I don’t know, but somehow I get the feeling that there’s a subtle hint of criticism toward the gaming industry woven into the game.
Not sure where that’s coming from though.
Anyway, I really like the game’s humor :D
I like the concept of having a simple base idea and then seeing what different ways you can play with it, which I believe is what you did here.
Some of the puzzled boggled my mind but I liked the concept a lot. I got to 8 before my brain couldn't handle it anymore!
Thank you for playing ! The last one is a bit of a trap, actually you just had to make the first step, but it's ok to stop there, I should have hinted that only the first move mattered...
This was an interesting little narrative game.
I was able to make it all the way through without using any of the options but it was great that they were provided.
Only hiccup I had was with some terminology with the "pairs" puzzle. But from the other comments I can assume you're not a native speaker and I was able to discern what you meant after 1 failed attempt. I think the wording you were looking for was even numbered tiles.
I liked the imagery for the map, but didn't turn it on until I had already finished the game because I wasn't paying much attention, I think maybe it would be nice as a default and then turning to simple tiles would be an accessibility option.
Nice work on the entry.
Thank you for your feedbacks ! For the "pair"/"impair" I added a note in the description, but great job finding by yourself.
For the map, I had the idea at first to make a test to just test the accessibility options and make comment on the fact that the two "accessibility" options were a bit useless since the map already had the the path on it... But I wasn't really happy with the map so instead if you keep showing it and hiding it to O.T he speaks about making a better map for next game jam... But happy you still found it ok, I'm not confident in my "art", so I somehow progressed a bit.
I see that you went hard for the accessibility haha, I respect it. The game was fun too. The graphics suited the game and there were lot of different small animations and reactions to stuff that was happening. I liked it.
Thank you ! I was a bit afraid that people would block on the puzzle which are a bit trollish and not really interesting, or wouldn't like the text and would just prefer to do some puzzle. So I decided to allow to skip everything (except the end because I needed a special trigger). But I think that's fit well with the rest of the game.
Prime example of making a fun game with very little assets. I liked the meta-narrative as a commentary on the current state of the gaming industry, but some of the text had typos and weird phrasing, I would recommend double-checking it or maybe involving someone as a proof-reader. The puzzles were nice, just the right amount of annoying. Not gonna lie, I was relieved when my guy skipped the last one. Just out of curiosity, could it be completed if I didn't make any mistakes, or was it hard-coded to skip? I liked the concept of having the puzzles on the exact same level, only with different mechanics.
Thanks again ! I actually had people playtesting but they all speak the same language as me, the weird phrasing or 'on-english word weren't really a problem for them :/ I guess I need to find a native english speaker for this kind of task. Let's pretend O.T isn't english either.
For the last puzzle it's hard-coded, getting to the end required making only the first right step so you didn'tmake any mistake. That's a bit the lesson of the last level: sometimes making the first step is all you need to do even if things further along the way seem complicated. The rules are contradictory but do not apply to the first move, unless I made a mistake.
Thank you for the feedbacks !
Funny puzzle/rhythm/idle game with some very annoying ads! How the level changed every time was cool, it would be nice to have some even harder challenges to perform. The story was taking a bit too long for me, so I only looked at the text for a short time before continuing (not skipping as to avoid the consequence), maybe it would be useful to measure how long the player takes to read the dialogue and measure it against the expected average to see if people are not properly reading it. Music was quite fun to listen to.
Thank you for your feedbacks ! I totally understand not wanting to read all the lines, the "shut up" button is not there just as a joke. I keep track of how many times the player skip the monologs or the levels but it only change a few lines at the end. But I didn't want to punish player for that, I prefered to give the possibility to decide what kind of experience you want.
Also tracking read time could be complicated because reading speed can vary a lot from one person to another.
For harder puzzle, it would mean a longer game and I think it's the right size for most people as it is. I also don't think very highly of the "complicated" puzzle I designe. It wouldn't be hard to make optional ones though.
Fun and quirky. With a little twist on the rules on each time. I love how simple is this yet fun at the same time.
Interesting mix of puzzles for one set path!
Fun little game, ended up playing until the end (got very scared when I saw #9 haha)
Interesting satirical commentary. The character was on point with their monologue and humor. I was positively surpirsed, and really glad, when the PC just run from the final test.
Nice sattire of a corporate world, marketing requests are the best :D
Controls sometimes weren't as responsive as I would like (i.e I pressed arrow to early in between tiles and it did nothing and had to press again), but overall good implemention.
Rythm level wasn't working properly so had to skip it.
