Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to look at the playthrough again in the future here's the VOD timestamped to your game

good job on tackling a 3d setup, the mechanics were well put together, creative in the placement of words and clues! thanks for rating my game! /jam/brackeys-15/rate/4313134

Lowkey one of the better 3d games for the jam :3 The dithering effect was cool and the idea was really unique. Some feedback on when you get a name wrong would be about the only thing i could really ask for. maybe its like wordle where if you get it roughly in the same are,  it changes colors? I guess the hints also there though. Overall really well done!!!!!!!!!!!

Really cool idea, the Obra Dinn-style deduction but with literally "collecting" words from the environment is such a clever twist. I had fun wandering around and noticing little details (what people point at, objects on tables, etc.) The dithered look and overall art direction all fit well together, and the jukebox being interactable is a great little detail. Also ran surprisingly smooth for me in WebGL. Awesome work!

Enjoyment: I had fun and was intrigued... so much I wanted to solve it and did it. Clues are fairly good to get and overall well designed loop.

Gameplay: Easy controls, even on web I faced no real issues, except maybe carrying around to many words. Speaking of carrying to many words, at my first try I paid too little attention to the hints and hence created a mess, would have loved a reset/restart button to go to the initial placement of words.

Innovation: Quite refreshing take on a puzzling game, can see myself the one or other mechanic to spice gameplay further, but I like it.

Theme: I like the meta-interpretation of the theme, not going the more obvious option and "simply" create a strange diner. Additionally I like how you also included the theme into the main game mechanic. Strongest category for the submission in my opinion.

Visuals: The models were nicely done considering the short amount of available time. Really like how the different interactables, fonts and letters are consistent yet different. Nice job on visuals.

Audio: I really like the jukebox being interactable and having a way to choose your jam. Thanks for the sliders of the audio and sfx.

I like the uncommon mechanics of this game and the dithered look. It was enjoyable!

Nice! This was a really cool game and I would've loved to see more levels. It was really fun figuring everything out and I really like the picking and placing words mechanic. Good job!

Ooh, great job! I like games like this and had a fun time. The mechanic of taking words from the level and watching them disappear and enter your clipboard is really innovative and well executed here (with nice SFX to sell it as well). Fun visual style as well. I think playing a few levels like this with different word categories and increasing difficulty would make a nice full game.

The constructive feedback part:

  • The clipboard takes up a lot of the view when it's open, getting in the way of picking words sometimes. I'm sure you're aware and might have tweaked it with more time.
  • Slight confusion, not major: I solved the character with the yellow info box first, and knew it was correct based on the sound cues etc. But then after solving the character with the green box correctly, I felt a bit unsure for a second looking back at the yellow box. Green = correct, yellow = caution? Then realised that each character has a different colour. Just something to be aware of, with certain colours having such strong pre-built associations.
  • I really loved the metaphorical layer of your theme interpretation, and that feeling of being in a strange place between what you do for a living and what you dream of doing is very relatable (especially for us hobbyist game devs!) That said, I think a few extra/larger windows showing the diner underwater would have really sold the more surface-level theme. I didn't notice the current underwater window background at first.

The game was so enjoyable! One of my favourites, I think, especially since I love the genre. You've worked well with the genre while introducing a new innovation of your own, so really well done!

really nice graphics, nice game!

The idea was great! The mechanics of interacting with the words were polished! I would like more feedback in the game, because at the beginning I didn't know exactly what to do, overall, good job!

Great work on creating a completed game! It takes a lot of work and polish to do so, so good job.

Some of my favorite things about this game is the unique gameplay, taking words from the environment and collecting them to determine the identity of the people in the place. I had a lot of fun!

Although this is a game jam, would have loved to see some animations to make the place feel alive. It helps build up the atmosphere. Regardless, the core game mechanics are interesting and unique. Would've loved to see more puzzles.

Overall, this kept me wanting more :)

First of all, you finished a game that looks great overall — and achieving that in just 7 days is impressive. Great job!

Things I liked:

  • It feels like a fresh and unique idea for a jam game, and it’s been very well executed. Congrats on that!

  • The art style is cohesive and polished, and the music and SFX do their job well. Everything works smoothly, which is not always easy to achieve in a jam.

  • The difficulty is high enough to be challenging, but not so high that it feels frustrating. The hint system is a great addition — it helps guide the player without simply giving away the answers.

Constructive Feedback:

  • The camera controls can feel a bit awkward at times. You sometimes need to place the clipboard in very specific spots to see certain words clearly, as it can block part of the view. Improving this would greatly enhance the overall user experience.

Pretty cool ! I can see you're Obra Dinn fans because you not only made a similar deduction game, but also used a similar dithering shader ;) -- careful though, it got in the way of readability of small words e.g. on the diner's menu.

Unless there was some easter egg I missed, I'd say it'd be fine to just copy words on the clipboard rather than removing/exchanging them since modifying the documents doesn't seem to have any effect. (That said, I would also absolutely love if the core mechanic was to modify documents by swapping words until some conditions are met. It sounds like a hard mechanic to design around though, you may want to put some limits on which words can be moved).

Honestly, although you claim what's strange is the character's job vs. what they'd want to do, I found the diner to be pretty strange itself !

Anyway, it was fun !

Really liked the concept and message :) Think it would be nice if you could easily remove words, since on my initial playthrough I added everything I could see to my clipboard and that was a big mistake haha

Interesting game, grabbing words from the environment to rebuild the story is a creative mechanic. Finding clues were engaging and it encouraged to pay attention to detail. The clipboard can feel a bit intrusive at times, but overall it’s a very polished jam game.

Loved it! The clues were the right amount of subtle and I felt like a big brain for figuring some of them out ^_^ The way you interact with the words and the clipboard is very cool as well. Great job!

Music to my ears :)

Hey, that's a very nice game! What a bright idea to collect words to solve a little puzzle. You honestly have to be attentive to details to win. Visuals are one of the best parts of the game; I love them. The clipboard was a bit annoying, so maybe making it smaller would be nice imo. The colors of the game are also very fitting for the environment.

Developer

The clipboard is definitely a pain point we're actively revisiting.
Good to hear you enjoyed the game and visuals!

I really liked your game! The clues were not so easy to find, but I really loved to be able to take words from everything haha funny and entertaining. That's what a good game is! This is a high score. The only thing to improve could be the visuals (they were good to be honest, but the material reflections could have been a bit more realistic): it's probably just personal taste.

Developer(+1)

We had a lot of fun swapping words around too during testing just making silly sentences, glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+2)

The clues felt really well planned out and the challenge level just right for this size of game! Well done!

Developer

Challenge level was definitely tricky to think about for a jam, glad you found it fitting!

Woah!! this game is just mind blowing, The first one was easy but the other two took some. It was really engaging, and I really completed the game. Really Excellent Idea, gameplay, visuals!! Keep it up!!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words :)
