Incredibly well-designed, seriously! I'd pay for it.
still cant wait to explore all the crazy stuff you put on here SQLPY! Thansk for the support and patience during the stream, I am sure you have realised you made a phenomenal game ❤️
This was such a cool game!!! Loved how the player character was like a little squishy block so when I jumped around, really had a nice and fun feel. It was also really cool that the main menu was also the tutorial to the game as well. Such an awesome game. I wish that when typing we could see the full word and not just part of it (with the longer words like Mountain). Definitely one of my favorites I've played for Round 2!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Different enemies have different patterns. One of them shows you the whole word before you begin typing but hides it once you begin ^^
The most basic one just shows 4 letters ahead at all times.
It used to be just 2 letters for but I increased it to 4 since it proved too difficult during playtesting :D
This was definitely fun!
I love neon graphics! the effects are awesome too, I love how you get the letter spiraling around you, the QTEs are niceeee Good job! I loved it, took me time to understand at the start and solve but I felt like I wanted to go all the way through! loved the secrets! can I ask how did you come up with this?
if you can please check out my entry I would appreciate that a lot
I started with two ideas:
From there it kinda evolved: well words are just multiple letters, so let me do that. Then the multifunctionality was the tricky part so it just kinda started by having themed levels and the kinda baba is you inspired levels in the hub world, which led to the multi tiered secrets because I wanted to reuse the theming in as many ways as I could.
Having added that, I found out it had become too obscured through play testing and I needed a hint system, which led to the autogenerated nonograms from the level geometry (it picks a subsection of the level and you gotta solve that). And when solved you get a different hint from each level to help you progress! This allowed me another way to reuse the levels for the hints too so it worked out!
All in all i just kinda started somewhere then I had to think hard a few times to solve some problems or add layers which is how we ended up where we did.
In the end I don’t really think the platforming adds much and if I had to redo it I think I’d rethink the main gameplay loop a bit so it’s another base-game or perhaps only have it be a typing game. Though it would fit the theme less well that way I think it would be a better game for it
that makes sense, I understand now, thank you for sharing <3
Really fun game! The QTE's felt really good to do and visually its really nice
I love this but I’m not sure I’m good enough or observant enough to make it through. I’m on a kinesis split keyboard so the encircling QTEs are really really really hard. I can’t pass colors, there’s always two, and I wonder if I’m not fast enough, or maybe I’m just missing something. Subtext feels impossible, there’s a jump to an encircling QTE, mabye the 4th or 5th and I just can’t do it in time. I might find other keyboard but then the downside is I’ll be sooooo slooooow on it. Still a 5 on fun and doesn’t affect the other ratings.
Colors and subtext are designed to be two hard levels. I did not have time to playtest them, so the difficulty seems to be slightly off for what seems to be around 40% of people. Anyway, colors has a sorta out of the way thing to collect, which might be what you are missing!
I briefly considered keyboard layouts being a problem (I know German swaps z and y for instance) but decided it was too much scope to handle and it would be an acceptable sacrifice to make.
So I’m sorry for sacrificing you lmao
The encircling one is solved by typing each key surrounding the letter once, as laid out on a normal keyboard. I made sure to only hit a-z0-9 when doing this.
So if there’s any contradiction there to your layout that might be why it’s not working out.
Thanks very much for checking it out!
So I don’t bury the lead, I really love this game and, despite the challenges unique to me, can totally see this in the same scope as Leap Year and would 100% buy this for $5. So all of this is me encouraging you to keep going!
FWIW, I think godot actually lets you do “physical keys” so you can check
DisplayServer.keyboard_get_keycode_from_physical()for layout. But, yes, totally out of scope for this jam!And here’s the Kinesis keyboard. Since keys are vertical, I only have one key directly above. Thankfully you don’t require them in order (and preserve hits), so technically I can hit the key directly above and then figure out if I need to go right or left BUT this slows me down quite a bit. I think this could actually solved by making the timeout adjustable.
Again, all stuff way out of scope for a jam, excellent work, obviously hoping for more.
Ooooooh, I can see how that keyboard would cause issues LOL
Gotta say this is a great game. I liked the QTE typing things and the new types introduced later as well as the picross puzzles. Very well done!
It's simply an incredible game.I'm amazed by the depth of secrets. And this is in a jam game!
The only downside is that I really wanted to get to Nonogram, but I never found them. The game is too demanding on my fingers 😥(this will not affect the rating in any way)
I wonder if the hint about typing solve could have something to do with finding them
I need to test other games, but now I can't tear myself away from nonograms 🤣
Lol 😂
10/10 the more you play the more the game reveals, I am stuck tho. I “solved” but the hints dont help me
Super cool game and concept! It could be a little difficult at times, but it was really fun to learn the game more as I progressed. I also really enjoyed the puzzles too!
I love everything about this game. The only issue I have is with the softlocks. Some of the levels feel less puzzle solvey and more difficult platformy. Not necessarily a bad thing, but to me it felt like a conflict of interest. Everything else is literally perfect. Great job!
I can tell a lot of heart went into this one! I loved the exploration, that there are secrets to discover and having a hub world is awesome. Typing words for QTE's was easily my favourite part and I love the way it transports you to their position especially if it involved jumping and having the vision depleting is such an awesome, yet tense mechanic. The word choices that change, the neon look and level layouts are fantastic too. If I had to give one bit of feedback, I felt like the button mashing parts didn't feel quite as good as the typing of words but that might just be my preference
It's an excellent game, the gameplay of both the qte's and the numbers grid were so well done, perfectly fitting for both tasks. the art style was amazing and character movement and qte's part was also very smooth, am really bad with spellings but most of the letters were not that lengthy so it wasn't a huge deal for me.. so overall it was amazing game🔥. I still have quite a lot of levels + secret levels to complete which i'll make sure to comeback for.. btw is the 'beloh' a keyword to type somewhere or did you just mean it so that i know i can go down in map?
I like the art style and it is fun to play.
I've always enjoyed games with typing and finding secrets was nice! This kinda reminded me of the game Baba is You, if you've heard about it (not that they have similiar gameplay but similiar graphical style and joy of finding new things). This was such a fun game to try out!
It's a well-made game, I like the minimalistic art style and the level design.
i'm in love with the spelling feature. so clean. the qtes were tricky but i feel like it was for an intended level of difficulty. i enjoyed the graphic choices you made as well. super satisfying ui
The minimalist aesthetic and sfx worked really nicely together!
I was not able to complete some of the levels, so I really appreciated that I could proceed to the next room to try out the other ones after a few failed attempts.
Thank you for playing my entry on stream, good work with yours!
Sweet little game, the two themes of the jam were executed spot on.
