What a fun playthrough, great job mate!!! The 40-45 hours of dev time really paid off, everything feels well polished and the game loop is complete. The city layout is great feels very realistic and the aesthetic effects of switching to night time (darker lighting, black marks on the ground) really sell the upside down feel. You did a good job of arranging all the models, to the point it doesn't even feel like you used an asset pack.
The combat is really fun and there's a impressive amount of depth for a week jam. There were some real intense MOB-style fights where I was mashing around on my keyboard desperately trying to stay alive, 5/5 on gameplay/engagement for me. Looting around for weapon upgrades between waves was a great design decision and not only gave a much needed breather between the action but also helped emphasize the danger of the upside down. The boss fight at the end was a nice cherry on top too. SFX/music worked really well for the jam; if you keep developing the game some more sfx for weapons/enemies/etc would be nice too.
The only real criticism I have is the lack of a mini-map (understandable for a jam time frame) leading to me getting lost in the city quite a bit. Especially looking for the portal between rounds. It was fun to explore the city looking for upgrades but I think something like a little compass arrow on the side pointing to the portal would have been a much appreciated quality of life change. This was probably my favorite entry in the jam so far, awesome work and keep it up!!
edit: also like another comment said the game wouldn't run on Firefox for me, but did run on Microsoft Edge no problem
Thank you so much for the kind words, Im really happy that you had fun:) thanks for the suggestions as well, will keep the pointers in mind!
I'm really impressed with how polished this was! One of my favorites so far! A few nitpicks if you're interested:
Other than that, I really enjoyed it. I beat it in a few minutes, I think I was at 1 HP when I beat it. I liked all the different power-ups around the city.
Oh also when I first tried to play it on Firefox it wouldn't work, but I switched to Edge and then it worked. In Firefox I got this error:
Thanks for playing and also for the feedback! Ill watchout for the Firefox error in future and try to figure it out. Glad you liked it :)
Amazing game, it was really fun to play! I'm glad the portal had audio cues because I got lost a few times and only found my way through the portal sound. For feedback I'd say it was a bit disorienting that the character's head followed my mouse movement rather than my walking direction. It would also be cool to have more connections between our world and the upside down (maybe while you look for power-ups, you can see statues that resemble the enemies, etc.) since the time between healing/power-up and fight is a bit long. Other than that, what a fun game and what an amazing execution in just 7 days!
Thanks a lot, glad you had fun! Yea the movement thing was a bit dicey, am thinking of ways to improve that haha. The statues resembling enemies is a really cool idea! Thanks for the feedback and suggestions :)
A good survivor type game with nice effects and fitting audio.
Thanks so much for the suggestions! For the movement, yes i agree the isometric view does pose challenges, i think just making everything 45 degrees would work. As for the searching of portals - ya that was a pretty common feedback given by everyone. Variety of enemies is a good idea - will definitely add to the variety and challenge! Again thanks for playing and the feedback:)
I actually loved this game. Reminded me of a game called ZombieVille USA 3D but with a twist to it. I agree with Cybershrimp that a mini map would work well, but this game was sweet. I loved the spells that you could cast, it gave the game more of a strategy feel to it.
Thanks for playing, glad you had fun!
Very creative and fun game ! Good luck
Thank you!
The art style is consistent but could use a few more colors. The streets feel a bit gray on their own. Maybe add some greenery (grass, plants, trees) that is green on the outside but withered in the upside down world. A minimap showing the portal's area would be also great. I only noticed in my second playthrough that you can hear the portal. It would be nice if, besides 1/2/3 keys, you could switch skills with the mouse scroll. Adding damage numbers for satisfaction would be awesome. Great game overall!
Thanks for playing and i agree with all your suggestions on the art and the minimap - great suggestions! so thanks for that as well! for switching weapons, you can also use right click which i thought was a bit easier than the mouse wheel and something I personally prefer but yes will keep the mouse wheel as an option too in future:)
Very cool, the aspects of the game are very well connected. I found the controls a little confusing, but the idea of the upside-down world is perfect.
Thanks a lot! were the movement controls confusing or the shooting? Do let me know so that I can try to improve in future:)
Nice game and great visuals and you have done a lot in this much amount of time which is really great.
Thank you so much for playing and glad you liked the visuals, i focused on that aspect more this time since that has been a weak area of mine:)
Congrats on the art, it's really nice and polished, I can't believe it's your first project!. I found it also fun to play, got lost in the map, too, and didn't quite understand all the different powers but it was a satisfying hack&slash experience overall.
Thank you so much for playing! I was lucky to have found great assets on the unity asset store which fit my idea. Also its the first finished 3d project ive made but not overall, had primarily done 2d before this:) sorry that you got lost on the map, i couldn't put in many indicators for the portals as i realized this quite late, but glad that you had a good time:)
Aha, I remember your Parallel Park game from another GoedWare Jam! That was awesome.
Congratulations on completing your first 3D project! The art is beautiful, the effects are very satisfying. Mechanics are simple, I liked being able to rotate weapons with a right click. This is not the kind of game I play often, and I’m not good at it, so I couldn’t finish it after a few tries—but I know, that’s just me. I missed explanations of what different weapons do, and spent longer than I think I should have trying to find the second portal (I didn’t go farther than that). Otherwise, well done.
Thank you so much for playing! As for finding the portal - i realized that this could be an issue quite late, so last minute i put in an audio effect which gets louder the closer you get! But its easy to miss, should have put in something else to make it clear for sure.
