I LOVE the art style for this game, it might be my favourite out of all the games I’ve played in the jam so far! The backgrounds are gorgeous and the crow animation is charming! The sound design and music were also great and created a very nice atmosphere. Really fun transitions too, very well done!

My only feedback with the art is, I think the readability could be better. At first I couldn't tell the difference between the safe and dangerous platforms because they look really similar. While the backgrounds are beautiful, some of them were really high contrast (the level with the bright red trees in particular) which really draws your attention a bit too much. I feel like backgrounds are meant to... well, fade into the background! It was hard to see the crow and the worms against certain colors too, like the dark tree trunks. Just my opinion, but I'd suggest thinking about which values you use in the foreground and background, to make sure the foreground always stands out.

As for gameplay, this might be because I was expecting it to be more like a typical platformer, but I wasn't a fan of the flappy bird style movement at first, and found it awkward that you can only fly forwards, I actually thought it might be a bug! But once I got used to it, I started enjoying it more, and I can see what you were going for now. It's very challenging though! I couldn't get past the 4th level.

Great job overall, this game definitely stands out!

The controls were kind of stiff, though I think it’s supposed to be like a more complicated version of flappy bird? Which is actually a really cool idea that I’d love to see refined and expanded upon. Incredible artwork and fun music too. Great job!

Developer

Thank you!!!!!!

The backgrounds were stunning, and the art all around was really great.

The gameplay was also super interesting with how you could get ahead of the scrolling screen while walking but not while flying, which lead to interesting strategy.

But, hoo boy, was this hard. that second to last level took me a good 15 minutes.

Also I think a fullscreen button would be helpful, I ended up having to scroll up and down quite a bit.

Awesome game!

Developer(+2)

Thank you!!! There should be a full screen button integrated into the itch ui, just in the bottom corner of the screen! Sometimes you need to use the bottom slidebar to scroll right slightly to find it.

Ah, I see it now. Thank you!

I'm not sure how to win, but I'm a bird with pants and a backpack so kinda already winning at life. Very pretty game! The playable transition was a fun surprise!

Developer

Thank you! To win, its pretty much just the concept of Flappy bird, Make it to the end of the map! and you can try to beat your past worm collection score if you are up to the challenge.

Very nice playable screen transition section. In one level, it was so frustrating, I wasn't ready for flappy-bird gameplay.

However, very good looking game.

Developer

THANK YOUUUUU, yah in full honesty... i haven't even completed the game, shhhhh

The art and music are good, but I had some trouble with the level right before the final one.
Overall, the game experience is great.

Developer(+1)

THANK YOUUUUU, yah... i cant even finish that one shhhhh

Amazing art, I loved how it cycled through the seasons!

Developer

THANK YOU FOR NOTICINGGGGG

Really beautiful game! The art ist just gorgeous and the music is also really nice. In one level the music didnt loop properly though, there was a second silence which really distracted me XD The game itself was pretty difficult to play especially with the wrong resolution, but still a really nice game for this game jam ^^

Developer

THANK YOUUUU, yah the resolution is an issue.....  but thanks a tonnnn!!!! i love the music, iv used the same music/sound producer for my past 3 jams <3

I like the idea of this game but I did have a hard time lol. To start off with the positive things, the art is obviously incredible, it's a shame there's no real parallax in the background as I feel it would've made the world feel far more alive but it still looks great. The player sprite and animations are also very nice, the wings flapping look so smooth! The minigame for the transition is also super smart too and charming! But the gameplay I'm just not a fan of, it feels like it's a mix of flappy bird and geometry dash, both games that are know for being frustrating combined into one, I understand I may not be the target audience so fair enough but I just didn't enjoy it. You've mentioned in another review that coyote time would help and I couldn't agree more so I won't go over that. One other thing is it'd be nice if  the brambles stood out more, when you're trying to be fast and outrun the screen you don't have much time to look ahead and you're already stressed with making precise jumps you just don't have enough time to process what's ahead unless it's very clear. Still though, great work overall! I do like the sort of puzzle aspect you were going for, if the difficulty was toned down I think this could be very fun! Great job!

Thank you for the in-depth feedback! I think I experienced a bit of developer bias with the difficulty. I can barely beat it now after not playing it for a day.

I had this problem with my first two jams as well, it's quite hard to judge difficulty as the developer, for now my mindset is, "if the difficulty is hard for me, how on earth is the player with no experience supposed to play". Of course if you're having an easy time playing  in the moment it can be hard to judge and I haven't figured that one out either.

Developer(+1)

Thank youuuu!!!!! as the artist i really appreciate it! and, fun fact, all the backgrounds are actually designed and prepped for the parallax integration! We just didn't get the time to incorporate it, so i completely agree and i was planned! And with the brambles, i tried to darken the block, but i definitely could have made the danger more apparent.

Submitted

That's a shame as they look so good!! But completely understand. Fair enough on the brambles, they still look good and are 90% of the time clear but yeah it'd be nice to be even more clear.

I really liked your take on the transition screens

Developer

Thank you so much!!

Interesting! Beautiful art, creative take on a limitation. Mechanics didn't really clicked for me, also game wouldn't open in correct resolution, so I didn't finish the game. Still adorable though!

Developer

thank you!!!! i have heard the mechanics are a bit difficult for some, and...the resolution is something we had complications with, but it should work if you full screen it!

I loved the game so much. The art style was good, Love the mechanics of the game. Only a issue that I am facing is that when during double jump it changes to flying bird it only moves int he forward direction not in backward direction. Because I missed so many worms due to that. But overall a great game.

Developer

THANK YOUUU, the flying mechanic was intended, to create almost a puzzle aspect of having to find ways to jump correctly and line up different ways to get the worms. But i do see it being way more difficult from it

Submitted(+2)

Really gorgeous game! I found the flying mechanic a little difficult, but this is a really lovely accomplishment.

Developer

i have heard that about the flying, but it was intended. to kind of create a small challenge withing the mobility and having to work around it. AND THANK YOUUUUU

Best implementation of the limitation I've seen so far! I found some of the deaths a bit annoying while playing the actual game though, but maybe getting more used to the exact size of the bird would help me

Developer

Thank you so much!! I didn't think to add coyote jump, which is what I think would fix some annoying death issues.
