Really cool game! Funnily enough I've been trying to get into chess recently so this was fun to see! On my first playthrough I didn't quite get the extra mechanics as the screen was too zoomed in to see the whole shop, I didn't really interact with the timer on pieces and then eventually the game soft locked with the enemy team not making a move, but I was enjoying playing chess with different piece positions than usual. Second playthrough I learnt about zooming out so I could see the whole shop, and I pressed e to see all the timers and then things clicked, I really liked the idea, I started playing the game as intended and was properly thinking about what pieces to use. Eventually having multiple queens to checkmate in less than 5 turns was very fun. Selling pieces is a really cool idea too, especially with the shop being randomized (I think), so I also had to consider if there were any pieces I actually wanted from the shop. The game did softlock again sadly, but I think I got to experience the core of the game. This is really fun, such a good idea on the theme and also chess in general lol. Excellent work on this!
Thank you! Happy you liked the atmosphere. You made it close enough to the end! The intended idea was to follow the lights in the open field and use your flare to scare the big enemies away but the flare is the least tutorialized thing in the game so it's not clear that you should use it. Still though, glad you enjoyed most of it!
For a first jam game this is extremely good! The atmosphere of this game is really well done! Difficulty was on point, each level was a close call but was enough time to figure things out and the weeping angels were a threat but not too hard to deal with. While there's only 3 levels, each was progressively harder at a nice rate too. The hourglass is also a really cool idea, has a lot of potential for other things like showing fake walls and showing or removing traps, etc... there's a lot of potential for expansion. Overall a fun game, and really good for a first jam, congrats!
Thank you!! Glad the atmosphere hit!
For the visuals it's a mix of using a render texture to have a pixelated 3d look, post processing with the main aspects of it being the shadows, mid-tones and highlights, I made the shadows quite dark and have a dark blue tint and the mid-tones have a yellow/green tint. The default fog is used, experimented with finding a nice density and color for that. There's a full screen shader graph material that has dithering and posterization. Screen space ambient occlusion is also on. But the main unique aspect of the visuals is that the camera is orthographic and not perspective, it's a pretty cool look but made the code for aiming to the mouse a lot trickier -_-
That is a very good point on enemies that take multiple hits, I never really considered this much so I'll think about what could work. I appreciate the kind words, happy to hear I've improved! Hope to continue that upward trend lol.
Super fun game, could of gladly played longer! Super cool idea for a game, I'm surprised I haven't seen something like this before as it's a simple but really fun idea. The enemies are all well made, I like the different types, pretty cool how one of them seems to shoot to where you plan to go, definitely caught me the most, and the healer was a cool idea too! The visuals are really nice too, the blood splatter effect is so cool, and all the pixel art is very nicely done, very cool effect on the wisp-y trail at the bottom of the player, of course screen shake is very nice too. I really liked how if you missed a throw the heart would just travel to the complete other side of the screen forcing you to charge towards it leading to some pretty funny and risky situations. This is just a very fun game, great work!
What can I say, it's peak. First of all, the entire ost SLAPS, got it on my playlist (of 1000+ tracks), and it'll be a treat to hear it when it shows up from time to time, it's so good, love the main menu and opening cutscene music in particular, I'm also curious if the opening cutscene music had some inspirations from music in Tears of the kingdom (zelda), certain little sections sounded quite similar, either way it's an excellent track. Now for the visuals, obviously it's also incredible, the main menu UI to the environment, to the characters to the minigames. I can't even say anything of interest as its too good lol. The gameplay is also pretty fun too, the minigames are all quite fun but not too hard, having to fix the pipes that weren't part of the path to the water was a little unintuitive but wasn't a big issue at all. My only real criticism is that I wish the big bell could of been hit for a nice "bing bong" sound, that would of made the game an 11/10 but it'll sadly just have to be a 10/10. Excellent work to the whole team, y'all should be proud of yourselves! Great job!
Fun game! I really like the visuals for the player, love the expression change when you start running out of moves. The little move particles make moving feel good too! I like the puzzles but I got stuck at level 9, I just cannot figure out the solution lol, still though, it was fun! The UI transition for changing levels or restarting is also very stylish! A solid, fun puzzle game, good work!
