Overall, really nice project! Great theme and visuals, and very satisfying to play!
I'm not a huge puzzle game player, but that being said, I made it ... I think pretty far into the game, so that's saying something!
My "nice to have" improvements would be:
- A slight UI change to indicate which flower is next on the list after you successfully get one. I know the check marks are at the top, and it's always the same, but for the after yellow I always had to double check which one was next by looking at the top of the screen.
- It was _slightly_ confusing that when a flower is only one move away that it gets larger, when you weren't actively going for that flower, if that makes sense. There was one level where 2 of the flowers (blue and green) were only 1 away from the start, and that was slightly confusing as to why they were larger (this is a SUPER nitpick, I recognize)
- Music was a good fit for the game, but did get repetitive toward the end of my session. Just need another track or two.
- Hint system worked well once I figured out what it was telling me. Might want to remind the player that the hint system exists if they make X amount of moves without progressing.
- Finally, It took me a really long time to realize that every puzzle/level required that every blank square be filled by a Wyrm/worm. Not sure why it took me so long, but it did shift my thinking once I realized it. Maybe there is a way to ... just tell the player that somehow (or maybe I'm just slow/a puzzle player would pick up on this right away).

Overall well done! I'll post my playtest in your project on the discord.

That really hooked me and I played through until the end. I had to use the hints twice. I think the hint system works really well

I really like the theming and art style. I think your font animations are really cool and really fit well. There are a lot of little polish touches everywhere and it all really adds to the game.

Using just the keyboard, it was a bit of a pain navigating around when to start a new body sometimes. Particularly when there are gaps that you can't navigate through because they're not yet filled.

I needed another element of progression as I got towards the end. The directional tiles were cool, but the puzzles didn't really evolve after that.

I found the music a bit frustrating. I find music in games distracting but this felt like it was too simple and too short a loop.

Something I forgot to note is that I felt like I needed more information about the overall progression ie I could see which world-level I was on but not how many levels there were left

amazing game! I left my feedback on the discord!

Was really hooked! Great puzzle game and actually quite challenging at times! Especially the last level of zone 1 took me quite a while. I never tried the Hints feature though. I got to 2-3, but was tempted to go on! Cheers

I was playing the web build on a MacBook, however the game was going black. Specifically, everything is fine until you move a Wyrm, at which point everything other than the (most recent) wyrm goes fully black and invisible.

Unfortunetly this did mean I wasn’t able to play more than a few levels.

That's interesting, thanks for trying! If you don't mind, could you let me know which browser and version of macOS you're on?

Submitted(+2)

I keep forgetting to check what the macOS version is (should be the latest). But it was google chrome that had the issue.

Well done!

Very good work with the aesthetics, art is cute and coherent, sound design is on point and the interactions are juicy.

I'm not much of a puzzle person, so don't have much to add on puzzle design.

As a casual player, difficulty scaling was pretty good.

Regarding input, I prefered playing with the mouse, dragging the paths, I wish holding RMB would undo continously.

A small suggestion for the main menu would be increasing the size of the "Play" button a bit.

Overall, excellent work!

Unfortunately, my recording is very laggy as my laptop apparently could not keep up performance-wise. Sorry about that. The live audio may still be useful even though you don’t quite see the game in real-time.

I am still summarizing my review in writing though:

Initially, the keyboard controls did not work on my keyboard that uses Neo-layout. The gamepad controls work fine though.

The learning curve is really well designed. Especially the first levels had very good pacing to introduce me to the mechanics bit by bit. Every single new level felt like I was learning more about the puzzle mechanics with just the right amount of challenge.

I have to say, that the game already feels quite polished for an early prototype.

It is very useful that the subsequent worms are arranged by colors along the rainbow. Otherwise I would forget the order.

Altogether, I had a lot of fun playing this :)

Thanks so much for the playtest! The lag wasn't an issue as I could hear the audio pretty clearly, and was generally able to keep up with which puzzle you were playing. I'll check out the NEO keyboard issues now that I'm aware of it, thanks! I'm assuming that if we had arrow key support, those would have been OK? Unfortunately there were a few reported bugs with arrow keys so I temporarily disabled them

Submitted

I think arrow keys should have been fine, yes. Generally, the more reliable solution is to bind to physical keys instead of logical keys, especially when you use keys for their position (WASD) instead of their symbol (e.g. M for map, or I for inventory). This should also apply to players with less exotic layouts than mine, like AZERTY which is used in France and Belgium.

Really great and polished game! I shared with you my playtest video on discord! :)

Very fun! Honestly very little criticism from me on this project as I could see my self downloading this off of the app store and playing it on breaks at work as is. The only reason I stopped playing at level 2-25 is because I need to write this and get ready for work and might just try it on mobile if I get the chance at work today. Played on PC this morning and it felt and looked great. The one bit of input I would give and this honestly might hurt the game if mobile is the market you wanted to go for is to move away from this cute colorful style and really lean into the wyrm aspect of the title and give it a Norse or Germanic Mythology theme...I guess you could keep it cute and do this mythology theme at the same time though. Once again great job I really enjoyed playing!

Thanks again for the feedback on my game! I made a first-impression video for you as well. Hopefully it's useful for you and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the playtest! A lot of helpful insights in there, and it was fun seeing you have a few a-ha moments. As far as the last puzzle (2-8), I've stumped myself quite a few times trying to solve it when verifying builds, I find it very frustrating!. For one of the puzzles, you came up with a novel solution I didn't even know was possible! Really nice to see you return to 1-6 to complete it with your new knowledge, 1-6 was too hard and out of sequence, so we've recently shifted it around.

