wow, such a crazy experience, i loved the language-learning mechanic, super creative!
TERRIFIC GAME!
This was a really charming game. The whole alien postal office idea is super creative, and figuring out what each species is trying to say was actually really engaging. It feels great when you start recognizing patterns and slowly understanding the different symbols.
The presentation is also really nice. The characters have a lot of personality, and the blue blob is honestly SUPERRR adorable. The UI and overall vibe make the whole experience feel very relaxed and fun to spend time with.
Overall a really unique concept and a very memorable entry. Great work!
ALSO, if you like brain teasing, puzzle platformers, make sure to check out our game!!!
Thank you so much!!
This game is soo good, I loved the blue blob it's too cute. The concept is great! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
I like it a lot! It is innovative and distinctive. Visuals, audio and characters fit the game very well. A lot done in one week! Love the cat!
Thank you!!
This is my favorite game I have played this whole jam (I have played 75 games so far). I love this so much and played until I am pretty sure I have every character/word used in the game. If I had to give you one huge piece of feedback is that at some point fairly early into the game I realized that the planets are in order in the dictionary for every word based species, which means after 3 test tries for confirmation I was able to fill them all in and didn't have a mistake with any of those creatures for the rest of the game. HOWEVER the concept was so fun, I just kept playing to figure out all of the ancillary words that aren't actually necessary for getting the tasks correct. I also LOVED how you used phonetic overlaps to make some of the alphabets like d/t and (as a studier of Finnish) I especially appreciated what I believe I found was a p/v overlap. Such a wonderful entry, I wish this had more plays. Great art too!
This means a lot, thank you so much!!! I probably should've scrambled the words, so thanks for pointing that out :) I'm hoping I'll be able to work on this game more in the future!
Great concept! definitely chants of sennaar inspired, which is great :)
Good job!
Small bug detected: in the beginning if you don't send the first package to Kiskus but choos eanother location it seems you cant progress anymore.
It is very Chants of Sennaar inspired, every since playing it I had wanted to try eventually making my own language deduction game :)! Thanks for playing (and for letting me know about the bug)!
Took awhile to figure out but I love the idea and you did a great job putting this together in 1 week. Great work!
Thanks for playing!
This game has a lot of potential, and I had fun trying to translate things, but it may be a bit too difficult to figure it out without some additional tools. Luckily, I was able to find out a trick to figure out which symbols mean what places. Still can't figure out the letter ones though. Also, it was a little confusing at first what I was supposed to be doing, so a tutorial or some helpful arrows could help a lot. I also found that once I figured out what symbols meant what places, it was too easy to figure out where they wanted to go. It'd be cool if some of them didn't say the exact name of the places they wanted to go. Overall, I really like this game and think it has quite a bit of potential! I also really liked the character designs :D
Thanks for playing and for your feedback!! If I work on this more in the future, I definitely want to work on a better introduction to the gameplay :)
I had a lot of fun with the Cat-a-Log lol. I wasn't totally sure how to play though so I was struggling for a bit, which is when I ended up at the cat and just getting str8 wise from it. It's cool you built this in JS! Fun characters, I'm impressed you built this yourself!
Thanks for playing! Hopefully I can make it a bit easier to play if I work on it again in the future :)
Puzzles are on the tedious side, but the UI is really slick and and makes it easy to try different letters and words. The cute story and art add much enjoyment. Thank goodness you can just fiddle with it until you figure it out! (no timers no penalties--yay!)
Thanks for playing! I'm hoping that I can make the puzzle aspects a bit easier if I work on this game some more in the future!
Pretty awesome you did this from scratch in a JavaScript canvas. The into/UI presentation is really polished and fun to look at. It immediately gave the game its charm. The whole alien post-office is really creative too and trying to decipher what different species are saying instead of just clicking the obvious option makes it feel unique. I liked the handbook system and the little cat-a-log touches too. It added to the quirkiness of the world in a good way. Really cool proof-of-concept, and very creative direction to take for a jam.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it :D
Interesting starting concept of figuring out the transition mechanic and searching for clues around it. Overall vibe of the game feels very chill. Nice work!
Thanks!!
What a cool game! it reminds me of a boardgame called mastermind.
The music, art and NPCs were all super chilled.
Thank you!
Wow, this is such an interesting game concept! I couldn't finish it all, but I'm totally hooked. I love this art style, and the music adds such an immersive touch. Great job! :)
Enjoyment: Quirky little submission, which i enjoyed my time spent with it.
Gameplay: Solid puzzle type game, would have love to see more than the destination as neccessary to solve part, but you already mentioned that in the description. I did not complete the complete handbook, so I'm not certain for sure, but i guess thats the "end of game"-condition ?
Innovation: Very refreshing go at the genre, felt very crossword-ish, in a sense the more mysteries/fields were solved the easier the rest gets.
Theme: Solid interpretation of the theme in the intergalactic mail office!
Visuals: The intro was nicely done - nearly missed it, as for my first playthrough it was just the solid color screen - quite liked the individual species. Stylized GUI to fit the rest would be a nice addition.
Audio: Strong / Solid choice of music - the loop wasn't getting annoying over the time.
Thanks so much for your feedback and for playing the game!
I like the mail delivery system! It was fun sending off the packages to different worlds. It was a little complicated to figure out the translations but overall I had fun playing this one!
Thanks!
This was really cool! I loved that there were different translation methods, esp since the word-substitution ones were quick to translate once you got the places figured out :D The character-substitution ones were harder, which def kept me going for longer since I wanted to know what they said. UI was a little confusing when starting the game, but this was great! :D
Thank you!!
Good work! I found it pretty challenging and spending most of my time just guessing where something is supposed to go, hoping for the cat to give me the translations for locations. Luckily there doesn't seem to be any actual penalty right now.
Maybe if it was set up as a shift? Like you spend a shift/day at work doing X amount of tasks, then can look over notes. Too low of a rating and you're fired, etc.
Thanks, I think that's a great idea! I was hoping to have some more progression mechanics, but ended up running out of time