Quite a cool game! I'm not great at bullet hell games but I do like them, and this one has a lot of cool fights! The turn based style is quite interesting and I think in the later 5 bosses the turn based aspect is pulled of pretty well! The earlier bosses are nice for a tutorial but once you know how to do them it just becomes boring, since you can't really deal more damage or play better once you understand what to do. I didn't end up completing the game as the spider boss was really hard for me lol, but I think I experienced most fights. The character sprites are very nice, and the attack indicators are well made too! Overall quite a fun game! A bit hard but still very fun, great work!
Super awesome game! Really love the vibe of it. The visuals are great and the music is also really good and fits the vibe perfectly. The background is so cool looking, I really like it's style even if I don't know what is. And the environment visuals are really cool and unique too. The puzzles were very smart and I honestly struggled a lot, I appreciate the skip level feature as I did have to use it 3-4 times lol, but tried to do as much as possible. The dialogue in the earlier levels was really funny and charming too! Very cool idea for the ending sequence too! This is just a really cool game, excellent work!
This is just pure genius lol. You can absolutely see the WarioWare inspiration in the art. The visuals are really nicely done, really cool shader at the end of the fuse and the speed lines really add to the stress lol. Also cool how you can some of the burnt fuse trail. Very creative idea and while short it's well polished and fun. I managed to get 63 seconds. Great game!
Super cute game! The visuals are so well done, I can't say much in detail on it as it's just executed perfectly! A really smart take on the theme and a fun narrative to go with it. Mini games were pretty fun too, the dancing mini game unfortunately did not work with my keyboard and doing three inputs at once often didn't work, but it was still a fun mini game despite that (with excellent art for the dance moves). The marathon mini game was also impossible for me too lol, but I think that was more of a skill issue. I do think it was a little punishing to lose all progress on the bar with one mistake but it's not like you lose much if you fail a mini game. I also like how you were able to retry mini games you lost too! And also the UI for selecting the mini game is super stylish. This is just a really nice game, love the art, it's so cute. Great work!
While I already said it on discord, thank you! I'm glad the vibe hit, I typically like making the atmosphere/vibe of my games one of the most important things, so I'm glad you like it so much! Happy to hear you enjoyed the gameplay too.
XD I never actually considered the gun working underwater.
Thanks for such a long detailed comment, it means a lot!
Super cool game! Been a while since I've played anything like Bomberman but this is really cool and expands on it in many ways! First off, visuals are incredible! Super well polished, love the bounciness of everything! It's subtle but I also like how there are different backgrounds in each level. All the gameplay ideas are really smart and really get tricky overtime, but the checkpoints are placed very nicely so it's not punishing at all. I really wasn't expecting how hard it would get though lol, really had to think quick in those later levels. I really liked the last level which didn't really have any gimmicks but just felt like a bullet hell. I especially liked hiding behind bombs to be protected from other bombs, it wasn't used too much and mostly in the earlier levels but it was such a cool idea! This is just super well done, great work!
Really cool game! Very cool idea for the countdown actually, I really like the idea of increasing your max time and having to spend your time for upgrades. I just about managed to get the katana but then it became way too intense and I died pretty quickly lol. I gotta say, the music slaps, I really like how opening the shop has an elevator sounding variation of the track, love it. The enemy variations were all cool, I like the enemy that plants a bomb on death, the knockback on the bombs is really cool but it killing enemies is neat too! Just a solid game, shame you weren't in the jam but hey, you still made a good game!
Thank you so much! I definitely added more oxygen refills than needed, I could of been a bit more lenient but I wanted to make sure people who don't play this kind of game often or maybe got a little stuck would have a chance. In my own testing 15-20 refills seemed like a good amount but I wanted to be sure lol. I do like the idea of picking them up but starting off with only a few. Glad you enjoyed overall!
This is just INCREDIBLE! I really love this game! The visuals are so, so well done. Love the animations, they have so much character, the squash and stretch is so nice, the eyes actually close for certain animations. Why do these chess piece looking characters have so much aura with certain animations?! The empower party animation on the knight looks super cool! I really like the cinematic angles, even without them the game would be sick but it just adds so much more...coolness ig lol. The gameplay is really sick too, maybe a little too easy if you find the right moves. I didn't see all the spells the mage had but confusion and slow and then fireball when knight uses empower party seemed like the winning strategy. I really like the counting down to select the moves, I do think it could of had more disruptions alongside the speeding up and blocking certain numbers, not sure what kind of disruption, but it's a fun mechanic and it'd be nice to see more stuff with it. I have nothing else to say but, absolute peak! Fantastic work, this is so good! My favorite game so far!