We have recently added a hint system, and more or less implemented the color sequence things you had proposed, so it was nice to hear some of those reinforcing comments. Based on your session, I've got a few direct notes to focus on early game onboarding and getting some more level/theme variety

Anyways, thanks again, very helpful info

Hey Sir Cheese, I just played this and really enjoyed it - love me a puzzle game! I got to 2-8 before clicking off the game to do something and when I came back my controller wasn't working so I stopped as it was a bit tedious using the mouse (keyboard wasn't working either for some reason).

Only real feedback I would give is:

1) I would enjoy a few more mechanics to start to be sprinkled in like the squares where you have to go through them in a certain direction with a certain colour - I'm sure you got some stuff cooking, it was just starting to get a bit repetitive by the end and I was ready for some additional challenges.

2) I think it could do with some more palette cleansing puzzles i.e. some easier puzzles after particularly difficult ones - like it felt pretty linear in difficulty gain which can become a bit wearing in puzzles games.

Besides those two things it is pretty gosh darn awesome - definitely needs to be on Ipad as that is where I would play this.

I like how the environment reacts to level progression.

Idk why I'm growing more heads, it feels more like a hydra than a wyrm.

It would be nice to have a button to completely reset just the latest head.

Head orientation glitches for a frame (I think it gets horizontal) on alternated up and down movement.

Got stuck on 1-6 for a few minutes, I reached 2-2 before quitting.

It's not the type of game I would play based on its aesthethic alone but I think presentation is really good.

I was hoping I could play with the wyrm in the main menu as well.

Hello, here's my feedback and a recording of my playtesting:

What was the most frustrating moment in what you experienced?

- Nothing in particular was frustrating, though it would be nice to maybe see the order of snake head colours somewhere. I think it would make it easier to plan my moves ahead when I forget which colour is next.

What was your favorite part of the game?

- I absolutely love the presentation and game feel. It felt very tactile and the Wyrms were super cute.

Was there anything you wanted to do, but the game didn’t let you?

- Honestly nothing in particular comes to mind, if I'm being really picky maybe some kind of keyboard shortcut to go back to the start of the puzzle.

If you had a magic wand where you could change any part of the game, regardless of cost or complexity, what would you add/change/remove?

- Potentially a hint system? Maybe one that let you know which block to go to next so it doesn't spoil the whole puzzle but if someone is really stuck it could help get them on the right track.

What would you say you were doing in the game?

- Solving puzzles with Wyrms!

How would you describe the game to friends and family?

- Super cute puzzle game.

Just as a separate note I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would. I don't normally go for puzzle games but this was pretty intuitive and the presentation/theming was so cute it made me want to play more.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a bunch for the playtest recording! We've added a reset button and a widget showing the snake order since you played. We also added a hint system, but I think it needs a different approach after seeing some other players use it. Anyways, thanks, those were some good suggestions!

Submitted(+2)

Ok, perfect score. I can't stop playing this. If you are not already making money off this, it will not be long

Fun fact: this music was the one of the first songs I ever put in a game

Submitted(+2)

Such a cute presentation, I love puzzle games like this!

Difficulty spikes pretty hard after the 1st couple of puzzles (around the 1-5 and 1-6 range) 1-5 feels like a very important puzzle for the mechanics but the number of wyrms suddenly jumping up is a little intimidating.

Was slightly confused that you introduced a new mechanic in 2-1 but it doesn't show up again until a couple of levels after, but I thought the new block type was a really natural addition to the gameplay.

Played through with mostly using the mouse and for a slight improvement is there any way you could update the input so you can click and drag as well as click each block? Wanted to play through using arrow keys as well but seemed pretty unresponsive with just them from time to time, had to press a couple of times to register an input (every other input type was totally fine), not sure if there was something going on with my keyboard or there were some issues with input tracking.

Music track seemed to just play through once then stop for me as well.

Did play through all of the puzzles and definitely enjoyed my time (finished all of them minus 2-5 and 2-6), do have to say though, the smaller puzzles felt much more interesting than the big ones with a small number of wyrms. I'm sorry this sounds a little negative, but this was really fun and I'll definitely come back to play some more with any updates!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback, this was very helpful! I was able to push an update today which removes keyboard arrows (not sure what their deal is), and fixed the looping music!

The game is definitely intended to be played with keyboard, but for now we're gonna just support the normal WASD until the arrow issue is fixed. I think this is a better way to play anyways, since you will have quick access to undo/redo (Q and E). We also enabled press & hold for keyboard/gamepad to speed things up.
I think the click and drag is a great idea, it will just take a little longer to implement. The game design ideas are wonderful, but we might hold off until the playtest is over before addressing those, thanks again!

I got stuck on 1-4 but then I could continue on other levels up to 1-8 no problem. I liked the gameplay. Gameplay and visuals reminds me of the snakebird. At 1-8 it is a little bit overwhelming for me so I just take a break to write this. Will come back to this later and update :)

Developer

snakebird is certainly an inspiration! Noted about the difficulty spikes, will consider that when reworking onboarding in the future, thanks!

Submitted(+2)

This is cute and I really enjoyed it! I got stuck on 1-6 though...

Developer

Thanks! We have a hint system in the works, but if you wanted any hints just lemme know - we also have a skip button if that helps.

1-6 seems to be a theme in how difficult it is compared to the other intro levels, we'll certainly consider moving it around in the future!

Thanks again!
