4 called "Space Glockenspiel".