Congrats on the submission!
This was a really fun game! The story is very entertaining and that last level had me terrified for my poor brain
My comment desapeared so I'ml rewritting it!
Just imagine that i'm tactfull and funny ok?
Great game
The test lab is so good to build movement library
IDK if you buildt text effect yourself but they are neat (bumping graphics score for that, it's so rare)
allowing rebinds would have been great
I had issue after skipping the rythm test (ADHD made me click too fast, sound cue are great to make impatient peepoos wait) the power idle was stuck
speaking of ADHD, a way to cancel animation to go faster would be awesome!
All in all great submition! loved it!
also : i'm rewritting it, OT is great, shut up option is pure comedy but I would dare shut them up.
Thank you for your feedbacks and for liking the game !
For the next it's actually prettu basic. I used RichTextLabel and activate bbcode. You can then simply add tags like [wave]some words[/wave] or [rainbow]other words[/rainbow] to apply the effects. I went a bit heavy handed on that but it was to help give intensity and personality to O.T.
I guess laerning to do rebind wouldn't be a bad idea. Or at least giving options to use wasd keys...
For the sound cue, I was a bit worried it would have sounded really weird with the music offbeat in the bckground. I considered to stop it just for this test an put sounds, but I lost myself among all the things I wanted to not while not pressuring myself too much.
I'll try to look into the bug, one playtester had something similar once but I couldn't reproduce it.
For the animation canceling I guess double tapping could have been a way to implement it, but it's about a really small journey so I'm not sure I'd do that. ButI guess the move speed can be a bit frustrating. Slow is good sometimes and levels can be skipped entirely if you don't want to do this.
Thank you again for all these feedbacks ! Don't be afraid of giving you're giving your opinion, you're being constructive that's good enough.
Great game! I loved the metacommentary about the casualization and enshittification of games and every new challenge / chapter kept me playing and interested. The reduced artstyle may be interpreted as lazy but I really enjoy it and fits the commentary of expecting normal people to put in a lot of love and effort into game dev without a lot of recognition
Thank you for playing !
To be fair the "reduced artstyle" is due to me not really being able to draw so I tried to make it simple and efficient instead of doing terrible pixel art on paint as usual. I hesitated to draw a bit more decoration on the wall but the white room kinda fit a test room, so that's ok I guess.
Though there is a terrible pixel drawing "hidden" in the game.
i will add it to my favs list and revisit it later. I will keep my eyes peeled for the artpiece O.O
This was AWESOME. I love games where it's the same thing but the theme changes to change the gameplay entirely (some of my first jams were like that)
The Shut up O.T. button was really funny to me, and the O.T.'s random complements were great.
The ending was also really funny.
Really nice game! I was laughing the whole time.
hahaha it felt like I was really working on AAA games, with all those ""just-make-it-simple" mechanics, and there were nice criticism for the games industry in general.
I totally agree with O.T. in terms of "how big companies try to fucking monetize everything "
nice addition the "clear test button"
also, is that "golden path" a reference to Leto the Second? if so, you got my attention and we should talk some time hahaha
I don't know, simple but very effective and imaginative entry and nice ending too!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game ! I don't work for the game industry but still in a big company with a lot of organization problems, I was venting a bit on my own job...
For the golden path, I'm not really sure why I picked that up. It seemed like obvious to me to call it like that but I read Dune something like 25 years ago (realizing that instantaneously gave me grey hair, I resent you for that). It's totally possible it that expression was stucked in my mind for so long but it wasn't a voluntary reference, sorry :/ Though I should read Dune again, seems like it didn't age too bad.
I'm sorry about the grey hair feeling, you're not alone believe me ;) with the small difference that there's no hair tu turn grey anymore! Hahah Have a good jam dude!
haha it was an entertaining experience! I think the little fun dialog added to the experience and creativity of using the same level in different ways were interesting! good job on the submission!
Nice brain teaser puzzle game. The ending really surprised me haha! Writing wasn't for me but that part got me good
Thank you for playing through the game. Writing can be hit or miss and the puzzles are a bit boring without it. But if the ending got a smile out of you, that's already something and it's enough for me !
Great game! Its impressive the number of ways of moving the player along the path you came up with. The game was funny too.
My time was 6:21 and I thought the hardest one was number 5 just because it took me a bit to understand the "pair" tiles.
Very interesting take on the theme. Very meta. The writing was also very fun. I was beginning to rage at the pair tiles test because I just couldn't figure it out until I read the page. Well done overall, thanks for sharing it :)
