<It's Beautiful I've Looked At This For Five Hours Now>
This is insanely good. Amazing idea for the puzzle mechanic. Last time I was this excited about the game was when I played OneShot and discovered its shenanigans.

Art was fantastic; it fit the vibe really well. The pixelation effect on the room was great art choice, adding that unknown and scary vibe to the game.
The audio was also really good, including music, although the track in the room was getting a little bit repetitive but that's on me for taking so much time to figure out the solution to the puzzle.

The story and the writing are fantastic. I cannot wait for more of it.

As for difficulty, I'm not gonna lie, I had to check the walkthrough to find the last "element" that I was missing. At first, I tried combining items "between windows" and some of them worked, so that got me into searching for more combinations that could solve the puzzle. But in the end, most of them were unused. I suspect that they will be in the future versions.

Now it will live rent-free in my head for a long time. I cannot wait for the full version!

This means alot to me! Thank you for playing!

That was an incredible experience, I’m not a horror fan usually but the ambience was perfect for it, it felt very polished for a jam game. The puzzles were super cool, once I realized how everything worked with the other book it was a great feeling.

I will admit I had to use the walkthrough a few times especially for the time crunch I’m running on, wrapping your head around the gimmick can be rough going through all these games. I’d be willing to invest more time into solutions with a future more-complete title that I can sit down with for longer, though more hints like you’ve mentioned you’d do would be helpful.

The crashes also were a pain because I would constantly forget they would happen every time I reloaded into the scene to test new solutions, but I know that’s been acknowledged and will be fixed.

Great work!

Developer(+1)

No worries on using walkthrough, in fact I'm grateful you've decided to use the walkthrough to see through to the end despite your time crunch! Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Honestly your game did such a good job of investing me and making me want to play that I tried my best not using the walkthrough for longer than I intended to, to try and get as much of the personal experience as I could. I really hope to be able to play a fully complete version in the future!

Submitted(+1)

The ambience is amazing! I love the art and sound, the writing was fantastic too.

I run into some freezes when picking up items and I had to use the walkthrough a lot. Bit more hinting would help a lot.

The idea of the pop-up window was cool, but it was a bit janky to navigate. When I was clicking on the main window, it always switched to the pop-up. It could be an issue on my end, but it was quite annoying.

Still, it's a great entry!

Developer

Yea I saw one play-through where someone was annoyed by the popup forcing focus, this is a great feedback. I'll look into another way so that players can still bring up the popup easily without it focusing every click. Thanks for playing!

Game was amazing, though the only thing that went slightly sullied the expeince, besides the bug,  was  the method of getting the book. At first i thought "Oh the bad end has some  fancy effect line. Cool. Well no need to linger, time to find the good ending"
That being said once i did figure it out (And by figure it out i mean look at the walkthough, yeah sue me.) I was able to peice everything togeather and thought it was really cool. Reminded me a bit of Oneshot with how having double windows.

Cool game! loved it and i'd love to see more like this!

Developer

Ohh that reminds me to try Oneshot out. Thanks for playing!

FULL MARKS!!!

I loved it. The art is great, the story is pretty interesting and the gameplay mechanics are wonderful!

Only caveat I have is... it was quite obtuse. I didn't wait for the portal to open the first time and I would have never found the key in the cutscene. Getting the second wrench may have been a better first task to get the player familiar with the gameplay. (also, a little too dark to see at times)

Still, I loved it and the music really made it feel urgent!

Really great work, the atmosphere was AMAZING!!

PS: The pop-up wasn't full sized at first so I thought I was supposed to move it around to "reveal" secrets, then I saw that I had to maximize it to enter the timeline.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yea, didn't get to spend too much time on designing hints so that the solution is fair for players, which I absolutely should have done. Thanks for playing!

Great atmosphere and storytelling!

The vibes are scary, and this game is peak. Thus, I'm afraid this is peak. I'm a sucker for point-and-click adventures, especially scary ones, so I loved playing this. And your usage of popup windows for the timelines... it's genius. The Temari bgm also fits very well with the aesthetic and urgency of the situation in the game. I kept running into a bug where after I jumped timelines, when I tried to pick up the cloth the game would freeze. Despite that, I really enjoyed playing this. The art, the sound choices, the vibes, the writing-- it's all 10/10 for me. I'm very looking forward to any future updates. Just simply amazing...

Very atmospheric game. The illustrations are great, it felt like flipping the pages in a picture book. And even the settings UI transition looks awesome!

And then I get to the part where the game surprises me with something I've never seen before. Wow! That gimmick with the browser windows is so cool!

Proud to say I managed to reach the ending by myself, even if I had to restart the game three times due to the crash.

Some improvement suggestions (and bugs):

- The game crashed on a null reference exception when I clicked on the toolbox after using the watch to jump. (happened twice, had to reload the browser - using Firefox, if it helps)

- Actually it also happened when picking up the bottle after I used the book.

Amazing game!

Developer

Ohhh if it's null pointer then maybe I might know what I should look for. Thanks for the info, and thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

This was a really unique gimmick - thank you for the walk through because there is no way I would have put two and two together on the timeline mechanics, but I think that just goes to show how inventive it is!

