How does the game fit the theme?
I think that a building in an otherworldly setting would definitely be considered strange, haha. I really love classic and cosmic horror themes, and I believe that fits well with the theme "Strange Places." And I loved the theme for my fisrt game jam haha, really.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Some textures not made by me. The main codes was written from scratch during the jam. However, I did rely on some extra scripts I had created before and keep in my personal library. This includes some of Unity UI tools and the movement/camera system.

How many people worked on the game?

I love the "grotesque" vibe the environment gives! The texturing especially makes it look absolutely disgusting. Shame that you couldn't finish the game, reading the description, there's definitely some thought put behind the game's design.

I saw that you had a devblog teasing an update - If you manage to put that out I'll return to play it once again just because I'm curious what's on your mind. Usually, you won't get nearly as much attention post-jam than during the voting period, which is also what provokes me to do this.

Good stuff!

Many thanks, friend! Definitally I want to turn this prototype into a larger project. I wish I had more time to make the 3D models more polished, with the proper texel density and resolution. And of course, instead of stretching objects directly in Unity, I should have used the created ones properly created assets for each section.

Even though the concept is small in scope, the idea was that players would uncover the correct instrument combinations by interpreting cryptic texts. These texts would hint at emotions (linked to each instrument’s character) and colors (each instrument tied to a specific color).

For example: “Here live the birds that died when that blue sky turned red like blood on that autumn day!”

In this case, the highlighted clues would be “blue” and “red.” Depending on the riddle, there could be 4–6 possible combinations, and the challenge would grow as synonyms and indirect references were introduced. The progression would feel like moving through different “worlds,” a short but layered journey.

The mechanic is meant to stay simple and concise, since I don’t see it stretching into a long game — at least not for now.

Following you too! Again, thanks and greetings!

the atmosphere is incredible! I really love the PS1-style retro visuals and the 'Hellscape' vibe—it fits the 'Strange Places' theme perfectly. The way the music reacts to the instrument choices is a very unique and interactive touch. You should be proud of what you achieved in such a short time! I’d be honored if you could check out my game and share your rating as well. Great work

Developer(+1)

Many thanks! I love PSX aesthetics too! And I’ll can try our game, really ^^

Submitted(+1)

Well, although it's a short one, still looks and feels pretty solid. Reminds me of old style ps1 games, glad you've managed to put all this together in one day and got a stylish working prototype.

Developer

Many thanks for your words, man! I agree ^^

Submitted(+1)

This is a really cool base world! I especially like the way the path is revealed by both the lighting and walkways floating in to place. We feel you pain, too--we massively trimmed our scope this jam which is never fun. That being said, this is a great jumping off point and I'd love to see how you develop it in the future. Nice job!

Developer(+1)

First, thanks for playing! And yeah, very saddly, but I believe we can bring a more complete version of our games. And I’ll definitely try your game too! ^^

Good luck for you!

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! Love retro and horror! Nice environment also!

I am sorry but I could not finish it. I have hearing sensitivity, and could not play for long...

Developer

Thanks for your comment, bro! And about this, the complete version will come with options to acessibility ^^ Thanks again

Submitted(+1)

the horror atmosphere is definitely there. you just need to make a nice horror game in it.

Developer

Many thanks! Eventually, we’ll be able to make a complete and serious game! ^^

I love so much this visual style, as a fan of Silent Hill 1 and Resident Evil 1. So you made a great job in this kind of game, I did read your description, I totally understand what you said, it's really important to participate even if you think the game isn't complete, so you can learn more and interact with community, which is one of my favourite parts in the jams I participate, and people on Brackeys Discord are really nice, so I'm glad you delivered your game. I can see potential, since you made the visuals and sounds really cool, I liked how I could choose instruments and the music would react to my choices, I just wanted more time to read haha, 3 seconds is really fast, I didn't even know what was happening in the first 3 times the instruments screen appeared to me. And also, I understand your work with the camera movement, it is really smooth, but I recommend extra caution with that, the movement was letting me a little dizzy, but I completed the game without more problems. Congrats and continue joining in more jams, jams are really cool experiences!

Developer(+1)

HHi, that’s really flattering, thank you, dude! And I Totally agree, for the next jams I’ll take care about more acessibility options!

Many thanks for the feedback ^^

Submitted(+1)

Even without being finished, I think the overall concept is great! I love the concept of starting backwards

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Many thanks, man!

