AI stall the game when it know it losting

Developer

That’s smart…for the AI 😂.
Thanks I’ll fix it.

It's cool all that you had all of theme game modes! Also impressive that it's all in javascript. The visuals were nice. I played the flower one. The AI were a bit funny sometimes, but it's a great proof of concept, and not too hard.

And above all, congratulations on finishing something and submitting it, there is always room for improvements, but actually making something is how you get better and learn :)

Cool game, the number of chess variations you were able to create are impressive! Some of the ideas are really clever.  The presentation is clean and the start menu is laid out in a sensible way. Sfx and background music would help the overall vibe a lot. The theme application feels like a pretty big stretch and the fact that you also submitted the game to like 5 or 6 other jams makes it seem like you didn't really care enough to take this jam seriously tbh. That being said its a cool idea for a game and everything runs well. Nice work!

There are no rules against posting on multiple jams and i am taking it so seriously that i don't upload the game even if I could. Thanks for the feedbacks.

Hey, really creative idea and seems like a really complex project, so well done and hope you build on this in future! I played a couple of game modes - flower and prisoner capture, which i think were great little twists on the game. Im not really good at chess so wont be able to comment on the AI but mechanically felt good. The artstyle is quite pleasing to look at.

Not sure how this integrates the theme of the jam unless its something like inversion of the chess rules? but seems like a stretch :D Audio was missing, but once you add it, it will definitely give it a lot more feel!

In prisoner mode i think i encountered a bug where it sort of got stuck on the AI turn and i had to restart the game after a few moves.

Overall i think this is a really exciting project and quite unique, so I hope you continue to work on this after the jam!

Developer

Hi, thanks for the analysis. The AI freeze is a known bug, related to the fact that craft a system to play chess is way more complex than I initially tought. But i have a version that should fix it, will upload after jam's end.  The audio is a pain point, i was thinking about some relaxing music or white noise but i am still not sure. And for the theme, yes, it's a subversion of millennial-long rules, of course is on topic :-P

this is a very nice and creative idea,  I really liked how you applied the theme however I think it might be a bit challenging for players who are not familiar with chess rules

Maybe adding some quick instruction

Good luck

Developer

May do that, thanks for the suggestion.

Love how the gamemodes are easy to understand so even begginers of chess could get it and how more advanced players can make it hard as well!

Oh wow. What an effort. So many unique ideas. The number of choices is almost overwhelming. I just had a glance, will have to return for a proper play. The AI seems… weak and kind of random. It let me win with Scholar’s mate several times. I noticed a few other rough edges here and there (not necessarily directly game-related), but totally understandable for a complex project like this. The theme feels like more an excuse to submit the game than an inspiration for it, but it is a fit if interpreted broadly.

Developer

Yes, the AI need a lot (A LOT) more work, right now is limited for 3 main reasons:

1) time (obviously)

2) It was way more difficult that anticipated for my skill level and

3) I need to bugfix a lot, if the IA is too strong I cannot reach the endgame :D

Thanks for the feedbacks, if you want to come back after the jam ends I am halfway for a version with a more refined AI. different board styles and international chess notation.
