How does the game fit the theme?
The game is about sentient mushrooms brought about by a magical cave. The mushrooms are fighting back against an infection trying to take over the magic that runs the cave. The game fits the theme as a cave that can bring about sentient mushrooms is inherently a strange place.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
We had the font, sound effects and A* pathfinding grid from a while ago
The music was from the asset store - 'Colossal Game Music Collection' by The Indie Devs Nation on Unity Asset Store https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/audio/music/orchestral/colossal-game-music-collection-88190

Pretty cool! I liked the art especially. The gameplay got repetitive sometimes though, I feel like maps with more segmented layouts where your troops are far apart from the start would make it a bit more interesting. I liked how the different troops were balanced, each having their own strengths.
The premise and the visuals are great, it’s like watching a surreal cartoon.
Few bitter points:
Overall, cool game, with some more polish it surely can be an itch hit!
Great theme, the mushrooms are great and there was some decent variety. I couldn't tell if the enemies were supposed to be attacking, they just ran around the map in my playthrough. Good start!
The game is solid. The tactical mushroom soldiers are sweet. My main criticism is that it feels like the enemies just wander around. You spend a lot turns just chasing them down.
It's a very sweet game. I just wished the lore text wasn't so fast
But very enjoyable!
I love tactics games! Great execution. I had a bit of an issue with the ranges of my mush guys but more around the lack of foresight regarding what tiles I'm aiming at and if it's a valid tile to target. Otherwise it was smooth and cool!
Thank you for playing and the kind words! I agree with what you're saying, feedback/clarity are definitely something we'll be revisiting post-jam
Loved the core idea of the game!
Thank you for trying our game! :)
This is a fun concept for a game, looks really polished. Would have liked a little more difficulty. Still had a lot of fun, great game!
Thank you for the kind words! Difficulty could definitely be increased a tad but glad to hear you enjoyed it nonetheless!
Really enjoyed the game. Couple of suggestions for improvement, highlight which character is selected, only zoom in when there is an attack to sell the impact, play a sound effect when the play is hit (audio feedback. Slight pause between levels, and maybe level indicator.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Definitely agree with the feedback given and will be sure to take it in stride going forward!
the entire game is well designed and initiated it looks feels and is as snappy as possible, i dont like the repetition of clicking buttons but i guess i am not a turn-based player so it doesn't matter, the code feels developed and polished its great.
Thank you for playing! I think you're right regarding the repetitious nature of clicking the buttons, its definitely something I'm going to look at after the jam, try inspiring some more fluency in the gameplay.
Art is pretty good. Gameplay is cool, just got a feedback that it lacking some feedbacks or stuff when i attack (i wasn't sure i was doing well the actions), but yeah, overall, it's good !
Feel free to test our game ! (there's pixel art too !)
Thanks! The action could definitely use some feedback to the player to let them know what they've done for sure. We'll be sure to test your game as well!
This must have required a lot of separate systems to make work, wow. Incredible that you were only two people behind it, especially considering the amount of homemade assets too. Impressive work and a very enjoyable game (I also really like turn-based combat in general).
Thanks for the feedback and kind words! It's our first time attempting a turn based strategy game so I'm glad it hit its mark with a fan of the genre :)
Nice, one more turn based game, plays really well, i like the OP cannon guys :D, id want to have end turn button not to use all my actions as i know i wont be able to shoot, helps with strategic decisions, and quicker gameplay.
Thank you! I have to admit I think the cannon's my favourite as well xD Completely agree about the end turn button
Cute style, I like it
Thanks for the kind words!
Cute game, I like the visuals a lot! I think the combat is a little bit shallow, but it's still pretty polished. overall nice job!
Thanks for the kind words and feedback! We were looking to incorporate some character abilities but started to run out of time unfortunately. Something to look into for our future projects!
It's cool, the art is great. my only problems are the enemy ai often acting like a moving target, and the balance. the sniper is super strong and the tank is weak imo
Thanks for the feedback! I agree about the enemy AI, it fell a bit short due to time constraints. The tank is strong in his own right as he has an AOE attack, but the level design didn't suitably account for this