You can check out my post about the original concept if you’d like

Submitted(+1)

Dude you knocked it out of the park on the Environment its so gruesome and really hits that strange places vibe!! Also gameplay loop is rlly cool, hope u get to do more with it in the future :))

Developer

Thanks, man! A new improved and remastered version will be available soon!

Submitted(+1)

Oooo I know you didn't get to finish this, but definitely very unique and interactive. I liked picking the different instruments, but I wish I had more time to pick. And certainly fits the strange place theme lol

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! You can check out my post about the original concept if you’d like ^^

Submitted(+1)

Quite the strange experience.  I felt tension feeling like I needed to make a selection without understanding my choice- but I think maybe it affected the music in the next section?  It felt like a wild transitory experience- very trippy.

Cool project.

Developer

Yes, it’s this! ^^ The choice change the music almost in realtime!

You can check out my new post about the original concept if you’d like :D

Submitted(+1)

Strange place indeed. Didn't understand the fast instruments choices but the atmosphere is really nice

Developer

First, thanks!

About the gameplay: you need to choose any combination of instruments within 3 seconds to overcome the obstacles and change the background music almost in realtime. Well, this is NOT the original concept, but with only a few hours I couldn’t do much :/

Submitted(+1)

Honestly this is great for only 20 hours work! And you got it running in WebGL. It definitely has the PS1 vibe you were going for. You should be proud of what you achieved in the time you had :)  I still enjoyed the relaxing walk through your hellscape ^_^

Developer(+1)

Many thanks! I liked “hellscape” hahaha. Who knows, maybe in the future I’ll be able to re-make the game with the original concept in mind (not this current abomination haha) and with more time to work on models and a decent UV mapping (the texels are literally fighting each other lol).

Creppy world 🥩 aaaah D:
Congrats, even though it's incomplete, it's worth the effort. 👏👏

Developer(+1)

Many thanks, man 🥩 hahaha :D We could totally hop into one of those quick jams sometime.

Submitted(+1)

Interesting interpretation of the topic, I like it

Developer

Thanks, I’m happy you liked it ^^

I really like the atmosphere of this game! It almost felt like I was in a dream, and the background music complemented the visuals quite nicely. I am a sucker for retro graphics in games lol.

Oh and congrats on your first game jam! The first one is always the hardest, but I think you did a great job designing the atmosphere of the game. Sure, the gameplay is a little limited, but I find that the visuals, atmosphere, and sound design make up for it. This almost feels like interactive art.

The biggest feedback would be to make it more clear what the player is supposed to do. I know you put a detailed explanation in the game description, but in my experience people don't read those. It's better to put concise instructions right in the middle of the game. Like if in the beginning you put an epigraph like "HEMOPHONY —The sound of blood" it'd really set the mood. Then the instrument select screen should have a longer timer, maybe 15 seconds, because instead of reading the quotes that were on screen I was frantically trying to choose what instrument I wanted.

All in all, this is a great first game jam entry (much better than my first jam, that's for sure!). Great vibes, and great music.

Developer

Oh, guy, many many thanks for your words! It’s very important for me!

I really think this prototype could become a “serious” game. Even though it’s small, the original idea was for the player to decipher the right instrument combination through enigmatic texts referencing colors (each instrument would have a specific color).

I really think this prototype could become a “serious” game. Even though it’s small, the original idea was for the player to decipher the right instrument combination through enigmatic texts referencing colors (each instrument would have a specific color).

Just for example: “Here live the birds that died when that blue sky turned red like blood on that autumn day!”

In this case, the “keyword-colors” would be blue and red. There could be up to 4 or 6 possible combinations and the difficulty would increase because it would also use synonyms (and not only colors) with the idea of progressing through different ‘worlds’ — kind of like a short journey. It’s meant to be something simple and concise, since I don’t think this mechanic could be stretched into a long game, at least not for now.

Submitted(+1)

I did not get what the images of the instruments meant and the textboxes went away to fast for me :( an option to adjust sound would also be nice, it was really loud for me :)

Visuals were very cool tho! Nice artstyle

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! I made it (sadly) in a just few hours (around 20 hours), but I totally agree! Maybe in the future I’ll try a new project with more time and polishment ^^

Submitted(+1)

Cool game. I liked the visuals and the idea overall :)

Developer

Thanks! I’ll try to recreate it and make a more polished prototype in the future!

Submitted(+1)

cool game!

Developer

Thanks, dude! :D

Submitted(+1)

Super weird, in the good way. ahah

Developer

Thanks, buddy! I’ll try your game soon too ^^
