How does your game represent "Slick"?
This is a skating platformer, where the ultimate goal is to pull off tricks and skate smoothly in order to get a high score (the highest rank being slick, which requires you to nail each of the sections)

Neat little game ya got there! :D I suck at timing but I did manage to get "Amazing", the stickers were a neat touch for a skating platformer x], you've also got appropriately kewl sfx and music so great job buddo! ( ̄︶ ̄)↗
The UI and vibes are really nice! I the scoring sound effects and everything felt really responsive, reminded me of Tony Hawk
Hey, I'm decent! Definitely a better rank than I expected because I ran into a LOT of obstacles. Fun idea! I love the boat too. Nice work!
real fun trying to get the high scores! Grinding all the ollies all day, everyday until I got the SLICK rank :D
Congrats! Slick is a bit tricky to get but I tried to make sure it was achievable. Glad you enjoyed!
This is a nice lil game! I appropriately got the cool rank.
Well done!
Ugh I kept getting only decent rank! This is a pretty addictive game, I can see myself playing this more if the level was longer and if there were more levels. But in terms of what is here, it's really fun! I think my only criticism was the jump/ollie animation being kinda basic. Maybe a little more of a crouch or wind up before the jump? Other than that, fun time!
Glad you enjoyed! This was my first time ever drawing humanoid characters or doing character sprites for a game, so I found it quite a tricky and slow process. I got halfway through a proper Ollie animation before I had to stop because it was taking up too much of my time and I still had to do course design and environmental art. I definitely need to get some more practice in before the next jam.
Main tip if you want to get higher ranks is to make sure you get all the sticker spots! The game is quite forgiving of a few mistakes if you have all the stickers (2000 points just from having them all), so my advice is to not focus on those and spend a lot of time grinding, which should net you an Amazing rank.
Phew, I finally cracked AMAZING rank! Really fun game... great visuals: easy to read levels and just looked cool. My main feature requests: be able to do a kickflip, and a slight crouching animation for the ollies xD
Yeah I got halfway through the Ollie animation before I started running low on time and had to return to course and environment design since it was still a block out on Friday… This was also why I didn’t include a kickflip but it was in my original design notes as a way to get extra points from ollies in some sections. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
(P.S. there is a slick rank too you know…)
short n sweet. i enjoyed it, fun to try to get high scores
cool idea , reminds me a lot of the newground games back in the day
Had to play this since my game has the same title lol
It was very slick, the game really made you feel like you're a skateboarder
I couldn't find out if there's a way to do other tricks than grinding and ollies, but it was still a fun ride :)
Sadly no more tricks, I wanted to add in spins and kickflips (with different durations to add some risk-reward) but didn’t have the time. Glad you enjoyed it though and thanks! I’ll have to check out your game as well
This is the closest we are getting to a new Tony Hawk game isn't it?
Had to really slap around my keyboard to figure out the controls not realizing that w was jump and spacebar had to be constantly pressed for bursts of speed, but once I got that down it was a breeze, smart use of of UI to show the balance, great premise for a game, nice and short levels makes it easy to get in and get out if on a time crunch. Would love to see where this goes.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed! I put the tutorial messages in the little ‘radio bar’ that pops up, but unfortunately I think that makes it a bit easy to miss. I’ll need to figure out a better tutorial system (maybe larger signs or prompts).
Ahh I see it now, it just looks like set dressing to start with so you miss a decent chunk of the info at the start.
HOW DO I GET AN S. I tried to get the S without cheesing. i got 3800 (or around that) but just an A. INCREDIBLY fun though. i think i got a D the first 2 or 3 times, then finally a C, and then could not get an S no matter how hard i tried. just kept landing on A. Very fun game. and very on brand for slick.
So glad you enjoyed it!
The main key to getting an S is all the stickers, each sticker is 500pts and the All Stickers Bonus is another 500pts, so if you get all of them that’s 2000pts by itself. Then it’s mostly about getting onto the grind rails as early as possible so you’re racking up the grind points and getting more chances for the balance minigame. Best of luck if you try it again, S is at 4000pts so you weren’t far off!
I got 11178 points in 252.39 seconds by doing a lot of slick ollies whilst standing still.
Fun game with a cool aesthetic love the radio talking to me on the bottom of the screen, reminds me of persona 4 and the radio in gen5 pokemon
Yeah, I suspected this may be a bit of a way to cheese the score, but I didn’t want to make it too difficult to do Ollies either for some of the sections. Will have to have a think about a way to avoid this. Glad you enjoyed it!
