This was a creative story well told through the intro. The music and sfx matched the feel of the old school game. I liked that you added controller support.
The lack of checkpoints quickly became frustrating. Also the lack of joystick support, while making the game feel more old school, just made me give up earlier because playing a game with a D-Pad is uncomfortable these days.
Overall it was very solid game.
Played until the forest section and a bit further. I like the uniqueness of the movement. Nice retro vibe from music and art. Cool that you've added an intro.
An unskippable intro? In this economy? :D
Cool game. The limited controls make the platforming pretty challenging.
I feel more checkpoints would be justified to avoid frustration.
press X (dualshock) / A(xbox) /B (nintendo) on your controller or X on your keyboard to skip the intro ;)
My favorite platformer this jam, really loved the satisfying jump!
Cute game! I didn't really understand the second mechanic (the stopping one) at first, so I ended up trying to pick up flower for 2 good minutes lmao
The art and sound design are really nice! The game is a bit unforgiving though, I feel like a bit more checkpoints could help that.
Really good entry overall! <3
Excellent entry.
I was amazed by the number of levels and the amount of gameplay mechanics introduced despite the very simple and limited controls. Art and music are great too.
Very good job on this one.
Wow you nailed the old school vibe and the intro story was chefs kiss!! Really enjoyed playing your game, congrats on a great entry!
This looks amazing! I really liked the intro.
This reminded me of NES and SNES era games with the art, music, and difficulty. It was definitely a challenging game, but it did not feel unreasonably difficult, nor did the difficulty level feel wrong. I really enjoyed the retro feel of the art and sound. The animations looked great and did a good job conveying information to the player. I was particularly fond of the way the jump looked different based on how long you held down the jump button. The starting cutsceen was a nice touch and helped set the feel of the game.
The controls felt pretty good, though I did find myself wanting to push space to jump instead of z a few times. I thought it was neat that you pushed left or right start moving in that direction and pushed down to stop, while how long you held z affected the height/distance of your jump. I also liked that your jump was based on your movement, so jumping from standing still meant you jumped straight up instead of the direction you were facing.
I didn’t make it very far, but that speaks more to my skill level than to the quality of the game. The check points did help me get farther than I might otherwise have, and I enjoyed it enough that it makes me want to play more to improve so that I can try to make it to the end.
Really great platformer, movement mechanic is so unique and fun! Super cool!
Art is great *clap*
I would love to have more than one live or just some checkpoint, lack of that is really problem to have more enjoyment for game. I think similar problem was in Celeste so it could be good reference.
Congratulations on your submission!
Just forgot to say, intro is great. I appreciate your effort.
Loved the art! This looks like a cordyceps wall-e on a mario world! I have some issues with the viewport tho, I loved the charge animation in the jumping dynamic. That feels very fun. But i often find my self trying to jump with "space". But it was really fun to explore the world with the jump! Also level starting near your death area is a saver for me cause i was waiting for the death screen to spawn me in the begining which i think kills the gameplay. The only thing i can say is that the platforms i can stay on could've been more visible. The tree coves don't have collisions but they seem to be a block of wall sometimes. But overall great work!
Love the audio, graphics, sound design, and progressively different level design!
very cute and enjoyable! i did yearn for an initial checkpoint when i died to the frog, as your character is a bit slow. the art is adorable, especially the intro (appreciably wordless) cutscene. the songs + sounds are the best i've heard in the jam so far, lovely