Great job on the art and the models, they're really stellar, and considering that you did all of that, its a wonder there's even this much in the demo to begin with!

And the story is really interesting, would love to just read the script as if it were a novel, in all honesty.

I also encountered the freezing bug, I noticed it had occurred when I picked up the bottle and then the wrench in quick succession after jumping into the timeline, not sure if that might help pin down the pesky thing.

But great work and amazing concept, would be great to see it expanded, if you can find the time after the jam!

Developer(+1)

Included the walkthrough because I didn't think I'd figure it out too lol, I wished I've put in more thought into designing it in a way players could figure it out themselves. Thanks for playing!

very promising demo, even with the bug. The art is good and  mechanic fits the theme. I'm not big on the genre but every piece fits nicely to make something more intriguing. Its a very good slice of what the game could be. Good job!

Now a few tech issues (played on a firefox 146 on linux):

  • as with others, the freezing bug. It does happen a lot more often when picking up the wrench but it happened to me when picking up bottle and broom as well. The bug might be more general than it seems. (it usually freezes 1-2 seconds after picking an object for me)
  • Game objects not appearing on the second instance of the game, only the background is rendered. Fixed it by resizing the window. (This is probably only happens on i3 Window Manager, so not on you. i3 automatically resize any new window on the screen which is not a thing in windows or most linux WM.)
  • the vn section with multiple Ina is a bit confusing. I think the "player" talks when the Ina on the screen fades a bit? unless I got it backwards.

Thank you for playing! Appreciate the detailed report for the freezing issue.

If I ever pick this project back up after jam, I'll prolly rethink the gimmick and ditch webbuild altogether haha.

There should be a name tag on the top left of the dialogue box, unless you are encountering issues where the name tag is not showing up?

Submitted(+1)

yeah there is a name tag but for added clarity you can put the "player Ina's" nametag on the right and other Ina on the left.

unless ofcourse the confusion is part of the design.

Developer

Oh make sense, thanks for the suggestion!

This looks like a really good game but unfortunately, I am unable to finish it. On the browser version, the game will freeze if I timeloop and get the wretch and windows build doesn't load as well.

Maybe there is an infinite loop when trying to load the wretch? I look forward to finishing the game once the jam is over and a fix can be uploaded.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Progress is saved frequently so you may want to reload the page and try again? The freezing is inconsistent, so I haven't been able to pinpoint the root cause unfortunately.

Submitted(+1)

Mine isn't random tho. I'm using the Opera GX browser and it always freezes when getting the wrench after loading the room for the 2nd time. I couldn't get the grate open because reloading the page will reset it. So I got softlocked lol.

Developer

Ohhh good to know. I'll try it on opera GX and see if I can replicate it consistently there. Thanks for letting me know!

Submitted(+1)

This is a really fun game! The puzzles are so creative! I am also glad that the progress saves since it froze sometimes so I had to refresh. I am interested in seeing what happens next if you continue!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Freezing is unfortunate, I'm still lost on how it is happening, since it has been happening anywhere with no consistency. Game dev is an enigma fr.

One of my favourite gimmicks and what a way to make right by the theme with it.

Don’t recommend using the walkthrough, game is plenty comprehensible as is and that bit of head-scratching will be very handsomely rewarded.

The jam version is just the right size to let the concept hit hard without overstaying its welcome, given the current extent of the story. Will definitely check back for more on the latter.

Developer

Thanks for playing and streaming it!

Incredible submission. I am proud to have solved it completely blind. That final "OH!!!!!!!!" when I understood the puzzle was very hype. The visuals in the room were super unique. I'd love to know how you pulled that off. It felt very analogue horror. I did encounter an occasional freezing bug that forced me to reload the page. Thankfully no progress was lost so all is well. I would 1000% play a full game of this!

Developer

Blind completion is insane! Thank you for playing!

Alot of the amazing visual effects are from shaders not written by me, you can find the links in the description page.

this is really good!!! i love the puzzle mechanics here

Developer

Thank you for playing! Browsed some of your stuff as well and they look insanely high quality. I'll prolly take a look at them at some point!

Submitted(+1)

Really good puzzle game, in my opinion. One suggestion though: the first thing you need the book for shouldn't be grabbable outside of the book, at least not until it's mentioned. I got stuck because I was trying to figure out how to use it before getting the book.

Developer

Thanks for playing! That's a pretty valid point I haven't thought about.

Submitted(+1)

LOVE the art direction ! The Illustrations and retro horror aesthetics were immaculate 👌.

(My personal favourite of this jam ;))

Very innovative game for a gamejam! The game kept freezing up for me though, which made it more annoying to play through, but I did get through the game. The only hint I needed from the walkthrough was after getting the watch as I was too busy clicking around that I missed the solution since it required me to stop advancing. I thought everything else was pretty intuitive, though the second window that opens I feel like should be more like a lens and less of another instance of the game because it wasn't great trying to resize it and it eating my inputs on the main game. It's a minor nitpick though. Great job with the idea.

Developer

Thanks for persevering through! Yea multiple others has encountered freezing as well.

Really good points on the windows, if I ever come back to work on this I'd probably do away the whole secondary window altogether and have everything work inside the game screen.