First jam game I've ever played to cause me some physical pain, ngl kinda impressive!
But being honest this is actually really smart and well made. Even without the leaderboard aspect this is just well polished and visually very nice to look at. The combo and breaks are very good to have. The music is very fitting too! But it's really such a cool idea for the theme too. Excellent work, hope that number gets to zero!
Really cool game! Visually it's super cool, love the artstyle, the head bobbing and camera tilt really make it satisfying to move, I'm sure there were other little details I didn't even notice. The audio is excellent, music is great and the gun shots feel super satisfying. The actual character movement felt good too, I liked how the sniper shot launched you forward. And I really liked how colliding with a target was enough to hit it without having to shoot it, making movement feel important. To be honest I did kinda give up on looking at what gun type I was about to have, I just aimed my cursor over the target and let fate decide what hits it lol. Think I got a little over 50 targets on my run. Really fun game and super well polished, excellent work!
Super fun game! Best I could do was 32, perhaps there's more hazards but I couldn't reach them lol. But the 2 hazards that got introduced as time went one were really cool, was not expecting an orbital laser XD
I really wish the attack button was something else, or was mapped to multiple inputs, as it's really awkward to press, but otherwise this is a great game. Really fun gameplay, simple to understand but tricky to play well. I really like how spikes and the laser also affect enemies and not just you. This is just a good time. Great work!
What an awesome game! The art is super nice, super charming visuals, especially the comic panel intro and outro, also the lion is adorable. I like the pictures having gmtk written on them lol. Really fun idea for the gameplay too. It's tutorialized very well and each mechanic is simple but builds up the intensity when paired up with other mechanics. The fire, candle and bookshelf were the most engaging for sure since they're a constant issue and you have to keep track of their location (still wondering how the books leap across the entire room). I liked the blackout event a lot too, not being able to find the clothes basket in the dark while other things are going on was a little chaotic lol. Ended up with an A rank at I think 1:18 left. This could easily be expanded on with more things to handle and more events, there's a really solid gameplay loop. Great work, this was very fun!
I really like this game, unfortunately I had quite a few bugs. Whenever I complete a level it seems the execute plan no longer works, thankfully you have a level select so I was able to progress still, so good idea for adding that! I still had some issues, especially with level 3, I think when you slide the execute plan also doesn't register it or something. Shooting the ricochet things to bounce bullets was cool but it got quite hard to angle them properly in some levels and I just kept missing. Despite all that I think this is super awesome. It took me a while to understand the mechanics but once I got it, things just clicked. The visuals and audio of this game are super good, love the vibe! There's some really cool stuff here, shame about the bugs but I'm glad I got to experience a good portion of the game. Great work, this is really cool!
Really pretty visuals! And a surprisingly cool mechanic. While it was only really relevant during the final level, having to plan out a route so you can get back to the monolith in time to press it was pretty cool! As others mentioned the collision was a bit off but it wasn't a big problem since you hardly lose any progress. Good work, this was quite fun and really pretty!
This slaps. Such an awesome game! You really nailed the arcade-y style! Really like the visuals, super charming, especially the pizza car and how it animates! Loved the explosion effect on the enemies. Took a bit to understand the movement properly but it's really cool! Took me a while to realize you could go below platforms when holding down. But also I eventually realized dashing was essentially an instant cooldown and could go diagonally and up and down. It's super satisfying when you're locked in and hitting the perfect dash angles. Music is on point too! Just a super fun game. Love the ending saying rest in peace to the car but not the character lol. Got to wave 14 personally! Great work, this was super fun!
Very cool idea! I really like the take on theme. The gameplay is simple but I'm impressed you managed to make it more and more interesting over time. While it's mostly just a counting game it was cool when I actually forgot where I was due to the pattern being complicated so I had to look at the bead line I was making and try and figure out where I was. I do wish there was music, in fact I put on my own music while playing this and noticed that often clicking the beads would sync up with the music creating quite a satisfying experience, if this was to be expanded on into a full game, having a slight rhythm game element to it might be cool. Really cool game, great work!
