It's fun to face the challenge of finishing the level, although there were moments where the jump between platforms felt like it had to be almost perfect. Even so, it was entertaining and the pixel art is very pretty.
The art is cute but the bat is too dark and hard to see. Like what others have pointed out, the jumping requires a lot of precision which could be a little more lenient with a little more distance.
Pretty nice little game~
There is a jump that is a little too frustrating, but all in all I liked the whole gameplay. I liked the placement of the different items and how you could plan different routes. That was pretty good!
It has a pretty good replay factor to get better scores, congratulations :D
Oh my god it's a rage game, and you got me-- I raged. Those freaking birds that I hate!!! But also I had a lot of fun. The music choice was good-- a fitting bpm to match the urgency of the climb. The art is very cute. I really like your grem sprite and animations :') And the sfx are sooo cute! I ran into that bug though where after I collect the time divide by 2 debuff and the golden boba next to it, the game freezes (Firefox browser). But all in all despite all my rage, I had a lot of fun!! Great stuff, especially for 1.5 days of work!
The best score I got was a HiScore of 9 with 1.85 seconds to spare. I had to lock in really hard on that final platforming sequence.
A cute grem platformer! Grems are so cute. I loved the sprites for the Grem (ESPECIALLY the death animation). I think generally the presentation of the game is solid, with the unique buttons and transition animations. I think little details like the buttons in the volume slider are nice.
I think the gameplay mechanic of modifying the timers are interesting and it seems like it makes the game much more focused on planning and plotting a path over multiple playthroughs. It also tie into the theme of dealines in an interesting way.
However, one thing I noticed is that since most of the more interesting paths that involve timers are optional ones off to the side, I did not have to engage with the mechanic too much in my playthrough. I primarily just made sure to grab the x2 time multipliers as early as possible. This is a bit of a shame since I don't think you are too incentivized to grab most of the extra items and engage with the level mechanics and level design.
I noticed that the game keeps track of the things you need to pick up (I'm not tooooo sure what they are). However, I think if the game acknowledged them a bit more, whether at the start or end, players would be more incentivized to go out of their way and figure out paths to collect them more. Something like an ending/results screen, pre-game screen or something else that names and points out those items will help bring out the level design more. Sometimes just a name for the collectible is enough, or a BS "story" reason.
I did notice that a few people though the game was too difficult. I initially thought so as well, but I eventually got used to it.
I think there are two control things that made it a bit hard to get into the game. Neither of these are deal-breakers or anything but they did make it get a bit harder to get into the game.
1. I found it a bit hard to control the jumps since this game operates on a Castlevania like control scheme where you need to commit to a jump arc. This isn't the worst thing as I got used to it after a while. However, it's still something that makes things a bit harder to get used to the game.
2. The more important issue is that it isn't too clear where the Grem's collision box is. is. I think that controlling a wide character can make for some interesting levels, but as it stands it wasn't too clear where the edge of the Grem is and how far along the platform I can stand before falling.
I think in particular there were a few jumps at the 2nd level that required you to be close to the edge of the platform. I was stuck there for a good bit before I could make it due to not knowing where the Grem's collision box ends.
Otherwise. It's a nicely presented, well scoped little game.
Simple platformer, good visuals, good music, responsive controls, nice. The only thing i didn't like was that specific jump everyone here is commenting about, other than that is a simple, well made game.
Whew, finally managed to make that last super precise jump after around 7 tries. Really hard but the catchy soundtrack helped encourage me to keep going. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who had a hard time seeing the bats though, really gave me a jump scare the first time I got hit by one, haha.
Awesome platformer! Managed to escape after 5 attempts. Don't know what those folks below talking about but the bats were clear as day to me, maybe because I was playing at full brightness on my monitor. But the platforming itself is brutal! There is a jump somewhere at 2/3 of the way that is borderline pixel perfect. Very hard but satisfying to learn the pathway to the top! Cute art style and music choice as well!
It did crash on me a single time randomly, not sure why. Other than that, a solid project! Could be a perfect fit for a rage baiting stream for Gigi or something! Especially if you add more of those hard jumps lmao.
Cute platformer with the grem. As other people have also said, the bats are hard to see due to the lack of contrast with the background. I was getting stuck on the final part because the jump needed requires a near pixel perfect jump in order to get to the next platform. I did manage to complete it, but that jump is hard to do and the fact that you can get knocked off and have to redo that jump. I did freeze once when getting an item, but other than that, good job with the game!
Cute, simple and straight to the point! The bats need to be a bit easier to see imo, but other than that I enjoyed the gameplay.
The bats need to be brighter, though changing the colors used for the game page might help too. Other than that it's hard to tell what the purpose of the items are, and also whether the game has an ending or is just about high score.
Cool game but it consistently crashes as soon as I got the time/2 item so never was able to get very far
Precision Grem platformer was not on my bucket list for this jam but it was an experience!
Barely managed to squeak out a win with like 2 seconds left but i'm taking that to the bank.
Great job on the art, as per usual (not sure if you made the SFX or just found those), and good choice of music to keep the energy going despite having to restart multiple times.
Also do like that you added pickups that have different effects, so you need to try to prioritize or avoid certain ones, and cant just beeline to a timer pickup if you see one.
Cant say much on difficulty, since its supposed to be hard, but it did feel like some of the first jumps required much more precision than the last.
Otherwise good work, and yummy taro boba!
This game is challenging. I was just about to give up and drink all the Boba i collected. But then the Music really kicked it and kept me motivated to try again till i beat it :)
Unfortunately, frequent freezes made the game unbeatable. No errors were logged.
I liked the music and the platforming experience.
It was a bit too challenging for me, though and I got stuck in the same place no matter how many times I retried. Probably skill issue.
I'll have to check someone else's playthrough to see how the game ends and why I'm collecting boba teas on the way up. XD
Fun game, challenging enough to be annoying (in a good way). Feel like the bats are hard to see on my monitor but that's a nitpick.
Cute game! I like the grem and the sounds it makes. The jump feels a little to low at the start but once you get used to it its fine. It is maybe a little too short, you could add more levels to it in the future (if you want to xD) Overrall a good platformer!
Really fun little challenge! I honestly think it could get even harder and still be fine. If the level were longer, it might feel even more truly like a rage game.
The music goes so crazy. Nice game!
