This is such a good idea! All the minigames were really fun and I wish the game was longer. The graphics style is super funny too!
An original idea, I think the comedy is a let down, there needs to be more of a reaction, but other than that i love the minigames style you've taken here, and the final screen is INCREDIBLE. Full review here
thank you so much for playing and reviewing the game on stream. I totally agree with the comedy aspect but as you mentioned, it's a game jam and there is only so much I can implement during a work week. But I assume it would've been good to just add some reaction besides "hey", "stop it", from the brother. much appreciated, thanks for playing!
Wow, my brother takes a lot after our dad! This was a delight, and very nostalgic. To this day, I do the jumping-man-running-next-to-the-car game. The father carrying me inside in his arms at the end was touching and so true to life
One technical note -- when I tried to play this on Firefox, for some reason both mouse up AND mouse down wen up, so I ended up just staring at the ceiling. Switching to Chrome fixed this. I also found that some games didn't load at all in Firefox, like Beeline and at least one other, so at least this one loaded! Not really your fault, probably something with the Godot web compiler, but this was my only complaint.
Hi! Thanks for pointing it out. I had the exact same issue on Firefox and Linux while for some playtesters it seemed to work fine on FF. I thought I had added it to my description but I didn't - I'll edit it so it's there! and thanks for playing! :)
Oh yeah I was using FF on Linux first. Worked great on Chromium on Linux, though!
And I must admit I didn't read the description, so if that was already there, my bad!
no it wasn't there but I had send it to the playtesters so I thought I just copy pasted that controls text. so thanks for pointing it out! :)
Very charming! I love the angry-sibling.
The GameInfant is ever so nostalgic. It was one of the few things I could do in a car without getting carsick. Not sure why.
I particularly liked the jumping over posts minigame. I definitely remember staring out the window like that, and controlling it with mouse movement is such a good way to capture that.
The annoying the sibling bit felt a bit straightforward. Maybe the target could move each time?
Overall, this was charming, and very well executed!
thanks so much for playing it. it's super interesting to see how controversial the controls for the jumping minigame are, some didn't like it (also during the playtesting phase). and I agree with your notion on the brother! I already saw the cow of your game in the submissions list but haven't gotten around to download it yet. hopefully today! cheers :)
thank you so much for doing this game! I think we all can relate to each and every one of the things going on here. even the moustached sibling hahaha
pretty good take, very nice ending.
you made me smile through all the experience :)
thanks so much for playing it :) making it relatable was the main goal
btw! I forgot! did you get inspired by road 96 ?? I'm really curious about this. If not, I have the feeling that you're gonna like that game
nope, but I believe I've seen it on steam. I'll check it out, thanks for the pointer :)
I really liked your take on the theme! It felt nostalgic, being stuck in a car and bored out of your mind with your sibling. I never annoyed mine by throwing paper balls at them but it was fun to do so in game. I enjoyed being able to play with the little handheld console too, those were the good old days eh? Unfortunately, the window game was unintuitive. I figured it out, but having to essentially smash yourself onto the ground before being able to "jump" a post was... weird and didn't feel good. I get what you were going for though, and I like the idea behind it. Oh and I loved the first music track! Very catchy! I honestly didn't want to change the radio station, haha.
I was actually disappointed when it ended, I wanted more things to do! Good work!
thanks so much for playing it! In a next iteration I'd definitely change the jumping game since the controls are super controversial
Wow, three games in one! My favourite was the imaginary jumping one. Really like the idea of looking at things to trigger the minigames, you could have had buttons, or triggered them in a set order but the way you've done it is great.
Funny game too, my sibling looks a little old. And the end screen was really nicely done.
thanks for the feedback and for playing it! :)
It's cool to see how differently the jam theme is interpreted :)
It might have been fun to have the option to converse with the sibling or the father.
Something along the lines of “Are we there yet?”.
Unfortunately, I was unable to progress beyond the window mini-game, and my highscore did not exceed 2.
The posts came rushing in too fast ^^"
thank you for the feedback! The "Are we there yet" question would have been really funny, thanks for the hint! :)
The window game was very controversial and thanks for pointing out the speed issue, which can also be an accessibility problem. I thought about making it flappy bird but was too stubborn to change it. I think once you get the flow it works but haven't tried it on a trackpad etc.!
Gave me some nice nostalgia for my childhood. Really hit the nail on the head, all you needed to add was to make it night time so you could only see the screen of your gameinfant as the street lights passed by.
Really original idea and a great take on the theme, the minigames aren't anything too amazing on their own but the game shines as a sum of it's parts.
Great work.
Edit: Also not sure if this has been pointed out already but the title your game has on Itch is "How to SurviCe a roadtrip" instead of Survive
thanks so much for playing the project. I agree, the mini games are not super exciting, and I tried to go for a general feeling + solo devving next to a job is a bit tricky sometimes. I would have loved to include some more games, like drawing, etc. but I would have had to look into some tech stuff I didn't have time for.
love the idea about the screen reflection! :) in the current state you'd just see a headless humanoid mesh though haha
Haha this was good fun. Very orignal take on the theme - more of a set of mini-games than a pure game per se, but feels like you really took the game jam philosophy at heart
thanks for giving it a go! a bit bored by conventional games so I tried to go more for a feeling than mechanics per se
A true road trip experience - Playing my Gameboy annoying the crap out of my siblings and asking my dad to change the radio 500 times. 10/10 would road trip again
Very unique take on the theme! Probably the most original game I have played in this jam. It was short but all the mini games were fun and very true to life. Well done! Thanks for making and sharing it :)
thank you so much for playing it and the kind words <3
Fun little minigame collection, I really like how you interpreted the theme here!
thank you kindly! :)
Really unique entry. The ending was very sweet. Definitely something we all did as a tired kid. Great job!
thanks so much, that's what I was going for!
I think this is the most original entry in the jam, really enjoyed it, especially annoying little brother. I did get stuck on the minigame with the obstacles, couldn't exit it and had to close the game. Is there a score goal or it's until we want to play something else?
hey, the score goal is 15! I think this was the most contencious game for the playtesters. you're supposed to hit the ground and jump over the obstacles with mouse movements. I considered making it a flappy bird thingy but I really COULDN'T (didn't want to). thank you so much for playing bird friend!
Short and fun game, I really like your interpretation of the theme. My favourite minigame was the jumping over obstacles. Also, cute ending.
super fun and goofy game- I love the recreation of the parkour figure out the window lol. I had an issue with some jittery camera movement, and not being able to recapture the mouse after pressing esc, but other than that i love the silly mood of the game, and nice retro aesthetics!
thanks so much! I'll look into the recapturing problem. much appreciated
This was fun. I really liked that little brother looks a bit old for his age. Neat concept for a collection of mini games.
thank you for playing the project :) the brother looks old because I ended up giving him my face :))
Oh this was very charming. This captured the exact vibe it was going for super well. The little brother looked kinda scary though haha
thanks so much for playing! the little brother actually has my face :D
