Developer

This really felt like playing an old game on a game boy. You hit the spot with graphics, soundeffects and overall gameplay. Keep up the good work :)

Developer

thanks I’ll try my best to keep up the good work

You really nailed the GameBoy look, even better than I did lol! I really enjoyed the game and it kinda reminded me of playing Bubble Bobble back in the day, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks I stayed true to the four color palette limit of the gameboy. Also happy to hear that it reminds you of bubble bobble that game was my biggest inspiration for this project.

Nice!!

Thanks!

Great job! I can really see this being on the gameboy and being a really fun game. I think my only critique is that that a lot of the unique puzzle aspects aren't communicated well, so in the 2nd level I thought it had loaded weird. I think a little sign pointing right would go a long way! Otherwise, wonderful job!

Developer

Thank you for playing. I appreciate the feedback too. A sign giving the player a hint about the screen wrapping is actually a good idea.

Awesome!

Thanks for playing

Great game, had a real classic feel to it.

Thanks for playing

Well done! You somehow managed to make it feel like an improved old Gameboy game. It looks like one but feels much smoother. The graphics are nice and the audio blends it all very well. Great job!

absolutely beautiful, loved it

I appreciate you trying out my game

This is an awesome game! It really made me feel like I was playing old NES games! Very well done on this submission!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing my game

Submitted(+1)

It’s definitely very well done. The addition of a new enemy type in almost every level keeps the game dynamic. I loved it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you

Nice simplistic gameplay. Pretty basic to understand and the game is smooth to play. I do wish that the control key binds were different but that's just a personal preference. You can try out my Gameboy jam submission if you want to.

Developer

Thanks for playing and I will definitely check your game out.

Amazing retro vibe and the controls feel good. The sounds are perfect and I love the level design. The polish work of the death falling, the score, shooting stars like kirby it all works. It's very adorable and I think you could potentially publish this with some more levels and a boss

Developer

I really wanted to add a boss fight at the end I was going to make it a dragon fruit. But sadly I ran out of time.

I loved the gameplay — it really reminded me of the Kirby games — and the beautiful Game Boy–style visuals, not to mention the level design, which is really good.

I have nothing to complain about; the game is amazin

Developer

happy to hear you liked it and thank you for trying out my game

Very nice!  Great retro-inspired art.  Player control feels good.

Developer

thanks

Musically and sprite speaking, it might be one of the games that brought be the most back in that good retro Gameboy era, it's fantastic. Controls are perfect, the bonus stages were a nice surprise, and definitely reminiscent of those times as well. For the "retro" interpretation of the theme "Simpler Times", this might be one of my favorite games!

Developer(+1)

Yeah I really wanted to add a bonus stage to the game I remember arcade games having them so it felt right to add. I tried to stay true to the four color limit of the Gameboy with the sprite.

Submitted

It definitely paid off. Honestly, it's extremely well made, I love it! I definitely found back the good old vibe of the first Kirby games, but with even more smoothness.

Submitted(+1)

Love your game! I see the Kirby elemnts here and thats great!

Developer

Thanks for playing.

OK. THIS ONE ITS MY PERSONAL TOP 1. I LOVE THE KIRBY/SNOW BROS/ARCADE VIBES, ITS SO ENJOYABLE AND INTUITIVE, ITS JUST FEELS SO RIGHT.

And to be honest, I loved it so much that my only "problem" is that it's a very short game, and I'd like to play more of it. I LOVE FROGBOI

(5/5 stars)

Developer(+1)

Happy to hear you like the game I was a fan of your entry. Funny enough I never played snow bros but I heard it's really good.

Things I liked:

- It's very appealing visually, I just like the graphics

- Absolute commitment to the retro style: nothing seems to be out of place

- Unique idea and gameplay mechanic

- Interesting levels and enemy variety that's actually being gradually introduced throughout the game instead of appearing all at once in first level

- Lots of small but satisfying details, like enemies bouncing into each other and score rewarding good play

Things that need improvement in my opinion: I really don't know, unfortunately. It's the most polished one I've seen yet, great job.

Developer

Glad to hear you enjoyed it

Super fun game!

It has a lot of strong points. The style is great, the visuals look really nice, and the sound effects are solid. Everything captures the retro vibe perfectly and fits the game jam theme really well.

The level design is very good. It teaches mechanics in a natural way without the need for a tutorial. For example, level 2 teaches you that you can wrap around the screen edges to the other side. The slow introduction of new enemies is excellent. It’s a simple game, but with each level something new happens, which made me want to keep discovering more.

The enemy variety is great. They look good, are well designed, and each one brings something unique to the gameplay. I really liked how enemies blink before shooting to warn the player.

Swallowing enemies and spitting them at others, and then watching enemies bounce off each other and eliminate themselves, was super satisfying.

The only downside I noticed was the control scheme. I really struggled playing with A, S, D for movement, X for shooting, and Z for jumping. I’d much prefer jump on W and shoot on Space, or jump on Space and shoot with the mouse or something similar. It felt very uncomfortable and hard on my fingers to control everything with one hand.

Overall, a super fun game that offers a lot of enjoyment and can be completed fairly quickly. An ideal game jam project!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing. I am sorry you had trouble with the controls I expected most would use WASD+ J/K and Arrow keys + Z/X. But I never thought about someone could try playing it the way you did so my bad.

Submitted

Oh, got it! I didn’t realize there were alternative control options, that’s on me for not reading it properly, haha. In that case, all good 🙂

I still think WASD + Space would be great for one-handed play, but the current control scheme definitely makes more sense than I initially thought.
Your game is super fun!
